9-Year-Old Suspended For Saying ‘Merry Christmas’ To Teacher
San Francisco, CA — The ‘war on Christmas’ continues as a simple well-wishing of ‘Merry Christmas’ has led to big trouble for one fourth-grade San Francisco boy this week.
Timothy Dawson, a 9-year-old student at Argon Elementary School in San Francisco, CA., was in the school cafeteria Monday eating with friends when he was taken to the principal’s office and given a week-long suspension. His punishment was consequence for saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to his homeroom teacher earlier that morning.
Dawson’s teacher, 35-year-old Paul Horner who is an outspoken Atheist, was offended at the students display of Christmas spirit and had staff suspend the young boy for the rest of the week.
“I say ‘Merry Christmas’ to everyone,” the boy told CNN. “I didn’t think it would cause so much trouble just for saying a couple little words.”
The boy’s mother, Laura Dawson, 41, was fuming over the issue.
“You don’t traumatize a child who loves to go to school, who wanted to be early every day to school, you don’t make him cry, just for wishing someone Merry Christmas,” she told reporters, holding back tears. “You just don’t do it.”
Reporters spoke with Mr. Horner as he was leaving from school on Tuesday. “I warned the children not to bring religion into my classroom,” Horner said. “Maybe he’ll [Tim] listen to adults next time.”
Argon Elementary School officials declined to comment.
We have located the email address for the Atheist teacher in the story, Paul Horner. I think he deserves a nice well-wishing of Merry Christmas!

War on Christmas
Once again this holiday season, the right to celebrate Christmas is under attack. it’s happening in your community.

ESPN dives headfirst into the War on Christmas
Our culture sucks.
Horner doesn’t strike me as a Jewish name and although many Jews are athiests, many athiests are not Jews. I don’t see anything about this story that links it to a Jewish attack on Christmas. It is true though that I get sick and tired of having Hannakah shoved down our throats every year. Jews are what, 2% of the population of this country? It wouldn’t surprise me if 2% of this country are Buddhists, yet you don’t see any mention of their ritualistic shit.
I live close to a Florist enterprise that sells Christmas trees and am friendly with the owner.
He has to call them holiday trees now, and tells me that if someone says Christmas tree or Christmas wreath some of the customers turn and stare. He say’s they are mostly snooty bitches with expensive SUV type cars that do the gawking. Friggin Outrageous.
This occurred in San Francisco. Is anyone truly surprised?
Atheists really can be assholes.
Z
I put the “Jewish Extremist” picture up as a curve ball, to provoke thought.
But where do most of the liberal progressive ideas come from? Who plants the seeds? Who hates white people and white culture? Who runs the MSM? Who are 90% of lawyers who attack Christmas, white males, non-Jewish religion? Who are the lawyers that have wiped out men’s rights? Who are the fraudsters, banksters, Wall Street sleeze that siphon off the wealth? Who runs and owns the Federal Reserve?
Jews are almost 100% liberals, and support and program the liberal progressives, from agenda to cash in their re-election coffers. People just accept this outrage, but what will come next? Our entire way of life is under attack, for no better reason than the liberal progressive agenda that seeks to wipe our everything of value. Something has to be done about it.
AWD, fine. The problem with your approach is that it can easily be twisted into charges of “anti-semitism.” Then you are marginalized as a racist, a hater and maybe even a nazi. I prefer to leave Jew out of it and simply focus on Israel. Israel is simply a state…a government. One can hate a government without hating it’s people. We do it all the time.
Zarathustra calling me an anti-Semite, now I’ve seen everything.
Director John Waters says he’s a soldier against the war on Christmas
Jeremy D. Goodwin, Globe Correspondent
You might expect a satirical take-down of the Yuletide season from the man once dubbed the “pope of trash” by no less an expert on such matters than William S. Burroughs. But John Waters is not Scrooge. In fact, he’s resolutely pro-Christmas, albeit in devotion to a somewhat slanted view of the holiday. In his one-man show, “A John Waters Christmas,” which is at Berklee Performance Center Sunday, the filmmaker, author, and miner of artful bad taste shares his views on Christmas — and anything else that comes to mind — with the rapid-fire cadence of a stand-up comedian. We reached Waters by phone.
Q. Do you celebrate Christmas?
A. I do my Christmas tour so I’m always working at Christmas. I’m like an elf, or David Sedaris, who always has to read the same story [“SantaLand Diaries”] he wrote. I love celebrating it. At the same time, I see the extremes of it. You can’t ignore it. It’s coming at you like a steamroller. You have to know the rules and you have to love it to understand why people hate it, and to have fun breaking all those rules. I send Christmas cards but they’re quite hideous. My card this year shows me holding the baby Jesus.
