Today is the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination. I remember it well. I shit my pants when it happened. That was because I was six months old. I do remember pointing out to my parents that there seemed to be someone shooting from the grassy knoll, but they just ignored my gibberish.
I became fascinated by the assassination when I was a teenager and read some books and saw various documentaries. I also listened to the tape from the open microphone of one of the police motorcycles. I heard many more shots than were described in the Warren Commission Report. I have since visited Dallas, been in the Book Depository Building at the window where Oswald fired the shots, stood on the grassy knoll, and assessed for myself whether he acted alone. Based on the facts and percentages of hitting someone twice at that distance in a moving vehicle, I always believed there was a second shooter.
And, of course, the Seinfeld Magic Lugi episode clarified the issue.
So that brings us to our multi- question 50th anniversary poll.

I’m not sure what to believe about the JFK assignation. I do feel that he was the last real president of the USA. If you could draw a line to mark where USA began the long morph into the USSA one of the most probable places to put it would be between the presidency’s of JFK and LBJ.
Who would benefit by the removal of JFK? The list would have been very long. Who would benefit from the installation of LBJ? That list would also have been very long. Many of the beneficiaries may have hated JFK but most probably never entertained the actual murder of anyone. Never the less the course of this nation might have been very different if JFK had lived. A highly probable turning point in our republic’s history. Things might not necessarily have been better ……..but could have been different especially if the Fed was dismantled or a powerful movement to remove it was formed.
One thing I am sure of is that there is a good chance that the official story is bullshit. The Government rarely seems to tell the truth and when they do it is almost certain not be the whole truth, even if for the benign reason that the whole truth in all it’s detail would bore the shit out of every one.
I believe that Oswald was hired to kill him, and that the Cuban exile community in Miami had a major hand in it.
Up until the 90s, JFK was the 2nd most-hated man in Miami, topped only by Fidel Castro. The reason for the animosity of the Cuban community was that Kennedy and his team quite deliberately and cynically reneged on their stated promise to liberate Cuba from Castro, a promise that Kennedy never had the first intention of keeping, and that it would not have served the interests of the US to follow through on… and that should never have been made.

Currently, I’m trying to push a little South American contract Mauser 98 short rifle as far as I can. Bedding the action, floating the barrel. Found a set of German high mount scope rings and mounts correct for the rifle. Fitted an old steel tube El Paso Weaver K10 to it and I’m experimenting with different brass/primer/powder/projectile combinations to see what yields the best accuracy. I might rebarrel it. I might not. Depends on how much effort I want to put into it.
Tell you what, hotshot. You want talk shit rights? Then do what we did- Measure off 500 yards. Take a 2×2 about 3 feet long and hammer it into the ground. Then take one standard issue chicken egg and set it on top. Go back to the firing line and start shooting- tell me how many shots it took for you to hit that egg.

the only bolt action rifle from WW2, that I think about, that could MAYBE allow to place 2 shots, not 3, in this time lap is the Swiss K31 with the regular military scope. no need to say that you have to be a darn good shooter even with the best rifle of that category.

The Swiss K31 is an outstanding rifle and I tend to agree with you. For a battle rifle, it is extremely accurate and does have a fast followup shot.
Some boltguns are faster than others. Fastest boltgun I ever shot was the Steyr SSG 69.
The Carcano, in addition to being a piece of monkey shit, doesn’t even have the bolt handle over the trigger, which means you have to move your hand farther just to reach the bolt (unlike better-designed rifles), which increases your followup time… don’t even get me started on the quality of Italian WWII surplus ammunition…
