Discuss this interview at the Podcast Table inside the Diner
Technical Production Note: In the first 10 minutes or so of the Interview, I was working on my Cell Phone rather than over Skype, and my Audio is not very good there. Dmitry’s Audio is clear and so is Monsta’s. I switched to Skype and my Audio for the rest of the Podcast is quite clear.
Dmitry Orlov has been studying the dynamics of the Collapse of Industrial Society for many years, he runs the Blog Club Orlov and is author of The 5 Stages of Collapse, as well as succeeding texts on the subject. In my first years investigating Collapse issues, Dmitry’s name was often bandied about on the Peak Oil forum.
In this first part of our interview with Dmitry we look at the ongoing conflict inside Ukraine, conflicts in the Middle East, the underlying conflicts of Energy and Credit systems behind these problems, Bilateral trade agreements between Russia and the other BRICS nations and many other related topics.
In Part II we look at more general aspects of collapse, possibilities for a population Bottleneck or Near Term Human Extinction, and the potential for developing Sustainable Communities in the aftermath of Industrial Civilization Collapse.

Nice interview.
But, Ukraine is soooo …. yesterday. You need to move on to the really really REAL crisis facing America.
And that would be ISIS.
Things I learned today (since CuNNt and Fux are all over this like stink on shit showcasing one military General after another, and several politicians from the highest level)
— ISIS now has its own government!!
— ISIS threatens the entire middle east
— unless we bomb the fuck outta them, the whole world is at risk
— It is a virtually certainty that there are sleeper cells in the USA!USA!USA!
— Be afraid! THEY ARE COMING TO AMERICA!! Any day now. I believe on El Al airlines.
Therefore, please adjust your future podcasts accordingly.
I’d be happy to move on to ISIS if I could find a blogger who knows as much about MENA politics as Dmitry knows about Russian and Ukrainian politics. Got any suggestions for somebody to invite?

Dick Chaney.
I was hoping for Kissinger.

In reality, I am working on Tony Cartalucci from Land Destroyer for this, but the calendar is pretty booked. Still have to get the chat with Hardscrabble Farmer done of course.
Part II with Dmitry up on Sunday I think. Better than Part I IMHO.

Dmitri is ok. You do realize that he’s been gone from Russia since he was very young? He was socialized in the west, so his values and outlook are not really Russian. He is very bright.
We lived in Russia for years, working. I think he’s off the mark on many things. He is the child of Russian refugees, remember.
He definitely has an overly optimistic interpretation of the current Russian economy with a “burgeoning” middle class.
He does however draw a lot of visitors. We spiked to quadruple our average page views yesterday. 🙂
