A West Virginia teen arrested and accused of nearly inciting a riot after a confrontation with a teacher over his National Rifle Association t-shirt has inspired dozens of students across his county to wear similar apparel in solidarity.
Jared Marcum, 14, had a confrontation Thursday with a Logan Middle School teacher over his NRA t-shirt, which bears the organization’s logo, along with an image of a hunting rifle and the phrase, “Protect your right.”
Marcum’s lawyer, Ben White, said that when the teen was told to remove the shirt or turn it inside out, he attempted to engage the teacher in a debate.
“Jared respects firearms and has training to use them, and believes in the Second Amendment,” White told ABCNews.com. “He believes it’s being threatened by current legislation. He wore [the shirt] as an expression of political speech and the need to protect the Second Amendment.”
Marcum was eventually arrested and taken away by police after refusing to remove the shirt. White said that when police told the teen they were going to arrest him, he stuck his hands out and said, “Fine.”
White said that charges being filed against Marcum are pending the prosecutor’s office’s review of the evidence. But he insisted that it was the teacher who caused the issue by confronting the teen, and that video gathered from the school will prove it.
“I believe the teacher was acting beyond the scope of his employment,” he said. “What the video shows is that students did step up on the benches to the tables in the lunchroom when they were escorting Jared out of building. Kids jumped up, clapping. Teachers said to get off and be quiet, and they did.”
Logan County students wore NRA t-shirts today in solidarity with Marcum, White said, adding that Marcum is an honor roll student eyeing a career in the military. Zigmond did not mention any disciplinary action during school today.

Re the author, I have hunted a bit in my life. I have never seen anyone hunt with a rifle such as the one shown. It must happen, but I have never known it to. The author was being too politically correct. Call a spade a spade and call that thing an assault rifle (it is not that either, but it is what many in the public would call it). Let’s not get tricky. He was defending his right to free speech and the right to bear arms. Calling it a hunting rifle simply opens the article up to ridicule.

Marley Lion, a recent graduate of Academic Magnet High School, was shot inside his Nissan Pathfinder early Saturday morning in the parking lot by Famous Joe’s Bar and Grill at 1662 Savannah Highway, and around 4:05 a.m., police found him lying on the ground beside the vehicle. Lion was still alive at the time, and he told an officer he had been sleeping in the car because he was too intoxicated to drive home. He said two black males walked up to the vehicle and one of them shot him five times before they left the parking lot on a gravel path toward Yew Street.

Police charge man in death of Rebecca Neeley
Rebecca Neeley first met Aaron Jeans when she hired him, his mother and his grandfather to do a little work for her.
Police said Wednesday, Jeans strangled Neeley to death inside her home, then left her body lying on the bedroom floor for days while he drove her car and stole money from her bank account. Her nine greyhounds were left locked in the house with her body, with no food or water.
Jeans, 25, was arrested Tuesday and was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the slaying of Neeley, who was found June 18 in her home at 4583 Trout Valley in Hickory Hill. She had been dead for about five days, police believe.
Jeans, who has a lengthy arrest record for offenses in both Tennessee and Mississippi, is being held without bond

A Southeast Memphis man facing a death-penalty trial next month pleaded guilty Monday to raping and murdering a Hickory Hill woman in her home two years ago.
Aaron Jeans, 27, was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of Rebecca Neeley, a woman for whom he had done yard work. He also pleaded guilty to theft of property for taking her computer, a printer and other belongings.
He was caught on an ATM camera using the victim’s credit card to withdraw cash.
Neeley, 58, was found strangled on June 18, 2008, at her home in the 4500 block of Trout Valley.

llpoh-ARs are not your traditional hunting rifle, but believe it or not, they are becoming very popular in the field. Several manufacturers sell models like the one on the t-shirt, marketed specifically for varmint hunters. I’m a moderately old fuck, so I typically carry a bolt gun when hunting, but I see ARs in the field, even up here where 223 is considered pretty wimpy. As an aside, most of the guys I shoot Highpower with use ARs.

Hollowman, your point about shot placement is good. But when it comes to big bear, if you don’t have a certain level of hardware, you can’t get it where you need it regardless of how well placed the shot. Bear skulls are tough. I have a buddy who (a long time ago) killed a several hundred pound sheep with one shot from a pellet gun. But it took some time for it to realize it was dead. if it was a carnivore I am sure he would not have taken that shot.
Any rife is a hunting rifle. Some may be better for hunting game and some may be better for exterminating enemies. The problem is not the design, the most practical use, or the look of a rifle but that our enemies are telling us what a hunting rife is and what a hunting rifle is not when hunting is not even the point.

The whole gun debate, definitions and classifications is bullshit. The constitution says we can have “Firearms” and firearms means every kind of rifle of every caliber of every design all the way up to heavy artillery and cannon armed ships. If we want them and can afford them we can have them no restrictions. It meant that back then and it still means that right now.
Since our Government has determined that the only “firearms” we can have and responsibly own are pistols and rifles with certain design limitations our rights have already been trampled into the dirt.

1) the 2nd A isn’t about hunting (belief that it is must require some serious stupidity).
2) AR15 rifles come in many different calibers, including 458 SOCOM which would be potentially appropriate for use on bears, even the big ones.
The 2nd A applies to hunting muskets like the 1st A only applies to 18th century newspaper presses.

Let me explain this shit again. The fucking author called that AR a hunting rifle. Ninety five percent of folks will look at that gun and call it an assault rifle. Some of those will then conclude the author is lying.
As to the AR being a hunting rifle, sure you can hunt with it. You can hunt with a fucking slingshot but that does not make it a hunting rifle.
As to hunting grizzly, I have not done that. But I have hunted big bear and pigs. Pigs are mean and dangerous, but no where near as scary as a bear.
A fucking grizzly is ten feet tall and is full of teeth and claws. An idiot would use the standard AR 223 on a griz. The fucking griz would be walking around like Davy Crockett, but instead of coon skin he would be wearing an ass skin hat.
Re griz, I expect you need around a 375 at least. I would not go near the fucker with a 308. Re the AR – it has a shortish barrel, which means low velocity. For a griz you need a big hole and penetration, which means you ned velocity as well. I suspect the hog hammer 458 would lack the go to be real effective on a griz, but I may be wrong. But I doubt AK is.

AWD – it is scarier in deep brush, but the point is taken.
Fact-a human can’t outrun a bear. Better off standing your ground and doing your best. In AK, there is lots of debate about what gun to carry in bear country-High power rifle, shotgun w/ slugs, buckshot or birdbangers? Is a 44 enough? 357? Lots of bears have been killed with less-but that doesn’t make it a good choice. In my opinion and experience, the best gun to carry is the one in your hands.
I’ve done plenty of field work with a long gun-the first thing you do when you start working is set it down. Before long it is yards away-too far if you really need it. I always carry a handgun (usually a magnum) in the field. I’d rather go down shooting, even with only a 22, with my arm down the fucker’s throat if need be, than be looking wistfully (while becoming lunch) at my “ideal bear gun” 20 yards away. That said, if I reasonably expect bear, I have a serious long gun too.
I’d feel the same in “reparations protest country” as well. But it would probably be illegal there.

Chicago – you would love me. Even my hair has hair. I gotta comb my goddam back to keep it from ending up in dreadlocks. If I wear shorts I get comments about my neat woollen leg warmers. And ear hair – if I ever go bald I can just comb over those suckers.