Q. What kind of presence has Christmas taken on in American culture?
A. It’s a capitalist tradition. Many stores would never be able to survive without Christmas. So I’m very for it. I understand the war against Christmas, and I’m a soldier against that war. I’m a soldier for the love of Christmas. I love Christmas carols. Why didn’t GG Allin do a Christmas album? I always want the weirdest stars to do Christmas albums. I’m very big on obscure country-western and novelty Christmas songs. I’m a huge fan of the Chipmunks. I play [“Christmas With The Chipmunks”] over and over again until all the people who work for me want to run from the office screaming.
Since when did uttering pleasant good-tidings become a punishable crime?
In what type of “good place to live” is such thinking encouraged?
The saddest part is that this kid’s parents will not sit down and re-assess their lifestyle and come up with a plan to get their child away from those deep-thinkers.
Wonder how many people sit and eat a plate of shit everyday, thinking to themselves that they “have no choice,” “would ruin my credit,” or “don’t want to give up what I’ve worked for?”
Wonder how many are going to feel like the worlds’ biggest idiots when all those things still happen, yet they sat back and allowed their child to be molded like this?
All I know is that the odds are likely that in my lifetime many, many, people are going to be waking up and realizing all the shit they ate to hold onto things they thought they deserved was for naught.
You can’t explain it to them though, at least that is my current experience, they are just not open to the horror headed their way nor the things they could do today to make life better.
Ah well, human nature and future FEMA camp residents.
I consider myself a spiritual, not a religious, person. That said, if someone wished me a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Joyous Festival of Lights or anything else I think it’s just common courtesy to respond in kind. WTF.
Jesus is coming back some day, and he’s gonna be pissed
?w=535
Christmas has become a garish empty exercise in excess all over the world. Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus have all but disappeared in an onslaught of shiny stupid junk. I’m beginning to dislike the whole affair, even though I get caught up in the nonsense as much as anybody.
I wish the blessed atheists would get their way and Christmas would be banned from public expression altogether. Rescind the federal holiday, because it is based on only one religion. Then Christmas would be forced back into the church, into a spiritual celebration, where it belongs.
“if the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you”. -Jesus
May fools who come up with this inane crap have to explain why in a court of those who already know.
fucking maroons- what else needs to be said
Zarathustra says:
“The problem with your approach is that it can easily be twisted into charges of “anti-semitism.” Then you are marginalized as a racist, a hater and maybe even a nazi.”
That is the same lesson I-S and LLPOH were trying to impress on Billy.

I nominate 35-year-old Paul Horner at Argon Elementary School in San Francisco, CA to be 2013’s Cockbite of the Year..
I can be a real asshole, but I would never do this to a little kid…
That teacher is a total dick sucker.
Brother Nathaneal knows what’s going on. Great video.
It’s open season on Christians. Everybody is empowered. In the old day atheists would keep their yaps shut, you remember, back when we had “common culture”. Now they can get away with shaming a kid for being nice. They can get away with anything, at least for now. The list of piano-wire candidates gets bigger every day.
Imagine what would have happened if the 6 year old kid that kissed his girlfriend’s hand had said “Merry Christmas” when he did it.
Brother Nathaniel can get away with what he says because his is a Jewish convert to Orthodox Christianity. The rest of us would be paddling with David Duke up Shit Creek.
@ reply Gayle
What a wonderful thoughtful Christmas posting. Thanks Gayle
I would just say to my son: “sometimes, you have to take harm to defend what you really value. Jesus offered his live. You, just a week of extra vacations. Lets pray to have the Lord have mercy of that teacher. I am proud of you”
Now, going to what is wrong in everywhere in the western world (I don’t live in the US but is the same), The right to not being offended has been elevated to a “civil right” status. Previously (before 1980s), if there was no physical harm, you had tu suck it up and get over it. Free speech was far superior to “right not to be offended”.
Going to this particular case: You are a f**** pussy if you cannot stand the offense of a “Merry Christmas and need to punish a 6th year grader for that offense.
You guys know that this is like The Onion, right? There’s no real Paul Horner.
Just checking.
The Doc said he was throwing you a curve ball.
I just know I’m going to get a thumbs down for who knows what reason.
The child has learned some very important lessons out of this –
1. Do NOT trust your “Teachers” to look after YOUR interests,
2. Your “Teacher” obviously thinks that know what’s best. What they think, and what is actually best FOR YOU are usually completely different things.
3. If you have any common sense at all – scrap any ideas of Teaching as a “Profession”, unless there is a very significant (National Riot scale) social realignment prior to you having to commit to your employment choice(s).
Apart from this it is just very bad manners to behave like this. People have the RIGHT to believe (or not believe) in the Deity(ies) of their choice, and that is an entirely personal choice. I’m certainly not a practicing Christian, but I’m very happy to go along with the needs of ANY religion (I particularly like Diwali – excellent food!).
