OBAMA WINS; AMERICAN PEOPLE LOSE

The consensus had been that the Supreme Court would overturn Obamacare. Upon the announcement that it was upholding the law, the stock market tanked. My biggest problem with Obamacare is that it was sold to the American people on the false pretense that it would reduce healthcare costs for the average person and would be deficit neutral.

The truth is that the provisions already implemented have made health premiums and copays go up dramatically, as covering kids until they are 26 years old costs money. There is absolutely no doubt that Obamacare will result in the National Debt going up by trillions of dollars. You cannot add 30 million people to the healthcare system and not drive the costs up. Doctors will be screwed as more government bureaucrats and IRS agents run the healthcare system. Care will be rationed. Only rich people will get excellent service. Why would any bright teenager decide to become a doctor?

Let’s hear your opinion. I’m especially interested in our doctor member opinions.

U.S. SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS CORE OF OBAMA HEALTH CARE

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Tyler Durdenon 06/28/2012 10:08 -0400

Here we go:

  • OBAMA’S HEALTH-CARE OVERHAUL UPHELD BY U.S. SUPREME COURT
  • 5-4 decisions, with Roberts joining the court’s liberals.
  • Court says federal government can’t threaten to withhold money from states that don’t fully comply on Medicaid extension
  • CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS SAYS MANDATE IS NOT A VALID EXERCISE OF CONGRESS’ POWER UNDER COMMERCE CLAUSE AND NECESSARY AND PROPER CLAUSE
  • HEALTH LAW’S MEDICAID EXPANSION LIMITED BY U.S. SUPREME COURT -RTRS
  • ROBERTS, JOINED BY TWO JUSTICES, SAYS MEDICAID EXPANSION VIOLATES CONSTITUTION -RTRS
  • FOUR JUSTICES DISSENT, SAYING THE PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT GOES BEYOND -RTRSCONGRESSIONAL POWERS UNDER CONSTITUTION -RTRS
  • ScotusBlog conclusion: So the mandate is constitutional
  • The bottom line: the entire ACA is upheld, with the exception that the federal government’s power to terminate states’ Medicaid funds is narrowly read
  • The ACA is upheld as a tax, not a penalty

The bottom line from the WSJ:

A quick overview of the ruling: A divided Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Obama administration’s health-care law, in one of the most anticipated high-court rulings in a generation. The court said Congress was acting within its powers under the Constitution when it required most Americans to carry health insurance or pay a penalty—the provision at the center of the two-year legal battle. It upheld the mandate as a tax, in an opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts.

The ruling is a victory for Democrats and President Barack Obama, who had passed the biggest reworking to the health system since the creation of Medicare in the 1960s and faced the prospect of the court nullifying their effort. It also averts disruption for hospitals, doctors and employers who have spent more than two years preparing for changes in the law.

Even as the law’s fate was in doubt, the administration moved ahead with implementing its provisions. It has been negotiating with states to set up exchanges where consumers can buy subsidized insurance policies and sign up millions of lower-income Americans for Medicaid. Some states, including Florida and Texas, refused to cooperate because they expected the law to be overturned.

For Mitt Romney, the high court\’s decision basically means he won\’t have to change his stump speech. Expected to speak later today, Mr. Romney is sure to promise to repeal the law if he\’s elected. It also means he\’ll face less pressure to offer specifics on what he\’d replace the law with — a positive for a campaign that tends to shy away from details.

And more from the WSJ’s Brent Kendall

More from inside the court, from our Brent Kendall, who will be going through the ruling line by line: The court’s ruling is largely a victory for the Obama administration.  The court’s 59-page opinion rejects the government’s primary argument that Congress’s power to regulate interstate commerce gives lawmakers the authority to require citizens to buy insurance or pay a penalty.  But the court goes on to uphold the insurance mandate on other grounds.  “It is reasonable to construe what Congress has done as increasing taxes on those who have a certain amount of income, but choose to go without health insurance,” Chief Justice Roberts writes.  “Such legislation is within Congress’s power to tax.”

Flash: Very observant and truthful post. I agree with what you said about the people and getting what they deserve. Right now they don’t feel the pain of losing the Republic like you and I. But they will… as sure as the sun comes up. I would like to share a quote from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s book, Crime and Punishment. ” If he has a conscience he will suffer for his mistake. That will be his punishment – as well as the prison.”

The American people are going to feel the pain of loss of their liberties and freedom just as sure as the animals we keep in our Zoo’s feel the pain of their captivity. The problem with the American people in general is they have shut down their conscience so they don’t have to consider the murder of the Republic that has been going on for some time now right in front of their noses. They have traded their liberties and responsibility to safeguard the Republic for a false sense of security sold them by our lying politicians. But a time is coming when they and their children & grandchildren will suffer greatly for this unholy folly of watching the destruction of this free Republic our ancestors shed blood to form. And the sad part is this was done consciously by so called educated people who should know better. There just isn’t enough of us around; flash, to stop it from happening. History will record this event but will not be able to explain why a free people would give up their freedom without a fight.

