WOULD YOU LIKE SOME OBAMACARE WITH THAT BURGER? NO – WELL TOUGH SHIT

Obamacare – the gift that keeps on giving.

Did you get that $2,500 reduction in healthcare premiums?

Did your hours get cut from 40 to 29?

Have you figured out the website yet?

Is Obamacare cost neutral to the deficit or will it actually add over $1.4 trillion to the national debt in the next five years?

Do you like your two options and the $10,000 deductible?

Is your care going to get better?

And now you get to pay for it through surcharges on your chili cheese dog.

Obamacare: Now Appearing On Your Restaurant Bill

Tyler Durden's picture

3

That the bulk of Americans (especially those 4+ million whose insurance policies have recently been cancelled as a result of the ACA) have to pay more for healthcare as a result of Obamacare, is now largely accepted and well-known. But did you know that the cost of Obamacare is slowly metastasizing to other places? Such as your restaurant bill.

Presenting Exhibit A.

From CNN:

Several restaurants in a Florida chain are asking customers to help foot the bill for Obamacare. Diners at eight Gator’s Dockside casual eateries are finding a 1% Affordable Care Act surcharge on their tabs, which comes to 15 cents on a typical $15 lunch tab. Signs on the door and at tables alert diners to the fee, which is also listed separately on the bill.

The Gator Group’s full-time hourly employees won’t actually receive health insurance until December. But the company said it implemented the surcharge now because of the compliance costs it’s facing ahead of the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate kicking in in 2015.

“The costs associated with ACA compliance could ultimately close our doors,” the sign reads. “Instead of raising prices on our products to generate the additional revenue needed to cover the costs of ACA compliance, certain Gator’s Dockside locations have implemented a 1% surcharge on all food and beverage purchases only.”

The company employs a total of 500 people, with about half working full-time. Currently only management receives health benefits, but the restaurant will have to offer coverage to all full-timers once the mandate takes effect. The fee will allow the company to continue offering full-time hours to many workers, according to Sandra Clark, the group’s director of operations.

I’m just trying to keep the employees I have that I’ve worked hard to train,” Clark said.

In addition to the costs of providing health care, the company hired one additional staffer and a consulting firm to make sure it is complying with the law and to assist in the additional tracking of workers’ hours and wages required by Obamacare, said Clark.

Clark is not sure how much the company is spending on compliance, but estimates that it will cost $500,000 a year to extend insurance to its full-time hourly restaurant workers. The surcharge may bring in about $160,000 a year, she hopes.

So more surcharges coming then.

The bottom line decision for businesses: fire your workers, or pass through the costs to other consumers. Many have done the fomer, or converted full-time workers to part-time status. Increasingly more are opting for the latter. How long until the popular outcry that this latest “freebie” by the government was anything but.

“it will cost $500,000 a year to extend insurance to its full-time hourly restaurant workers. The surcharge may bring in about $160,000 a year, she hopes”

So, the owner is still going to have to come up with $340,000 for Obamacare for full-time employees. I wonder if anyone is that stupid, just to throw away $340k, when you can make them all part-time. And how much business will they lose with the Obamacare surcharge? I wouldn’t eat there anymore.

From what I’m seeing on a daily basis, Obamacare is taking health insurance away from people that work and giving it to people that don’t work. It’s taking people that have full-time jobs and can support themselves and turning them into part-timers that are forced to sign up for welfare and free shit. Socialism at it’s finest. Redistribution from the productive to the lazy parasites.

But not to worry, the worst parts of Obamacare won’t come online until after the midterm elections. We haven’t even seen the worst of it yet.

People are getting ready for the Obamapoclypse.

Too fucking bad! I absolutely refuse to pay one more fucking penny for this bullshit. If I got a charge like this, it would come out of the tip and the waiter/ess would know exactly why. This is from a person that usually tips 25-30% in cash for good service. I don’t care if the bill is $10 for a breakfast or $400 at Ruth Chris I always tip well because I realize that these people are working for a living too. However, I will not be extorted to pay one fucking penny for Obongo’s shit! They can close all the restaurants and fire everyone for all I care. It’s a lot cheaper and healthier to cook at home anyway!

Companies in the US (the ones that didn’t bribe Obama and get to “opt out”) have two choices:

1) provide insurance for their full time employees. Obamacare is doubling and tripling health insurance premiums, and quintupling deductibles. Are businesses just going to eat this cost? Nope, they’ll have to raise prices. You will be paying for Obamacare in higher prices.

2) Drop their health insurance and push everyone into Obamacare, while cutting as many employees to part-time as possible.

Obviously, companies can barely afford health insurance for their employees now. They cannot afford to pay twice or three times what they are paying now. The CBO estimated that 2.5 million jobs will be lost because of Obamacare, so, in reality, it’s probably 2-3x that.

Bottom line, unless you’re in the FREE SHIT ARMY, you are going to be paying for Obamacare in so many ways you won’t be able to keep track.

Ridicules. Shit flows down hill ……… and the consumer is always at the bottom.

I realize this probably, I guess, affects all restaurants. However, if OreoCare helps put McShits and their ilk out of business, or even significantly reduces their business, well, that’s a good thing.

