Obama’s motorcade stops woman in labor from entering hospital across the street
An incident in Los Angeles is turning into a public-relations nightmare for the administration of President Barack Obama as security for the president’s motorcade reportedly kept a woman in labor from crossing the street to get to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on the city’s west side.
Several media outlets quoted witnesses who said the woman was ordered to remain on a bus bench for at least 30 minutes, a few hundred feet away from the hospital, until the motorcade passed. The story was first reported by The Blaze.
Robert Kovacik, a reporter for NBC Los Angeles, videotaped a Los Angeles Police Department sergeant on his Instagram saying that as soon as the motorcade passed, emergency crews would try to attend to the woman, but he offered no guarantees.
One witness, Carrie Clifford, tweeted a picture during the wait that showed hospital personnel in scrubs with a caption that read: “Still no baby. Still no #Obama.”
The Blaze quoted Clifford as saying: “I felt bad for her. It does happen when Obama comes to L.A. or I’m sure anywhere else. It paralyzes the city, it does make it complicated.”
Obama’s visits to Los Angeles have been notorious for tying up critical roadways in one of the most traffic-congested cities in the nation. The president is often criticized for arriving right around the afternoon rush hour and tying up traffic for several hours. Local residents often complain of being unable to venture out into the city.
As for the unidentified pregnant woman, there was no word on what happened with her or the baby.
