Liberty, Not Government, is Key to Containing Ebola

Guest Post by Ron Paul

According to Forbes magazine, at least 5,000 Americans contacted healthcare providers fearful they had contracted Ebola after the media reported that someone with Ebola had entered the United States. All 5,000 cases turned out to be false alarms. In fact, despite all the hype about Ebola generated by the media and government officials, as of this writing there has only been one preliminarily identified case of someone contracting Ebola within the United States.

Ebola is a dangerous disease, but it is very difficult to contract. Ebola spreads via direct contact with the virus.

This usually occurs though contact with bodily fluids. While the Ebola virus may remain on dry surfaces for several hours, it can be destroyed by common disinfectants. So common-sense precautions should be able to prevent Ebola from spreading. It is no coincidence that many of those countries suffering from mass Ebola outbreaks have also suffered from the plagues of dictatorship and war. The devastation wrought by years of war has made it impossible for these countries to develop modern healthcare infrastructure.

For example, the 14-year civil war in Liberia left that country with almost no trained doctors. Those who could leave the war-torn country were quick to depart. Sadly, American foreign aid props up dictators and encourages militarism in these countries.President Obama’s response to the Ebola crisis has been to send 3,000 troops to West African countries to help with treatment and containment. Obama did not bother to seek congressional authorization for this overseas military deployment. Nor did he bother to tell the American people how long the mission would last, how much it would cost, or what section of the Constitution authorizes him to send US troops on “humanitarian” missions.

The people of Liberia and other countries would be better off if the US government left them alone. Leave it to private citizens to invest in African business and trade with the African people. Private investment and trade would help these countries develop thriving free-market economies capable of sustaining a modern healthcare infrastructure.Legitimate concerns about protecting airline passengers from those with Ebola or other infectious diseases can best be addressed by returning responsibility for passenger safety to the airlines.

After all, private airlines have a greater incentive than does government to protect their passengers from contagious diseases. They can do so while providing a safe means of travel for those seeking medical treatment in the United States. This would remove the incentive to lie about exposure to the virus among those seeking to come here for treatment.Ebola patients in the US have received permission from the Food and Drug Administration to use “unapproved” drugs. This is a positive development. But why should those suffering from potentially lethal diseases have to seek special permission from federal bureaucrats to use treatments their physicians think might help? And does anyone doubt that the FDA’s cumbersome approval process has slowed down the development of treatments for Ebola?

Firestone Tire and Rubber Company has successfully contained the spread of Ebola among 80,000 people living in Harbel, the Liberian town housing employees of Firestone’s Liberian plant and their families. In March, after the wife of a Firestone employee developed Ebola symptoms, Firestone constructed its own treatment center and implemented a program of quarantine and treatment. Firestone has successfully kept the Ebola virus from spreading among its employees. As of this writing, there are only three Ebola patients at Firestone’s treatment facility.

Firestone’s success in containing Ebola shows that, far from justifying new state action, the Ebola crises demonstrates that individuals acting in the free market can do a better job of containing Ebola than can governments. The Ebola crisis is also another example of how US foreign aid harms the very people we are claiming to help. Limiting government at home and abroad is the best way to protect health and freedom.

Why are those who had contact with Duncan and are now under “self monitoring” allowed to travel on commercial airlines as Amber Vinson did? That plane made 5 other flights after hers. Her apartment complex is being hosed down (sidewalks, railings, etc.).

The CDC is WAY behind the 8-ball on this…What a clusterfuck!

It should be obvious by now that even one person that made the trip from West Africa infected with the Ebola virus is already creating an intolerable sequence of events. Now try to imagine 10 such cases of Ebola infected travelers entering the US.

STOP UNRESTRICTED TRAVEL FROM WEST AFRICA!!!!

What I love is they are only looking at the return portion of the flight?

So she was A-Ok, or levitated to Cleveland?

The gaps in the story are telling. Just like we are to believe this man presented himself and was turned away yet NO ONE was infected then?

Lies. We are being fed a story of panic, yet the story needs to convince us it is under control.

All the better to vaccinate you with my dear.

This is being ramped up the same way the H1N1 was. Billions are going to pour from the government to various industries, which is going to go quite the ways to covering up the continued destruction of our economy.

EXACTLY like what happened with H1N1.

As I am fond of telling my hub, just because Brian Williams hasn’t told you about it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

I am in receipt of the Ebola plans for several of my hospitals. They are a hoot. When I can figure out how to post them, I will.

Spoiler Alert: Out of a 10 point plan, 7 steps are meetings, education sessions or computer fixes. Very little boots on the ground or talk of LOCKING DOWN THE FREAKING FACILITY BEFORE THE EBOLA PATIENT or VISITOR CONTAMINATES THE WHOLE PLACE.

