Calamity

I clicked on your link and read your “How To Get Crappy Service” article. Informative, and I agree completely. I’m a low-maintenance diner-out. You may not like my opinions, but you’d appreciate my tips. Keep on blogging.

SSS- Thanks. I forgot that I wrote that. It was a request from my co-workers to write a server article.

Recently initiated, undirected ramblings, and skeptical observations by an old man on the tenuous condition of a country and world that grows increasingly unfamiliar and frightening (and I actually recall the drills requiring us to “hide” beneath our desks because “the Russians were coming.”)

I’m meeting my IT buddy for lunch on Monday. I need his advice on how to make the site run properly. I pay $25 per month for a shared server. I can get a dedicated server for $150 per month. I don’t want to make the investment unless I’m sure it will solve the problems. It could be wordpress and a server upgrade would be meaningless.

I have problems with wordpress when I am submitting posts on TBP. Several times what I see it the preview is different from what gets published.

Thanks for the invite to toot off. I rarely post on my blog, maybe once a month, ’cause there is little new to say the way I see things. Just wait for the wheels to fall off. Busy ramping up a new biz too (IT/network security for health care and hospitals).

I read TBP, but haven’t had much to say here either. I’ve had to avoid the Zimmerman-related flinging up in here, cuz otherwise I would hurt some fools. A lot of race-based idiocy on that thread, and I’m just trying to ignore the whole thing (there ain’t gonna be no damn riots). But I’ll be damned if I am gonna spout off on this stupid trial spectacle on my blog. (For the record, not guilty–duh. Only two people know for sure, and one of ’em is dead, the other guy showing signs of a struggle. They’re still deliberating this shit–must be for an extra free meal.)

I appreciate being on your list of links, and if anyone stops by, fling some on my blogwalls. Some of the stuff in the archives is ok. Maybe I’ll write some new stuff.

I read TBP for years as well as LRC and EP Autos and would send interesting articles with my own comments to friends and family. after a while my best friend offered to build me a site so I could do it myself, we did and it’s been about a year.

The Strangest Brew is my site. I’ll post on any subject matter,health/fitness (more recently), MR2’s but typically focus on freedom, firearms and bashing the “owners” (feddies, banksters, politicians) and their enforcers (pigfucks). I try to write something original atleast once a month and much thanks to admin for allowing me to crosspost my stuff so more than 50 people a day would see it.

@ Dr. Stefanelli

Kudos. A story of courage and love on your part. I went to your website and read what I could about your mother who drank and smoked too much for her entire life. And your offering of part of your liver to help “save her” from a diagnosis of TERMINAL liver disease at age 72.

There are two compelling views for what you did.

#1. You are a kind, caring, and compassionate human being.

#2. What the hell were you thinking?

I don’t have a blog or a webpage.

Nor have I authored a book, created any music or made a single youtube video.

However, I do take fish oil supplements!

I don’t do shit either, except take (cheap) fish oil and post an inane comment once in a while. But I do want to say thank you to those making the effort to educate folks-HarryP, Howard, Calamity (sorry for the others I miss, it’s getting late) and especially Admin. Don’t ever feel like what you do is not appreciated. You are providing a valuable service. Thank you.

I’ve been involved in online communities since not quite the BB days of dial-up. Usenet was my start, then the comments sections of local media sites, now mostly here and some special interest forums.

I use Blogger to keep track of my comments, again mostly here, but there is one post of particular interest which it took a little to actually find, which was the whole point of keeping a blog anyway, to maintain a record of my insanity.

http://politicandecon.blogspot.com/2011/11/if-technology-is-one-thing-most-likely.html

Just making a point, the date of this post is November 7, 2011

“If technology is the one thing most likely to change or improve on the near horizon, then it will be in the storage and processing of vast amounts of data. What is critical, as in all things, is how will that technology will be used, for good or evil, for the liberation and betterment of all men, or a tool for dominion over him.”

Of course, this was also after we knew NSA was building the Death Star, so it’s not exactly prophecy, just prophetic. I think we also now know, or knew, the answer.

Admin, I’m meeting someone for lunch today to show them some basic skills using WordPress. I’ve never used it, however, I get paid to code, so I should be able to provide some direction to my new aquaintance.

On the topic of servers, no doubt a dedicated server would handle your traffic, up to a point, then you have to consider other things like load balancing, which means multiple dedicated servers.

WordPress may not be the best platform, either. I remember to pains of moving to it, but it’s been great ever since. I only noticed a few Server Busy responses last week, and they were at odd times, so it may be your shared server isn’t up to the task, through no fault of your own. Again, WordPress may be a little high on the system requirements side of the equation.

Here’s an article I found, but a quick search and scan suggests your going to have to go dedicated, or at least split, i.e. less shared, then load balancing, etc. That’s my two cents, and I’ll click on the donate button, too. Freedom isn’t free, good luck!

I started a blog few months ago mostly to share a few notes I write about books I read. Some of the books on my reading list are also recommended reading around here it seems. My notes are usually short but sometime I may put them together into a more substantial work.
