Two Bums? One Bum? No Bums?

“What a fucking loser!”

“ANYBODY can get a job washing dishes, drying cars at a car wash! He’s not trying enough!”

“All I hear is EXCUSES!! Get off your ass!!”

“Quit bitching about your life, and do something!”

“YOU made bad choices that led to your current situation. Learn to accept responsibility.”

The above are comments made on youtube.

Here’s what I have to say; — “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”   I must be some kind of libtard, socialist, do-gooder, guilt infested whitefuk hypocrite …. cuz I feel sorry for both men.

What say YOU about these two men?

BUM #1

BUM #2

The amount of jobs continues to decrease, hence why the labor participation rate plummets.

If your qualifications are too good, employers expect you’ll leave quickly or they’ll have to pay you too much.

Oh, & Stucky, you’re being a caring human, unlike the assholes I meet daily that think because they have a good job, everyone should.

These 2 guys are worth more than the Prez, who never worked a real job his whole life.

You hear all this BS about the shortage of engineers in the U.S. and this bright pebble is in a homeless shelter. I know you have been on top of world Stucky, but I also know the world has been on top of you a few times, it is scary and it really humbles a person.

I watch the middle class lifestyle evaporating for lots of people, and I really hurt inside for them, it is plainful to watch someones station in life going away. I have a few realitves that live on less than 15,000 per year. That panhandler sounds like he is lucky to live on 7,000. a year.

That’s my thought exactly: there but for the Grace of God go I.

I have met a number of people like these guys on the streets of this city. They are always polite, never threatening. They have taken more crap in any one year than a lot of us do our whole lives.

And any of us, given a long enough stretch of joblessness, could end up where they are.

The whole thing makes me want to downsize to a one-room “tiny house” somewhere where there are no property taxes, and bury my money under the house.

There are plenty of professional con-men out there, but also a host of genuine suffering souls who want a life with work and purpose in it. Even if the economic case for a public works program is shaky, at best, something that offers these men the dignity of work might be what our political economy requires to turn things around. I’d rather have a latter-day CCC consuming my tax dollars than more bombs for peace.

Chicago999444 – The whole thing makes me want to downsize to a one-room “tiny house” somewhere where there are no property taxes,..

And when you find that place where you can in actuality own the property you diligently worked to pay for, please let me know, cuz’ I’m right behind you.

Bum #1 isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he seems like a decent human being. My answer for these folks is a shelter (either private or public) where the sheltered MUST give value back for value received. If he were to have that opportunity and seized it, not a bum. If he won’t give that avenue a shot, assuming it were there, then he’s a bum. Status: inconclusive.

Bum #2 is a really tough ticket. Kudos to him for sacrificing so much for his parents. He’s clearly bright and well spoken. But a PhD in physics and a Master’s in electrical engineering, and he lives in a BOSTON homeless shelter? Damn, Boston is one of the highest of high tech areas in the entire country.

Something’s wrong here. Maybe he’s overselling himself. Maybe he thinks some jobs are beneath his perceived status. Maybe he should answer some of the fucking 14 emails that he claims are on his phone. I need more info. Status: inconclusive.

So here’s the answer to the 3 questions, “Two Bums? One Bum? No Bums?” Yes.

I agree with many TBPers views on the “FSA”, but really, when you look at the amount of “free shit” the gov directly hands out to “the people”, it’s miniscule compared with the amount spent on needless wars, military equipment, and just downright bullshit. If we cut way down on our imperialism, regulated Wall St, and broke up the monopoly companies, the average lifestyle in the U.S. could be a lot better. And guys like this would have jobs because commerce would likely improve.
I don’t hear much talk like this out of D.C.

Economan: Right you are. Another problem is that everyplace is filled up with foreigners. I’m temping at a place that is mostly Russians and my SO is temping at a place which is most Pakistani/Indian. There was a time when this country was young and this level of immigration worked-that time has LONG since passed. This needs to stop when we don’t have enough jobs for the people that are BORN here. End the H1 Visa program. ONLY the best should be accepted from other countries, doctors, scientists, mathematicians, not wage slaves who have nothing to offer US but their desire for US jobs and money.

Bum# 2 Me thinks there is way too much of a back story missing on this guy. Maybe he has 23 kids and on back child support and cannot report an income because if he does, it gets swallowed up. In which case, he would be in jail right? ….I don’t know…some people may not want to divulge such information…

I have been broke as a joke in my lifetime and I never went to a homeless shelter. I have more wealth than most of this planets inhabitants without benefit of higher education. That can be attributed to hard work and being smarter than the average bear. Never asked for handouts like the FSA. Get a job sir.

If either of these guys were part of a healthy Christian community (one that seriously follows the teachings of Jesus) they would not be on the street.