It’s like #hashtag diplomacy, but with a FATAL FOOKIN’ INFECTIOUS DISEASE.

We. Are. In. The. Best. Of. Hands.

@Hope, who drafted those Ebola plans? CDC? NIH? HHS?

I just heard an interesting comment by Rand Paul a few minutes ago. He said that when the CDC says you can only get Ebola by direct contact, that includes being within 3 feet of an infected person when they sneeze, that is considered direct contact with the person.

Seriously can you believe this shit?

“The Texas nurse who contracted Ebola while caring for a dying Liberian man repeatedly visited his room from the day he was admitted to the intensive care unit until the day before he died, medical records show.”

http://www.haaretz.com/news/world/1.620694

Nina Pham was in and out of Duncan’s room the whole way through, but I bet she got the disease towards the end of his illness when all hell was breaking loose.

And from the CDC themselves, they list what constitutes high risk exposure and low risk exposure:

“Low risk exposures:

A low risk exposure includes any of the following

– Household contact with an EVD patient
– Other close contact with EVD patients in health care facilities or community settings. Close contact is defined as
a) being within approximately 3 feet (1 meter) of an EVD patient or within the patient’s room or care area for a prolonged period of time (e.g., health care personnel, household members) while not wearing recommended personal protective equipment (i.e., standard, droplet, and contact precautions; see Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations).”

http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/hcp/case-definition.html

One commenter said that he thinks so many medical personnel got sick because they were assuming Ebola couldn’t be transmitted via aerosol droplets.

Nigeria acted quickly after the sick American flew into their country from Liberia. That`s what has to be done. While I was reading this, I got up the maps of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia (showing their districts or counties). They think it all started with a two-year old boy (his sister, mother and grandmother died as well) in the southern forested area of Guinea, where it borders with Sierra Leone and Liberia, in December of 2013. As you read it and look at the maps, you can see how the disease fanned out.

By March, Guinea was reporting many new cases. Finally, in August, they cordoned off a huge area, but:

“On 8 August, a cordon sanitaire, a disease-fighting practice that forcibly isolates affected regions, was established in the triangular area where Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone are separated only by porous borders and where 70 percent of the known cases had been found. By September, the closure of borders had caused a collapse of cross-border trade and was having a devastating effect on the economies of the involved countries. A United Nations spokesperson reported that the price of some food staples had increased by as much as 150% and warned that if they continue to rise widespread food shortages can be expected.”

If you read the article, you will see that we needed to act way back in March or April. We could have provided food drops while they cordoned off these areas, and it most likely would have been contained. And moving people around by taxi and transporting them to major cities, the hospitals, appears to be spreading the disease further.

One toxicologist’s opinion:

“It spreads very easily. An infected person doesn’t need to touch you, or have you touch them; nor sneeze on you, or have sex with you. It’s their aura, the infected person’s atmosphere around them carries the moisture-born Ebola virus, their own contaminated body fluids. Yes, their sweat evaporating into the air around them is infected, and contagious.

Because of the virulence of this stuff, it doesn’t act like measles or small pox or anything like that, something far, far worse. You can’t say that this is from person-to-person contact; it’s just not possible that it can be that way.

There are some safety measures, but no guarantees. In 1976 they quarantined the towns where there were Ebola epidemics, posting soldiers at every entrance, so people were not allowed in or out. […]

As an aside to this, there is only one west-east highway in Africa. It starts on the west coast and goes to the east coast, right on the Equator and this is the way the AIDS virus got spread through Africa. Africa as a country has the highest rate of AIDS in the world. Children have no parents, because they all got AIDS and died. This doesn’t affect the children as much because AIDS is mainly a sexually-transmitted disease.

“All” of the truck drivers that went through from West Africa to East Africa had AIDS, they got it from the prostitutes on the truck routes and passed it along. So, I think we’re facing something of a similar nature right now. Because a truck driver, even if he’s sick, has the flu, which is Ebola, is going to transmit it right across central Africa.

Ebola certainly can be transmitted sexually, but it is actually transmitted via the aura, or inhaling the atmosphere of an infected person.”

With the possibility of the Ebola virus going viral and with close to 100% of the US population of 340M being susceptible to contracting that virus, the results could be catastrophic. The CDC $ WHO calculated a third world country mortality rate at 50% for this virus in West Africa. Developed countries would fare much better at maybe something around 25%. Even at a mortality rate of only 10% the US could lose up to 35M people or more to this disease.

The medical / healthcare industry and the US government would be quickly become overloaded and ineffectual. Commerce [financial transportation produce energy industries] could slow down considerably, become intermittent, or come to a complete standstill. If infected or not, most in this country would have to find a way to survive on their own. Once this very dangerous Ebola virus goes viral and out of control the results will be devastating to many millions of Americans on all fronts.

