The Mafia State Of Mind

Once the mafia state of mind has seeped into every nook and cranny of the society and economy, it’s not even recognized as corruption: it’s simply the way the system works.

We recently spent a few days with a friend who was born and raised in Sicily who now lives elsewhere in Europe with his wife (also Italian, from Naples). Though we talked of many things, one of his comments struck me like a bolt of lightning.

The Mafia isn’t about shoot-outs, he said; the mafia is a state of mind.

He then pointed to a city trash collection truck driving by. Those guys are mafia.

I should stipulate that our friends are left-liberal in their views, and deeply concerned about the direction of free enterprise, democracy and social equality in Europe. He did not make these comments as a joke but with the utmost seriousness.

Why are the union sanitation workers a mafia? Because they have the leverage (via strikes) to extract and extort what they want from a populace who earns less than they do in wages, benefits and salaries–a population with no other choice. Is there some other option to giving the striking municipal workers what they demand? Is there another choice to clear the streets of garbage? Is there another train system to get to work when the train operators are on strike? No.

The mafia state of mind is all about establishing a monopoly that leaves the populace no other choice, and that creates sufficient leverage to enable systemic extortion. In the mafia state of mind, the government is a partner in the racket. When thugs arrive in a peasant village in China to drive the residents off their land so a corrupt developer can build hundreds of highrise flats, where are the corrupt officials of the government? In line to collect their “fees”, which will fund their purchase of homes in Vancouver, B.C. or Sydney, Australia.

Where were the government officials when BART employees held the San Francisco Bay Area hostage? Quietly collecting their usual bribes (politely called “contributions”) from the union mafia.

The mafia state of mind is all about extracting wealth that could not be extracted without state enforcement, monopoly and covert systems of control and extortion. When the “too big to fail” banks received $16 trillion in direct subsidies and loans to keep from imploding (i.e. what would have happened in a truly free enterprise system), that was the mafia state of mind in action: the central state extorted whatever was necessary from the populace to aid and protect its banker cronies.

What is the shadow banking system other than a shadow financial mafia? The “too big to fail” banking sector is a mafia of the cartel-crony capitalist sort, and the shadow banking system is a cloaked version of the same extortionist system that depends on the government for protection. In the shadow banking mafia, the government protects the racket by acting as if it doesn’t exist.

When there is no other choice but submission, when voting for either party yields the same results, the mafia state of mind reigns supreme. The mafia state of mind exists in all ideological flavors–socialist, capitalist, communist. The mafia state of mind is simple: leave the populace no choice but submission, enforce monopolies of control and power, and then extract and extort to your heart’s content.

Once the mafia state of mind has seeped into every nook and cranny of the society and economy, it’s not even recognized as corruption: it’s simply the way the system works. And so the residents of nominal democracies in Asia, Europe and the Americas do not even realize how thoroughly corrupted their societies and economies really are; they cling to the illusions of choice even as their incomes, wealth and political influence are funneled into the hands of various elites by overlapping extortion rackets.

Once you realize that the mafia is a state of mind, you recognize just how thoroughly it has corrupted and criminalized our entire society and economy.

Yeah, I was just going to post that. Guess it goes back to what so many have said here in the past, if the shit does hit the fan, the authority’s may be the least of our worries.

You would have to wonder if gun registration lead to this incident.

If the owner of the home did not have registered firearms would swat have been called in to check for a credit card scam?

Insofar as they have been able to alter, pollute and re-define American institutions they have only caused the American people to distrust these institutions.

The IRS, always a thorn in the side of the people, there was a knowledge that there were tax cheats and that the IRS was a necessary evil. That benefit of the doubt was erased for many people who found themselves targeted by the IRS for political beliefs, also a thing suspected but never proved until the targeting of political opponents became fact.

The NSA, hardly heard of before was considered a necessary evil to protect the national security, until it started spying on the American people with alarming support from the elected government officials (yes, your elected representatives and senators). It no longer enjoys the benefit of the doubt.

The Department of Homeland Security, first distrusted by liberals and conservatives alike, now is supported by the most radical liberals as a way of extending the power of the federal government to use against the detested conservatives and their allies, i.e. Christians and veterans.

