I had a long drawn out conversation with my uber liberal cousin over the weekend about gay marriage, we chose marriage as our starting point in our new series on understanding libertarian beliefs. She thinks of me as a republican lite.

I tried and I tried, it went right over her head, or through her brain washed cranium, I tried to explain the difference between a natural right and a legal right, and that no one, including the government can take away a natural right, unless we allow it to happen.

She can not give up the notion that we must abide by the states laws until such time we can vote in a politician that will change their laws.
To her, and many like her, political power is THE power we must all bow to, not the other way around.

Gay marriage applies to about 2.3 percent of the population. Basically a non issue, as long as I dont have to be involved.

This libertarian ‘stuff’ is bullshit. All they do is spoil elections for Republicans (whom they are most like). Since it’s a two party system, the libertarians should work within the Republican party to make it more libertarian.

Actually it doesn’t matter at all. I’m waiting for the extinction asteroid.

Dutchman ,right on .Those libertarians always Fuck it up for republicans. A vote for a libertarian is a vote for the democrats.

The choice is pretty clear if you want change from the status quo, since the Dems & GOP are aligned on some many issues. Problem is, we really do have a 2 party system in this country. TPTB don’t even recognize the Libertarian candidates as being “viable”.

If republicans were smart, they would work with libertarians.