Hope

As I have stated previously, it is not only that Ebola has the potential to kill a lot of people (as an RNA virus that can mutate as it passes through humans + we really have no fookin idea of its transmissibility), it is the OVERREACTION of our “authorities” that may prove the most lethal to our civil liberties and freedoms.

From ZH: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-10-15/dallas-commissioners-will-declare-state-disaster-tomorrow-over-ebola-fears

*DALLAS COMMISSIONERS TO DECLARE LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER TOMORROW: NBC-TV
*DALLAS COUNTY CONSIDERS DECLARING STATE OF DISASTER FROM EBOLA
*DALLAS DISASTER DECLARATION WOULD ACTIVATE EMERGENCY PLAN

Natch, the details of their “Emergency Plan” are not divulged.

From The People’s Republic of Connecticut: http://www.necn.com/news/new-england/Connecticut-Governor-Declares-State-of-Emergency-Over-Ebola-as-a-Precaution-278380851.html

Their Governor signed an order that gives the …”Department of Public Health the authority to quarantine and isolate people whom the commissioner “reasonably believes has been exposed to the Ebola virus”.”

This from a state with zero cases of Ebola and few West Africans, being the White Guilted Liberal Paradise of Gated Communities.

And finally, in one of the most striking examples of Liberal Lunacy, the CDC sees fit to restrict the airline travel of US citizens merely suspected of being in contact with the disease and not the West Africans coming from the global Ground Zero for this disease.

“We will, from this moment forward, ensure that no individual monitored for exposure undergoes travel in any way other than controlled movement,” Frieden said Wednesday.

And, finally, we know what all that ammo, SWAT gear, MRAPs, machine guns, etc, that the fed.gov has been purchasing for the last 6 years for all their alphabet agencies is really for:

“President Obama has directed the Centers for Disease Control to dispatch rapid response “SWAT teams” of Ebola experts to any local hospital with an infected patient within 24 hours.”

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/10/15/obama-ebola-campaign-trip-postponed/17304339/

Mebbe I have my tinfoil cowboy hat on too tight, but this whole Ebola thing sounds like a great way to suspend elections, since the Dems are clearly facing a blowout in November.

After all, it looks like this is what has happened in Libera this year. http://news.yahoo.com/ebola-hit-liberia-cancels-nationwide-election-135505061.html

The Dems will merely wait until Ebola kills off enought people, thus surging their voter rolls and ability to stuff the ballot box. Never let a crisis go to waste.

If Nigeria and Senegal can stop Ebola, so can the U.S.:

“NIGERIA
Lone traveler enters from Liberia on July 20. Patient collapsed in the arrival hall of Lagos airport with symptoms of Ebola. Traveler was admitted to a private hospital and confirmed to have Ebola.

Outcome: Patient exposed 72 people at the airport and hospital. In total, 894 contacts were identified for all the cases. About 18,500 face-to-face visits were conducted by contact tracers. Eleven patients were discharged, and eight died.”

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/10/15/1336819/-If-Nigeria-and-Senegal-can-stop-Ebola-so-can-the-US-with-some-health-policy-tweaking

18,500 contact tracings! That’s how it’s done! Circle the wagons, and no one gets out of isolation.

Hope – if it wasn’t so damn serious, it’d be comical. What a bunch of clowns. It’s almost as if they are “trying” to spread this disease.

And there’s a lot of money at stake in these three African countries – a whole bunch of multinational corporations are making an absolute fortune. They don’t want things to grind to a halt. Most likely why the military is getting in there, because of the monied interests.

Maybe we should get the Nigerians to run our Ebola program.

From what I’ve read Ebola is very selective. Normally people with rh- negative blood cannot contract viruses. Obama thinks he’s protected, he thinks he’s AB negative blood group. I highly doubt it! Obama bring an infected person into the WHITE HOUSE and lets see if you live if you get the serum. Its a rhesus monkey disease, I’d love to see you honestly live thought it. PROVE TO US YOU ARE TRUELY AB NEGATIVE!

One couldn’t do a more complete job of destroying the country if you tried unless it’s your intent was to fundamentally change the US. in which case, looks to be right on schedule. So yes keep those borders open and get the job done.

From another blogger:

“If you like your ebola, you can keep your ebola.”

“We have to catch ebola before we can find out what’s in it, away from the fog of controversy. ”

“What difference does it make if you have ebola?”

This You Tube by Stephen Moleneaux is exceptional. Especially well put together is his argument that U.S. Welfare/Foreign Aid to these 3rd world countries has brought about crowded cities where disease thrives rather than dying out in countries where the tribes are spread out and the diseases can be contained. The logical conclusions that superstition kills and that racism of any form when society is threatened is stupid is also well presented.