NOT good: The Teacher should be suspended (and “Re-educated”) as to his responsibilities to ALL the children under his supervision.
Nick A should learn a very important lesson from this —
1. Everything you read on the internet is not necessarily true.
Zara, you’re as bad as an athiest with your hatred of christianity and judaism.
Islam, now there’s a religion of tolerance. Fuck you!
Christmas sucks! It’s essentially a pagan celebration of the winter solstice brought about by the Romans in the 3rd century at the Council of Nicea as a compromise between christianity and paganism to establish a state religion. It’s where we get the doctrine of the trinity, christmas, the celebration of the winter solstice, and easter, spring fertility rites.
Jesus was born Sept 11, 3 BC, we know this from the astronomical conjuction of the five visible planets in that year, the sign which the wise men of Egypt saw two years before they arrived in Jerusalem. This is the time of year shepherds would have been in their fields tending flocks, not Decemember.
September 11, quite a coincidence, eh? Given that the end of the year is a time of family get togethers for many, the ministry I’ve supported for over 20 years which was founded in the 1960’s by a wonderful man of god, simply uses the phrase Happy Holidays, which conveys the same meaning without the pagan observance.
Do my kids still get gifts, yes, and we still decorate. I’m not an asshole, well, anyway, and I’m thankful the kids are old enough not to believe in fairy tales like Satan Claus and the easter bunny. Bunnies don’t lay eggs. We talk about what God says in his word in our household, the truth. Not a bunch of made up bullshit from mainstream religion and perpetuated by the media.
It’s a bit ironic that this athiest hates a pagan holiday. Besides that, the first amendment is not a freedom from religion amendment, it’s freedom of religion.
This Spring we’ll talk more about what day was Jesus Christ crucified on the cross. It wasn’t good Friday.
Da Joos are always waging a war against something. If’n it ain’t personal freedom , it’s Christmas and if it ain’t Xmas din its war agin Freemarket capitalism …see the Joo stocked Federal Reserve and global bankster system fer reference …not to mention da Joos’ alliance with US Congress and their mutually beneficial war against common sense.
Da po’ man just can’t win wid in no war agin da’ Joos
Yet Jewish participation in American slave economies was not out of character. There was much money to be made off of slavery in the New World, and ethnic Jewish businessmen (whether religious, covert, or irreligious but endogamous) had played an important commercial role for centuries, especially in establishing Brazil‘s slave-powered sugar industry. Paul Johnson wrote in A History of the Jews:
Jews and marranos were particularly active in settling Brazil; the first governor-general, Thomas de Souza, sent out in 1549, was certainly of Jewish origin. They owned most of the sugar plantations.
Far more than cotton, much less tobacco, sugar was the great killer of slaves. (Recall Jim’s fear in Huckleberry Finn of being sold down the river to Louisiana.) With the sugar industry’s constant demand for new slaves to replace those worked to death, it was the main driver of the transatlantic slave trade.
Thanks Flash – I didn’t know that. I second Billy’s nomination of Horner as “Asshole of the Year”. Hopefully – at some point while he’s out and about during his “Christmas Vacation” someone will recognize him and beat the shit out of him – just on general principles. BC-LR to all
Nonanonymous, Fuck you in return! I despise religious whack jobs of any variety. As for Jews, here is what the founder of your particular strain of bullshit said:
“Therefore be on your guard against the Jews, knowing that wherever they have their synagogues, nothing is found but a den of devils in which sheer selfglory, conceit, lies, blasphemy, and defaming of God and men are practiced most maliciously and veheming his eyes on them.” – Martin Luther
Zara, I should have refrained from the f**k you, my apology.
Islam, now there’s a religion of tolerance!
Regarding Luther, Jesus said the same thing about the leaders of the synagogue in his day.
“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44, ESV)
There’s no reason to believe things are any different today in the Christian church, especially the mainstream denominations.
However, it’s quite hypocritical of you to attack the church, by attacking Luther, who may or may not have been correct in his observation, when you despise Luther anyway.
My previously stated motto in online discussions is this, “Athiests, trinitarians, and sodomites; pass the ammunition”. I will gladly add a fourth group, Islamists, if you persist in your silly and pathetic denigration of Christianity through absolutely valueless arguments. I’m willing to concede it is a minority of Muslims who are the extremists, while it is the exception among the former.
I’m also willing to cut you some slack because I understand Jews are a particular emotional issue for you, for whatever reason. However, I’m not going to put up with being called a religious whack job by you, pkb.
You do realize this never happened? This story was from a satirical news site and a complete hoax – http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2013/12/18/hoax-about-atheist-teacher-suspending-student-who-said-merry-christmas-goes-viral/
