PUT THE LIME IN THE COCONUT

Disclaimer (for AWD): 1) this is not a “cure-all”. 2) I’ve been using Coconut Oil (CO) for several years now. It is the ONLY oil I use for frying. The only other oil I use is Olive Oil.

Lew Rockwell had this article today. It is heavily redacted / altered for brevity and additional data. Vegetable oils and most other oils clog arteries and do other damage. Coconuts are a superfood. Stay healty, my friends.

1. CO is THE BEST / SAFEST oil of all —–  Coconut oil IS BETTER THAN OTHER VEGETABLE OILS. Those oils contain polyunsaturated fatty acids, which aren’t good for the cardiovascular system. Many nutritional experts recommend switching to coconut oil to avoid the health risks. Studies in humans show that coconut oil improves important risk factors like Total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, which may translate to a reduced risk of heart disease.

2. Useful Against Harmful Organisms —–  One of the most astounding facts about coconut oil is how potent it is against harmful organisms. Almost 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil is the 12-carbon Lauric Acid. When coconut oil is enzymatically digested, it also forms a monoglyceride called monolaurin. Both lauric acid and monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi. A 2007 study found that CO was 100% effective against candida.

3. Coconut Oil is Great for Hair and Skin —– With its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, coconut oil can effectively penetrate the hair shaft to reduce protein loss, leaving it nourished and healthy. Coconut oil is also very moisturizing and beneficial for the skin. The reason? It’s chemical structure. The short-chain and saturated fatty acids, which prevent it from oxidizing and becoming rancid, are nourishing to the skin and have even been found to encourage wound healing.

4. Massage Oil for Newborns —– Giving oil massages to newborns has been found to improve thermoregulation and encourage healthy weight gain. A 2005 study evaluated the effect of coconut oil on the growth of newborns in India. Starting on the second day of their lives, an oil massage was given four times a day until the baby was discharged, and then by the mother until the baby was 31 days old. The results? Coconut oil massage significantly increased weight gain and growth.

5. Food tastes better —– CO does not leave an oily heavy taste in your mouth. CO is flavorless, Foods fried or sautéed in CO are crunchier, crispier, less soggy, look better, and taste FAR better than ANY competing oil.

6. Coconut Oil Can Increase Your Energy Expenditure, Helping You Burn More Fat. —– The medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil have been shown to increase 24 hour energy expenditure by as much as 5%, potentially leading to significant weight loss over the long term. The fatty acids in coconut oil can significantly reduce appetite, which may positively affect body weight over the long term.

7. Stick a lime in it …. Your liver will LOVE you —– Lemons and limes … especially the peels … are nature’s Superfood in terms of detoxifying your liver. Study after study shows that more enzymes are produced by the liver when processing lemon water than ANY other substance.

I’m going to buy a case of that shit and mix it with my magnesium oil and rub it all over my body.

Avalon swears by it. She says it helps your metabolism which causes weight loss.

Yep, same here. Also I eat no sugar at all. Absolutely nothing that has any sugar in it. I eat no processed or packaged foods.(oh wait is bottled water a packaged food?) My weight is right where it needs to be.

Love me the coconut oil.

Use it in my hair, in place of lotion, in place of butter/Crisco in recipes, to massage my wee ones, for “personal” lubrication, plus many, many other things.

Latest is I’m “pulling” oil for my oral health. I just swish a bunch around in my mouth for a couple minutes a couple times a day. Because I already brush primarily with baking soda and peroxide, I’m not noticing huge gum improvements but others are.

Funny Admin, I DO mix it with mag oil and rub it all over my body. If you can get someone else to do it for you – or be nice and do it for Avalon first! – you would LOVE it.

Starts off solid, melts with body heat, is very lubricating and then absorbs to a non-greasy skin feel.

Plus, you get to say F* You to the giants like Kimberly-Clark, J&J,P&G, and others.

Try it, y’all will like it.

Here we go again…………………………………………………………

When I lived in Hawaii, they used to sell 100% coconut oil in bottles to be used at the beach. I used to love eating raw coconut. It’s good stuff, although I question all the supposed beneficial effects. I use skin cream every day with coconut oil in it. Way ahead of you on this one Stuck.

Another miracle drug. Cures everything except loneliness……

Good post Stucky, we discovered coconut oil about 8 months ago and wish we had figured it out decades ago, better late than never I guess. Our food does taste better and the health benefits are all a bonus. Maybe it will help keep us healthy enough that we won’t need the stupid Obamacare for any health issues.

For the preppers in the room, coconut oil has a very long shelf life. You can eat it as well as use it in making homemade soaps/lotions etc.

You can buy it by the gallon on the web, try bulkapothecary.com if you can’t find it locally. That web site also has a lot of other great stuff.

(My new projects are making my own essential oils with a distilling device as well as my own soaps and lotions, love that DIY stuff.)

Coconut is truly one of Mother Nature’s better inventions.

just before this shutdown, nasa had implemented a program called ‘I talk to strangers’, I never got the details but I suppose it would be a p.r. project or simply an effort to get people talking.

I was at the walmart a few weeks ago paying for my ration of diet cokes. the cashier suggested they were not good for me. she suggested I try coconut oil instead. I assured her I would look into it, I never followed up on it though I did see a jar of it, looked like a thin sort of lard.

now stucky post this and totally shows my walmart nutritionist cashier to be on the money. nasa should promote a new program called ‘I listen to strangers’.

Oops, bad wording!

When I mentioned my “wee ones,” I was speaking of my daughter, granddaughter and niece(s).

And the American Puritan Ethic wins again.

No wonder we can’t fix this country, we can’t have adult discussions about anything without the prudes getting their panties in a bunch…lol

Mmmmm….I do love the stuff and I eat it right off the spoon, I’m weird lol.. I have thyroid problems and I do think it helps rev up my metabolism, but I don’t know if it would make a difference in people who have healthy thyroids. Tastes good though. Thanks for the post Stuck.

Coconut oil is an excellent supplement. 2 tablespoons per day is what is recommended. I bought some last Friday. This large jar of organic CO is discounted right now at vitacost.

No problems with your advocacy of coconut oil, Stucky. None. Nor with olive oil, which my wife and I use with about 80-90% or more of the dishes we prepare. We dropped most standard vegetable oils decades ago.

But if you’re in to cooking certain Asian and American dishes, you MUST use peanut oil. No substitutes, big guy. MUST. And don’t forget sesame oil. Another MUST for some recipes.

Now, what were you saying about “only”?

MuckAbout

@TE: juan was not talking about your wee ones, dear.

I hope your hub likes coconut!! Adult conversation indeed.. Re-read your post(again)..

Check out the Weston Price Foundation: westonaprice.org.

They’re the premier group preaching about nutrient-dense foods. If you know about raw milk, pastured/grass-finished meats, animal fats, fermented foods, it’s probably because of them and the people who borrow their work, call their own, and charge you for it. All the info. is available free on their website. They’ve been big proponents of coconut oil.

Changed my health big time.
