WHY ARE GAS PRICES SOARING ON EAST COAST?

The price of gas at the station near my house has gone from $3.45 to $3.64 a gallon in the last 10 days. This is a 5.5% increase in less than two weeks. Gasoline usage in the U.S. has been plunging all year. The war rhetoric with Iran has been subdued. The economy is clearly in recession. WTF???

Oil prices and gas prices should be declining. But oil topped $89 per barrel this morning, back to the levels of late May, and $11 higher than 3 weeks ago. The three charts below paint an odd picture. East coast cities like Boston and Philly are experiencing a much larger surge than Chicago and LA. Of course, prices in Chicago and LA are still 6% to 8% higher than East Coast prices, likely due to taxes. I’m baffled by the relatively flat prices in Chicago and LA. Maybe someone out there has some insight.

The last chart shows the lag in prices rising for oil versus gasoline. Within the next month people on the East Coast will be paying $3.70 per gallon and the Midwest and West Coast will again push above $4.00 per gallon. This will be a further boost to food prices, as all those drought stricken crops need to be transported by truck to your local Piggly Wiggly.

With a full blown recession and surging food and energy costs, how Obama gets re-elected in November is beyond me. As he grows desperate, will he purposely generate either a war or social unrest in our cities? His only chance to retain power will be to distract the masses from their economic plight.

3.39 in flagstaff. Look back as this being the good times when thinking of gas prices. One ship killer torpedo from the iranians sinking a ship and were screwed.

Admin: east coast gas is tied to Brent, as our refineries get their input from abroad, the tankers come in from north sea, etc.. midwest is tied to WTI, down from canada, bakken, etc.. the spread between Brent and WTI has widened in recent weeks — this part i cannot explain, just report.

the refinery bidness is a bitch.

$3.34 in the valley east of Phoenix. Price speculation due to shortage of ethanol because of a shortage of corn? The new farm bill requiring an increase in ethanol content to 95% so that illegal Mexicans won’t be able to find any corn chips or tortilla flour here and they’ll all self-deport? Ben doesn’t care because food and energy are not part of inflation numbers so he can keep interest rates at -3%?. Corn is going to be used as the new reserve currency? Who knows. Maybe because I just bought a couple of hundred more shares of Canadian Oil and Gas stocks.

Most parts of Michigan haven’t seen $3.50 since sometime last year. The lowest I remember paying was about $3.39, and I can’t even remember how long ago that was.

In Michigan, we get to pay full boat sales tax (6%) on the federal excise tax and on the state excise tax.

We are one of only three states that pay excise tax on excise tax AND then pay sales tax on it to.

We do the same thing with our electricity and natural gas too.

It is GREAT to live in a union, corrupt Fortune 500, state. Just freaking peachy.

I said it five years ago, and I continue saying it, this ain’t shit and things have a lonnnnnnnng way to fall before we have any hope of getting better.

Except with gas, that has nowhere to go but up and up and up.

Anybody who lives on the East Coast deserves whatever they get.

Throughout the history of the U.S., anybody with any ambition moved West. People with no ambition stayed on the East Coast.

Let not your heart be troubled.

Gas prices are not included in the CPI so it doesn’t “count”.

At least in the insane world of libtard/progressive voodoo economics.

Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that most of the fed.gov employees live on the East Coast and will likely get some kind “gasoline allowance” by Obama signing an EO in a desparate attempt to buy more votes for November.

$3.43/gal for premium to fill up the beemer yesterday. Glad that sucker gets 26.4 mpg.

AWD may be right, surviving the coming disaster will be determined by location more than anything else.

To be truthful, the US coastal plains east of the Appalachian chain of mountains is the most dangerous area in America since that is where the overall concentrations of people are the highest and where the level of individual preparedness is the lowest. The areas west of this first chain of mountains will become the general destination of choice for people fleeing the East Coast. Because refugee flows will flow exclusively westward,

DUH, every single administration ever recorded manipulates the BLS and all the other stats to justify their existence.

That’s why you have to pay attention to what John Williams at Shadow Stats says.

That being said, it is Obama’s Administration that has claimed to be the most transparent, the smartest and messianic in history.

Interesting that gas prices in your area have climbed. Gas prices here in the central valley of California have been declining the past month or so.

What I have noticed though is that the gas prices at Chevron stations that historically have been well over 10 cents a gallon more than Arco or BP stations, now, are almost the same price. Certain Chevron stations in my area are only a few pennies more per gallon now than their competition. Why is that?
