A heartwarming video showing the bond between a disabled boy and his Crufts-winning dog has gone viral.
Little Owen Howkins, seven, suffers from a rare genetic condition called Schwartz-Jampel that makes his muscles permanently tense.
When he realised he was different from other boys and girls he became scared to leave the house.
But after his parents bought him a three-legged dog named Haatchi he not only braves the outside world but basks in the glory of winning dog shows.
Anatolian shepherd dog Haatchi suffered terrible injuries as a puppy when somebody tied him to a railway line and he was hit by a train.
He was found with a mangled tail and back leg, and by the time he was taken to a vet’s surgery, nothing could be done to save his leg and tail and both had to be amputated.
Haatchi struggled to find a new home and his future looked bleak before he was eventually adopted by Colleen Drummond, fiancée of Will Howkins, father of little Owen.
Colleen, who has been Owen’s stepmum since he was three, told the Basingstoke Gazette: “Before his arrival, Owen didn’t like going out – he was practically agoraphobic. When he first started school, he became more aware of being different, and he became even more withdrawn.
“Owen used to be scared of strangers, but now he wants to talk to everyone about Haatchi and wants to go out all the time to dog shows. The difference we see in him can’t be put into words.”
RAF engineer Will said: “: “Owen is incredibly attached to Haatchi – in fact, they are very attached to each other.
“Haatchi will come and drink out of the bath when I’m bathing Owen, and they don’t like to be apart.”
Haatchi is set to be presented with a special award next week by Queen legend Brian May at the House of Lords.
The award from the International Fund for Animal Welfare recognising the special roll Haatchi has played in Owen’s life.

Are you REALLY getting full permission, and if so, how ………… or, are you just making shit up?
Damn, I thought this was a reference to the great movie starring Don Johnson.
Fuck, cruelty to anyone or thing – like animals…..just sends my blood full boil. Damn you who cause suffering and enjoy it….karma’s a fucking mean bitch.
Mind your own fucking business. I have emailed the guys that run several sites and have gotten their permission to post stuff from their sites. Do it yourself if you don’t believe me.
This is a sweet one. I had to watch it in two parts – getting a crying rag in the middle.
Yes, I seem to be turning into a more tender, old man – I will not become cynical in my advancing years. Tears come easier than they used to, but in this case, It left me with a warm fuzzy that will last me a day or two..
Thanks for posting it. It’s a jewel. I passed it on.
