WOMAN TACKLED, CUFFED & ARRESTED FOR WALKING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD

Your daily dose of copfuk brutality. Do you sense a trend?

Woman says Whitehouse police unfairly arrested her for not stopping to talk to officer

KYTX CBS 19 Tyler Longview News Weather Sports
A Whitehouse woman claims she was unfairly arrested for failing to stop for a police officer. She says the cop was acting suspicious and she felt threatened, but police officials say she handled it the wrong way.

Melissa Bonnette says she was on her usual morning walk around 9:45 a.m. Friday when a man in uniform on a motorcycle pulled up next to her, asking if she lived in the area and if he could speak to her.

“I thought that maybe he was flirting,” she said. “I just thought it was odd, I thought it was odd. I wasn’t really sure but I felt uncomfortable because there wasn’t anyone around.”

She says she was worried he might not even a real cop, so she refused to stop and began jogging away from him.

“He just crept along beside me on his motorcycle and he started saying, ‘Hey ma’am! I want to talk to you. Hey stop, ma’am! I want to talk to you.’ Then my anxiety rose even higher,” she said.

“The motorcycle has a patch on both sides of the gas tank. It’s black and white and says ‘Whitehouse Police,’ and has red and blue lights on it,” Whitehouse Police Chief Craig Shelton said. “So you have to take it for what it is. Do you think he’s a Whitehouse police officer? Why would you think he’s someone impersonating a police officer?”

That’s when Bonnette says he got off his bike, chased her down, tackled her and threw her in handcuffs.

“I just was crying and I was saying ‘Please sir, please sir. Why are you doing this?’ It was like I was in a nightmare. I hadn’t done anything wrong,” she said.

“Normally if a police officer pulls up, in my opinion, it’s awful odd for somebody just to take off and not want to speak to the police officer,” Shelton said. “And he had a lawful reason to be there and to stop her.”

That reason, Shelton says, is that Bonnette was walking on the wrong side of the road.

“By law, you have to be to the far left facing oncoming traffic,” he said.

So why was Bonnette handcuffed and put under arrest? Shelton says she was evading police.

“He told her I believe twice to quit resisting and she wouldn’t — she continued to resist,” he said. “So, he put her on the ground.”

But Bonnette argues she was unfairly treated like a criminal, and wants the officer in question –Shawn Johnson — to be fired.

“I really don’t want to live in a town where something like this could happen to a law-abiding citizen,” she said. “I’m not going to be able to walk anymore, and that’s sad because I enjoy walking every day. But I’m terrified. It was just so traumatic.”

Shelton says by law you’re not required to stop and talk to an officer if there’s not a lawful reason for them to be stopping you. But in this case, he says the fact that Bonnette was walking on the wrong side of the road was reason enough for Johnson to stop her.

Bonnette hasn’t been charged with anything, but the entire incident was caught on dashcam video and Shelton says it will be investigated further. He also says Johnson acted appropriately and won’t be reprimanded.

The more stories like this get out, the more the media will attempt to smother them, it will be up to bloggers, until you are shut down.

Can’t have the people feel they have any power.

If she was not told she was being detained, she had no obligation to stop. What the fuck is wrong with the world?

Has there ever been a fake cop impersonator? It just occured to me that its actually pretty common in tv but I’ve never heard of it in an actual event.

Oh, and the woman should sue for stalking, harassment, and assault.

Her protective servant should have told her right away that she was walking on the wrong side of the road and gone on his way.

He apparently did not?

The protective servants should hold seminars so the public can learn how to “properly” handle these situations.

Talk about your home-grown terrorists.

I live in Whitehouse, and have to run the Whitehouse PD speed trap gauntlet twice a day.
Whitehouse, a town of barely over 7000 people has one heck of a fine fleet of $90K black GM Tahoe’s, and a police force 13 members strong. These morons are out of control.

Here is a video from the “dash” cam

@Bambam – “Has there ever been a fake cop impersonator? It just occurred to me that its actually pretty common in tv but I’ve never heard of it in an actual event.”

It happens in more rural parts of the country pretty frequently. Teenagers will steal their dad’s cop car and go joy riding, pulling people over by flipping on their cherries.

Sometimes people will put lights on their car so they can fuck with people.