You are a fat piece of Boomer shit ragman. Why would you withhold tips from a waitress just because of Obamacare? We work hard serving old creeps like you. We had nothing to do with the surcharge! If you ever come to my restaurant I will spit in your salad. I hate cheap shit hypocrites like you.

Over the last decade or so my wife and I have weened ourselves completely off of fast food. Over the last few years we have also weened ourselves off of non-fast food restaurants that serve pre-packaged crap. As you can imagine, that severely limits our choices in dining out. There now only three dining establishments we patronize in our home town and one each in Meridian, ID and Walla Walla, WA. A meal in these places costs 2-3 times the price of a meal elsewhere.

If I ever see a charge for Obamacare on a dinner check that will be the last time I eat there just out of principal and I’ll tell the owners that. It’s too bad too because I’m friends with the owners of these places.

To be honest, my wife and I cook much better food that 99.9% of restaurants serve. We can master just about any dish in two or three attempts and we have complete control over the ingredients. Besides that, it’s something we can do together.

I for one would like to see the whole system of tipping abolished. It is bullshit. Employers need to pay the commercial wage and charge appropriately for their services and goods.

Plus it would end the tax dodging by those currently employed on a gratuity system.

I think everyone should boycott tipping. The system would change within days if we did.

I don’t understand why anyone would boycott a restaurant – or other business – or cut the waitress’s throat because this company decided to tell its patrons the TRUTH, instead of hiding it, covering it up, converting employees to contract or part-time, and, more than likely, blaming it on something else like the Walmarts and IBMs are doing. Instead of PRAISING the fucking TRUTH, you shun it?

It is fucking ridiculous to even try to employ Americans. You risk incarceration for mis-filing a form with the feds, the states and locals are constantly beating down your doors to inspect you, cost you money/time, your employees and customers are crossing their fingers and hoping to find a way to sue you, and then you have employees doing things like spitting on food which could result in loss of your business, and in many cases, home, while the guilty employee goes forth and collects unemployment.

And you shits wonder why this country is going to hell?

Are you kidding me?

Z – do not be a dumbass. The US has better employees in all fields than France. You pick the only one to compare where tipping is involved.

Tipping sucks. It should be abolished. Employers should pay their employees. Why should customers be forced/coerced to pay for the employee?

That is fucked up.

Interestingly, there is no (well virtually no) tipping in restaurants in New Zealand. I am sure this will surprise may of you (it did me). The minimum wage over here is $13.75 (set to go to $14.25) yet costs in restaurants are only a little more than in the U.S. The price on the menu is what you pay, period. No taxes not already in the price and no tipping. So, when I was in the U.S. and lived in a middle of the road sales tax state (Kentucky) my restaurant bills were always the cost of the food, plus the 6% sales tax, plus the 20% tip I gave for anything but poor service. In New Zealand, when you adjust for those things not being added to the bill, the price is comparable, sometimes less, sometimes more.

Plus, even with the higher minimum wage, if you want to eat the cheap s**t corporate fast food, you can still get cheapo food like $4.99 Dominos pizzas and value menu crap at McDonalds. Even that stuff is better than the U.S. version as it is not made from GMO products (except McDonalds imports their ketchup packets from the US so it is full of GMO high fructose corn syrup) and the food quality is better, on average, in NZ vs. the U.S.

Example, no worries about eating rare hamburger, raw eggs, undercooked chicken, etc. either at home or in the restaurant (well, undercooked chicken is sort of gross but you are not likely to get any food poisoning from it).

Also another interesting confounding factor – even with no tipping, service is comparable or even better than in the U.S.!!

Teresa, not kidding at all here. Fact is that every month I take home slightly less money because of mandatory bullshit inflicted/stolen from me. On top of that, inflation eats away relentlessly at what is left and I have to pay more taxes and fees at nearly every other business I frequent. I believe my job is fairly secure but in this economy you can never be sure. It’s only prudent for me to increase my own preps, savings and other things while I can. My wife noted not long ago that her family rarely went out to eat when they were growing up. It was more of a treat than a way of life or convenience. Do I feel bad that I won’t or can’t frequent all of the restaurants and other businesses I might otherwise frequent? In many cases yes. In more cases no but the 49% percent of producers cannot continue to support the 51% of FSA. This ship is going down and it’s every man for himself when it does.

This weekend my project is to buy a new fridge, new hot water heater and a(nother) new washer. Current appliances are 10-20 years old and still functioning. I’ll also be buying a new motor, heating element and belt for my dryer. Washer and dryer repair is a piece of cake. My washer is only a couple years old but by the time I need a new one, quality will be in the toilet and the models/features I want will not be available. Fucking govt already regulates washing machine features now! Besides that, all of these items will almost certainly cost more by the time I NEED them than they do now so I’m front running inflation. It will also lower my future costs and I have plenty of room to store these durable goods so why not add them to my preps? The banks certainly aren’t paying me to hold cash.

Fucking people like Clammy talking about spitting in peoples food makes me want to take them out back and beat them senseless with a tube sock full of wood screws. After hearing that shit I’m not a bit sorry about giving up chain restaurants like OG and others. Fucking minnies like her are useless! And she’s got the nerve to bash boomers? What admin sees in that bitch is beyond me!