The local Police Department, once seen as an ally in civilized society with a few malefactors always present, is now a virtual Standing Army as actively hostile to the American citizen as British troops once were. The mask is off and we see who they are with the proliferation of video capabilities of cell phones. (which should be used mercilessly to expose their true colors)

The United States Military, always understood as an extension of the American ideal, occasionally found itself in wars of political confusion, inarticulate goals and unspecified outcomes has been turned into a weapon to be used against the American people when push comes to shove. The alarming shakeup at the very pinnacle of military command has brought the whole institution into question as to where it stands politically and the people are not willing to give it the benefit of the doubt once considered to be beyond suspicion.

The Supreme Court, once the only protector of rights against the massive power of the federal and state governments, has turned instead to social engineering, finding rights in shadows of other rights and refusing to acknowledge rights in plain and clear English.

Welfare, Social Security, food stamps, housing assistance have all been converted from social safety nets to armies in political conflict with the very concept of private property. This is why charity belongs to religion, not government, because government can never resist the opportunity to use every weapon it can against its foes.

Finally, every agency of the federal government is militarized. The Post Office just ordered hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition. Every state agency is militarized to some degree where compliance to regulations will be enforced by the Sheriff.

They think they have all they will need to win the war against a soft, uneducated and apathetic public.

But, almost all political change has been the result of economic crisis and a new one is brewing. The federal government is getting ready for it. They might seem like a bunch of bumbling fools who are unable to solve the issues of unemployment, border insurgency and crime, but they know what they are doing.

The announcement of the MyRA, a diabolical ruse to entice the average working poor to invest in government bonds, is only a precursor to the nationalization of all IRAs and 401ks. Fortunately, it will probably be implemented with the smooth efficiency of Obamacare and rattle enough cages early enough that resistance can be brought to bear. http://christianmerc.blogspot.com/

If you understand that the goal of the Fed and the globalists is to dismantle the dollar and the U.S. economic system to make way for something “new”, then certain recent events and policy initiatives do start to make sense.

We all know that the claims of recovery are utter nonsense. Beyond the numerous warning signs listed above, one need only look at true unemployment numbers, household wage decline, and record low personal savings of the average American. The taper is not in response to an improving economic environment. Rather, the taper is a signal for the next stage of collapse.

Last month, just as taper measures were being implemented, the White House launched an investment program called MyRA; a retirement IRA program in which middle class and low wage Americans can invest part of their paycheck in government bonds.

Obama has already signed mandatory health insurance “taxation” into law, which is meant to steal a portion of every paycheck. Why not steal an even larger portion from every paycheck in order to support U.S. debt? It’s for the “greater good,” after all.

Third, is this a deliberate strategy to corral the last vestiges of private American wealth into the corner of U.S. bonds, so that this wealth can be confiscated or annihilated? What happens if there is indeed an eventual debt default, as I believe there will be? Will Americans be herded into bonds by a crisis in stocks only to have bonds implode as well? Will they be conned into bond investment out of a “patriotic duty” to save the nation from default? Or, will the government just take their money through legislative wrangling, as was done in Cyprus not long ago?

The World Bank’s former chief economist wants to replace the US dollar with a single global super-currency, saying it will create a more stable global financial system.

“The dominance of the greenback is the root cause of global financial and economic crises,” Justin Yifu Lin told Bruegel, a Brussels-based policy-research think tank. “The solution to this is to replace the national currency with a global currency.”

Lin, now a professor at Peking University and a leading adviser to the Chinese government, said expanding the basket of major reserve currencies — the dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen and pound sterling — will not address the consequences of a financial crisis. Internationalizing the Chinese currency is not the answer, either, he said.

Lin urged the international community, especially the US and European Union, to play a leading role in currency and infrastructure initiatives. To boost the global economy, he proposed the launch of a “global infrastructure initiative” to remove development bottlenecks in poor and developing countries, a measure he said would also offer opportunities for advanced economies.

“China can only play a supporting role in realizing the plans,” Lin said. “The urgent thing is for the US and Europe to endorse these plans. And I think the G20 is an ideal platform to discuss the ideas,” he said, referring to the group of finance ministers and central bank governors from 20 major economies.