The Supreme Court no longer considers our constitution as the supreme law of the land. Four justices dissented and no one cares or cry wolf? The wrong is so blatant! But with no conscience as a guide the wrong is not seen. Knowledge means nothing with no understanding of the larger picture this knowledge applies to. Education in this society is a tool for automated responses to computer generated itinerary and software programs that do not accept individual creativity, but rather guides the user to respond to internal instructions, pre-packaged containing a secret agenda for the centralized control of people. We are nothing but human machines working for our masters. Student loans made this possible by funding the government controlled universities which in turn educated and indoctrinated the future drones to be used in the matrix of government & corporate positions to control the masses.

There is a war going on. It is an economic war involved with the destruction of the currency. It has been going on since 2008. It kind of reminds me of 1915 in Petersburg, Russia when people were waiting for WW1 to arrive. As the months, then weeks went by people started acting strange and do things totally out of normal. In a strange way it seems the same thing is going on here in America, and even Europe, where people are not acting right and talking in insane ways, doing stupid things. The inevitable crash is coming here; just like the inevitable war was coming to Petersburg, and it is reflecting in the peculiar behavior of many important people in the leadership positions in this country. It is like they know the end is near; yet they keep on acting and doing along the same path of destruction. How strange… It is like we are spinning in the vortex of the last water going down the drain and can do nothing except see where we get washed out at and in what condition. It is truly a remarkable time in America. Remember the term “United we Stand.” and how it felt good to think and embrace that statement as true? Now it is “Divided we Fall” and it does not feel good.

I think you are right; this last Supreme court ruling is the last nail in the coffin of our once great Republic; even for all it’s past flaws. I am a living witness to the end of our Republic. I could spit on justice Roberts; not because I hate him, no, because I pity him. He has knowledge but no conscience or understanding in the big picture of what he has done. Twist words to mean something they do not mean. Enjoy your “high” justice Roberts because when your conscience catches up with you it will be suffering for your folly. In this case the outcome should have been unanimous. This would have given credibility to the decision. But it couldn’t be unanimous because the intent was to twist the law by evil minded men. The ruling was political.

TeresaE says:
“The Supreme Court just ruled that CONgress/Pres can order us to BUY anything, or be penalized for not buying it.”

I take consolation in knowing that we can vote out fuckers #2/3 if they raise taxes. Neither the CONgress or Pres is appointed for life.

The death of our healthcare system:

They don’t realize that the undersupply of doctors and care providers is a direct consequence of previous government intervention and occupational licensing. Many actually believe that Obamacare wasn’t written by the insurance industry and isn’t a fascist-like appeasement of another deep pocketed lobbying campaign.

Common sense economics tells us that Obamacare will only lead to further inefficiencies and rationing as decisions of care continue to be made by third parties. Once fully enacted, doctor offices will likely start resembling that of the waiting area of your local Department of Motor Vehicles

In lieu of the upholding of the Affordable Care Act, it’s now worth asking what the U.S. government can’t do to Americans. As of right now, a sitting president can call for the indefinite detainment and execution of both citizens and non citizens alike with no due process. The band of thieves known as Congress can force the public to purchase a good or service and order its goons to read private communications without prior consent or knowledge. The dollar is constantly inflated to the benefit of major financial institutions, thus destroying the purchasing power of the money Americans are forced into using. The American people are no longer afforded their rights to their property, privacy, or own lives. Those discretions are currently in the hands of the various marionettes of Washington. Whether it is occupied by outright fascists or closet socialists, the state has no regard for liberty in its incremental quest for omnipotence.

The upholding of Obamacare is just more evidence of the totalitarian jackboot that continues to be pressed down upon on America’s collective throat. Instead of Congress or the President, it was the Supreme Court’s turn to pave the way toward serfdom. In a truly free society, all forms of violence would be condemnable and worthy of legal recourse. Men with badges and guns would receive no special treatment such as they do today. Thieves would be thieves. Murders would be murders. Counterfeiters would be counterfeiters. And mobsters would be mobsters. Titles such as “President,” “Congressman,” “police officer,” or “central banker” would mean nothing under a functioning system of proper law.

The Republicans are as much behind this healthcare passage as the Democrats are. Neither party works for the people anymore. We really have to rid ourselves of these two parties and the people who inhabit them. With so many old brain dead people and young uninformed people voting I don’t see the possibility of this happening. I just hope Ron Paul is on the ballot. I don’t think a vote for him would be a wasted vote. A vote for Obama or Romney would be a destructive vote against our liberties. But who am I to judge what the people want? If they want this healthcare and new social order let them vote it in. In my view it is a poison they will come to regret.

DaveL, I’m happy somebody can take solace in the fact that voting works.

See Carl Levin and Dingell as evidence that my state has not figured this out yet.

They promise free shit, that costs trillions, and the FSA/Unions go to the polls and re-elect their traitorous, thieving asses.

Ain’t NO way that “2/3’rds” will EVER be removed.

Ain’t NO way.

But, keep hoping and believing. Two things that are becoming rarer by the day in my world.