Occasionally someone will impersonate an officer with more nefarious intentions in mind, a late night grope or rape. (all three of these happened where I grew up)

This asshole wanted to wave his fucking badge around like he was a somebody, as Maddie’s Mom said, if he really wanted to have polite discourse he could have done the following:

“Excuse me Ma’am, but you are on the wrong side of the road.”

or

“Excuse me Ma’am, I’m Officer Smith and I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you to jog on the other side of the road.”

The list goes on. These fuckwits are looking to exercise their authority first and foremost.

Where do you get a good cop costume? It might be fun to stand outside a gay bar and command “I’m gonna need you fairies to cross over to the other side of the street”.

I live in a small, rural, New England town. The police, for the most part, are all residents, and have been since I can remember. Fathers and uncles retire and kids take their place. This has worked very, very well, as I think it would be really hard for some kid cop to throw nana down on the ground and/or tase her and then explain that to mom over Sunday dinner.
However….I see an increasing amount of violence in larger towns and urban centers where police are not personally known or accountable.
Crime for the most part here is small-time theft, shoplifting, traffic stuff, and the usual drinking and drug crap.
Every once in a while crazy comes to town and murder happens.
Our police do a pretty good job here and so far I have never felt threatened.
My husband and I have had the conversation about what’s going on in CT. That the State Police have pretty much said they will come and kick your door in and take your “unregistered” guns if you don’t comply. What is the local (if there is one, some towns do not have local police) police force going to do here? Will they stand by and watch their citizens be treated like criminals?
On another note…we have several active and/or retired military in our family. These are career military, been in for well over 10, 15 years. These are our brothers. I know them. I cannot, under any circumstances, imagine any of them taking up arms against American Citizens just because they are told to.
I hope and pray that there are people that realize that the constitution is the law of the land. Period.

Griz,

I hear ya bro.. fuckin podunk PD’s in towns like Dirtville are just way out of control. The quaint old timey “Peace Officer” is being replaced by a bunch of roided up thugs and goons – worse, these thugs and goons are being showered with military grade hardware that you and me paid for – courtesy of that gaggle of fucks known as Homeland inSecurity.

It’ll only get worse… our county is pretty good – we still got a contingent of old timey “Peace Officers” working, but other counties are not so lucky. Was driving to town a couple 3 weeks ago or so, it was Sunday and the first of the month (payday) was only two days away. First real nice day of Spring and the fucking enforcers and thugs were out in droves running speed traps. I guess the County Commissioner decided to put in a new fucking swimming pool in his backyard and had his goons out raping the wallets of good people simply going about their business…

It’s not about “excessive speed”… in 5 years of living here, I’ve seen ONE, and only one, dumbshit driving at an excessive speed. Most accidents are from folks hitting a deer, which is hardly preventable by running a speed trap. It’s armed robbery under Color of Law – a shakedown. You’re driving along minding your own and some armed thug pulls you over and demands you pay tribute to the Almighty State or he’ll tazer your, beat you, slap you in hand irons and haul your ass to the clink…

That shit ain’t right, bro…

What harm would it have done to just told her she was walking on the wrong side as soon as he came along side her. He had no real reason to stop her, just inform her of her mistake (wrong doing). Why did he not see she was upset or uncomfortable with him approaching her (her not thinking she had done anything ) . The Cop Handled it all wrong. I don’t think he should be fired but should apologize to her for acting so rash. The first judge you face in any crime is the arresting officer .

I stopped typing this & come back & seen the dash cam of the incident . She’s a moron . But he could have told her when he came along side her. When she run he just got a stiffy on …had know chose but to catch her then. Cops not wrong here.

How many other people has Shawn Johnson stopped and arrested for walking on the wrong side of the street. If it is zero, as I suspect, then Shawn Johnson should be fired and his law enforcement license revoked. The Police Chief should also be removed.

Sooo, you done seen it and come back, eh? WTF? You related to Calamity?

The entire dashcam vid, plus cop interviews, plus the lady talking with police after the incident —- is here;

She knew it was a legitimate cop right from the get go. And there were other people around.

She ran from the cops. This is a dumbfuk move regardless of why you’re being stopped.

The cop lied about her ‘resisting arrest’. She was questioning him, not resisting.

The cops say there have been 78 calls (burglary, DUI, drugs, etc) in that neighborhood since February.

I hate copfuks. But, in this case, they were BOTH morons.
