I don’t typically post material that shits on my own age group. However, it seems like a new characteristic is become prevailing opinion of the older Millennials and Younger Gen Xers. This cusp of the generation is starting to become the “Peter Pan Generation” as I am deeming it. I know the economy is shitty and it is getting harder to make a buck. That should NOT give my age group the excuse to put off adulthood.
A message to Boomers and Gen Xers with adult children. Force them to work. This irritates me to no end about my own age group. Why is the older generation letting their adult children live at home and make no contribution to their household? Your college graduate cannot find a job in their own field? They cannot afford rent on their own? That is difficult, but it should not be a free pass. I am saying it now, my generation needs a kick in the pants.
I feel old just saying that, but here is what it comes down to, work gives you life skills. If your kid does get a job interview how are they going to explain what they have been doing since graduation? Sitting on the couch watch Breaking Bad while sending their resumes around? Reading Reddit online conspiracies that “prove” the powers that be are sabotaging them? Finding every excuse to not take that part time Burger King job down the street?
On another note, if they cannot find a job put them to work! I have seen so many self entitled Millennials recently. Their parents are still giving them an allowance well into adulthood just for existing. If you are still putting a room over your adult child’s head make them work for it. You want a garden to cut down on your food bill? Buy a tiller and some seeds and send their ass to work. Have them paint your house. Have them clean the garage. Go “Gran Torino” on their ass and teach them some integrity. Because life is not fair.
