One Reader’s Shocked Response Upon Learning His Health Insurance Cost Just Doubled

Not only are Obamacare premiums skyrocketing for working Americans, the deductibles on these policies are so fucking high that people who live paycheck to paycheck (the majority) could never pay the deductible if they have a major illness. Douchebags like Obama, Gruber and any dyke on MSNBC never talk about the outrageously high deductibles as they blather about the joys of Obamacare. And remember, Obama delayed all the really bad shit until after the mid-term elections by Executive order. Guess what? The elections are over and 2015 has arrived. Bend over for your eternal Obamacare proctology exam with a cold finger.

Tyler Durden's picture

From a reader

ZH:

My wife and I own a small business and we had previously (in 2013)  been buying health insurance on our own for ourselves and our two kids.  The cost was about six hundred per month with a $5200 deductible, $6800 total out of pocket exposure for the family of four.

After spending months trying to register for the ACA in late 2013 and early 2014 my kids got put on our state’s insurance (at “no cost”) and my wife and I bagged an ACA policy at a subsidized cost of $281 per month with a total out of pocket of about $6500 (just for the two of us).

Attached is the ACA notification of next year’s price increase.  As you can see the cost goes from $281 to $555, a monthly increase of $274, a percentage increase of 97%.

Basically we are now paying the same amount for the two of us that we paid for all four of us one year ago.

How can that increase occur in a “free market” economy?  Did I miss something? Has some input cost leaped exponentially in order to double the price I pay? Or has private industry colluded with government to rig the markets (again) in their favor?

How much longer will the American people allow corporations to rip them off in collusion with the government?  Fuck this bogus economy and government captured by corporations.  Where is the leader who will rise up from the masses and snuff out the corp/govt nexus before it imprisons us all in debt serfdom police state?

Do you think for one minute that freaking Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner or anyone newly elected or previously elected cares one shit about my wife and kids or what we pay for crappy health care that we cannot afford to access due to high deductibles?  Those fucks cannot see beyond the next donor phone call, and only come clucking out of the hen house in order to give voice to the latest party certified political meme, be it ‘freedom’, ‘liberty’, ‘security” or some other hollowed out focus group tested bullshit sound bite.

Don’t forget, when you become too poor to afford healthcare you get to pay a fine for being poor.

I can’t wait to hear the Obama voting millennials “embracing the suck”. It’s a hard lesson to learn so early in life but perhaps they’ll start decorating lamp posts with with republican politicians to celebrate!

I’m guessing the guy didn’t have a single fucking complaint when he foisted his kids off to be paid “for free” by the state and was further subsidized by the taxpayer for the first year of obummercare. He likely didn’t say shit when the bezzle worked in his favor, but is mad now that he’s on the receiving end of the ass-raping. This is precisely what’s wrong with this country. Fuck that guy, and fuck everyone else who goes along as long as they “get mines.”

This one my actually get knocked down by Justice Roberts. That is if don’t have something on him , like a relationship with Krugman.

There is additional information other then Gruber that explicitly gives a reason for the subsides for state exchanges being set up.

Otherwise, they will have no one but sick people in their pools. No one can be forced to pay something they can’t afford.

Here in Massachusetts tens of thousands of people were automatically signed up for free Mass Health if they were unable to navigate the broken multimillion web portal that was created to supersede an already working much less expensive system that was already in place. Bureaucracy at its best. Many of these people had existing policies that they were paying for and were not looking for a free ride, but Massachusetts in its desperation to cover up the incompetence of the people running the new system decided it was easier to give away coverage for free instead of fixing the system on a timely basis. I guess they are not concerned since its not their money.

Not one Republican voted for Obamacare and if the mess gets repaired it will be the Republicans who make it happen.

Is there a difference between the two party’s ? Hell yes there is. Democrats are unable to Govern. Americas five most Indebted States are the bluest of the blue Democratic strong holds and there’s a reason for that. Liberal politics doesn’t work and never will.

2012 numbers
The annual Best and Worst Run States in America survey by 24/7 Wall St. came out today, revealing that the top 5 states are led by Republicans while the bottom five are dominated by Democrats.

“Where is the leader who will rise up from the masses and snuff out the corp/govt nexus before it imprisons us all in debt serfdom police state?”

Heh…

Where has this guy been?

The system is rigged against anyone of such mettle rising up and leading the pig-ignorant iCrap douchebags to any “Promised Land” or enlightening them to the peril they are currently in…

Anyone who takes the time to try and explain how monumentally fucked we are is hooted down as an extremist, an alarmist, a “potential terr-rist”, a doomer, insane, suffering from a break with reality, senile, old, etc, etc…

Only after the hammer has fallen and people will be confused and afraid, looking for solid, strong leadership will it be time for such a man to step up and actually lead people…

And, unfortunately, it will take a great deal of suffering, misery and death for that to happen. And it will happen, sooner or later. It’s just a question of “when”. That, and if “A reader” survives long enough to see it happen…

Interestingly, by asking if there is a leader who will rise up, the reader has already – in his mind – ruled himself out as the one who steps up. Which is the default setting of humanity – followers. Looking for someone else to make the tough decisions and, more importantly, take responsibility for making those tough decisions off “a reader’s” shoulders…. he wants things to be fixed for him, not fix them himself… that way, when and if something blows up in his face, “a reader” can stand back and point an accusing finger…

In reality, most people wouldn’t spend $6500 a year on healthcare if they just paid for services out-of-pocket. The only insurance they need would be catastrophic coverage.

But then that would substantially reduce a billion-dollar industry and impact the hundreds of thousands of workers it employs. Not to mention the legions of government regulators, tax collectors and others who benefit from that industry. Which is why government has no onus to change a damn thing.

bb, you have to much faith in Republicans. They won’t do anything about this. TPTB have arranged things so that they cannot overide a veto even if they were inclined.(They are not). I wish I knew what the answer was but I don’t. SHTF may be our only hope.

Fuck that whiny bitch complaining about his $555 subsidized monthly premium! How about the many more people who don’t get a subsidy and have to pay the full $1,217 premium (or more)? And those unsubsidized premiums aren’t going up in spite of Obamacare, they’re going up BECAUSE of Obamacare. Where does this dumb fuck think the subsidies are coming from? Even leaving out surcharges on capital gains taxes, etc., the medical device tax alone ($30 billion per year) and the tax on insurance companies’ gross premium receipts are directly added into everyone’s premiums. I don’t give a fuck about people buying their insurance through a federal or state exchange. I’m more concerned about the other 300 million of us.

Hi John Shiloh,

Were you around when Slick Willie was getting his dick sucked everyday in the oval office?

When your savior was golfing while Americans were being killed and beheaded?

When Holder was saying Banks were To Big To prosecute?

When Obama was calling Sandra Fluke and congratulating her for be so noble and courageous as to tell us we should pay for her contraceptives so she could get gang banged every day.

There are volumes more but I will stop here for the sake of brevity.

That’s what’s inconsiderate and rude; dear gentle, fragile, sensitive and oh so good and refined soul.

Commenting on the negative votes that Sensetti received I hope TBP’ers understand that without “teachable” Republicans at the fedgov level there isn’t any hope for the Republic. Maybe there isn’t any anyway but there sure as hell isn’t without Senators like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz. If you believe it’s truly hopeless why waste your time on internet sites like this one. Stand with Rand and BC-LR to all

Hi Stucky, Nothing major about it Stucky, we were never what you would call close friends or mutual admirers of one another’s views.

It is a very long story, to involved to get into here and sort of personal, so I would rather not go into it.

Suffice it to say, I have currently left the diner, It pained me to do so. Spent close to three years there and was the top poster I had become so involved. Met some wonderful people and made a lot of friends,

Like all things I find in life, things make a change, for the worse it seems. I tried to live with the changes and couldn’t so just packed up and left. Trying to establish my presence here now. Thanks for your interest Stucky

Slime ball got his kids ‘free insurance’ – yeah free to him – not free to the tax payers.

I’m self employed – BCBS with a $2000 deductible for my wife and I (both 65) is over $1500 a month.

A couple of comments:

#1. It’s not health insurance, it’s anti-bankruptcy insurance. If you don’t have a lot of money / assets – you can just go bankrupt.

#2 if you weren’t paying somewhere around $750 a month for a 40 yr/old couple – then you had shit insurance anyway.

#3. It’s all a fuckin’ scam. If nobody had insurance hospitals would have to lower their prices – maybe by 80%.

Large self funded employers have known this all along.
That is why many start at $50,000 or even $100,000 per person with stop-loss coverage, and insuring all claims below the $50,000 or $100,000 per person.
We are making available to self funded employers the option of putting some of their reserves in our small pot, in whch we pay claims with a zero deductible. We guarantee an annual return of 35% or more on their contributions. As most employers want to have their reserves as low as possible at year end to free up more dollars for business investment, their large pot of reserves must remain liquid. This need for liquidity lowers their returns to 2 or 3%.

Imagine your reserves growing in 2 pots – one at 2-3%; the other at 35% or more.
Our pot of reserves for that employer grows significantly, while their large pot reduces each year.
Result: significant savings, lower premiums going into reserves, and lower reserves, resulting in more money for business investment and for employee benefits..

I’ll tell you how much a scam it is: I get a blood test at the doc’s. I get a bill for $92 – doc didn’t include my BCBS insurance number. I got that fixed up. Then I get a corrected bill from the lab: $18.00 that’s right – a fucking $74 discount because I have BCBS.

Think of the scam – this blood test was marked up 500% – and I bet they are still making 100% at $18.

The markup on health services is usury!

Wait till they get more of the story than just the rise in premiums.

My doctor packed it in and retired, what fun I had getting a new one, called over a dozen and that was a few years ago. Imagine what it is going to be like now. Every Dr around my area has signs up, not accepting new patients, or has sold out to a hospital to work for a salary,

The Savior will be golfing and laughing when it all happens and the outrage hits.

One more time I am eternally grateful to whatever power outside myself that led me to question, research and now, turn my back on our modern “health” care system.

Taking tens of thousands of dollars in pills a year to cover up/reduce symptoms while directly destroying other parts of your body is not HEALTH.

As for the rest, who’d thunk that FREE would cost so much?

Oh, that’s right, WE DID.

Once again I miss AWD, a doc that had to sell out to a hospital to stay in business, and that happened a long time ago.

So, we get to pay $10k a year for insurance we can’t use until we spend an additional $6k.

THIS is why financial reporting and wages continue to appear ok. Imagine the REAL LIFE increase in insurance/pharmacy company revenues (with little mention) occurring at the same exact time as shrinkage in retail. Coincidence? I think not.

Sold a bill of goods, sold a bad plan, sold out.

At least the poor get free shit and the rich get richer.

As for the rest of us, good freaking luck. And get healthy, really healthy, it is truly all we have left to bank on.
