It might be me but I do not see a list.
Bob,

harry p.

Boatonbob
It’s all there, they are listed from 0 to 00

In reality they do some things “effectively” (instead of “well” because that would imply goodness):
1. Murder
2. Steal (tax, emiment domain etc)
3. Destroy freedom
4. Enrich those who serve it

PeaceOut

Not a freakin’ thing except get in the way of every aspect of our lives!

Thanks Harry, went over my head, I guess I need another cup of coffee.

HA!

I knew it was going to be a pretty short list.

Hope

1. Make War.

2. Destroy personal responsibility, initiative, liberty and sanity.

3. Enmesh their citizens in crippling debt, strangling regulations and a suffocating bureaucracy.

4. Create a police state.

Ok, I’ll be the fly in the ointment.

The Panama Canal Company USED to make a profit, but we gave the canal away, so that doesn’t count any more.

Today, the U.S. Mint makes a (sharply declining) profit, which it turns over to the U.S. Treasury. Last I looked, the profit was around $400 million a year and comes from things like the sale of numismatic items, gold and silver bullion coins, and minting coins for foreign countries.

That’s pretty much the whole list. See, it’s not as bad as you thought. Heh.

@SSS: “The US Mint”

What a fuckin’ scam – turning out shit they sell to niggas in Jersey at 2:00 am. But wait… there’s more – get a second set – just pay additional shipping and handling. These coins are handsomely plated with 4 nanograms of 24 caret gold! And come in a real mahogany veneered cardboard box.

Fuck the Mint!

Ok SSS, I’ll bite. Why is the profit at the US Mint declining sharply? I’ve not looked at the numbers myself but sales have been through the fucking roof at the Mint according to the numismatic blogs I follow. They even make money on circulating coins in the form or seigniorage. Every circulating coin made has a face value higher than metal content and all circulating coins except the penny and nickel have face values well in excess of cost to manufature, so much so that all the hyperbole about the Mint losing money by making them is bullshit. Yeah if they only made pennies and nickels they’d lose money.

Head on over to http://www.coinflation.com/ and scroll down to the first chart to see current circulating coin values. The second chart down pertains to silver coinage. Both are updated live throughout the day.

US Mint sales are setting records and profits are not sharply declining but I stand prepared to be wrong! I’ve long said that the US Mint is the ONLY part of govt that makes money……..both literally and in terms of profit.

SSS

“What a fuckin’ scam (the U.S.Mint).”
—-Dutchman @ SSS

Don’t know whether you are kidding or not, but the U.S. Mint, a government monopoly of course, makes stuff that people and other governments buy. Its gold and silver bullion coins, .999 pure, are a huge hit with precious metal buyers around the world, as are its commemoratives, proof sets, and uncirculated sets with coin collectors, mainly in the U.S.

And the mint has profitable contracts with some foreign governments to make their coinage. The mint is noted for making coins of high quality, exacting standards, and durability. I know that may sound shocking, but it’s true.

The USG has mint operations in Philadelphia, home of the first mint plant, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point NY. Politics stayed out of U.S. coins until 1909, when the Lincoln penny was introduced. Washington came next on the 1932 quarter, followed by Jefferson on the 1938 nickel and FDR on the 1946 dime. As you know, those men still endure on U.S. coins.

Wow Dutchman! You. Can’t. Be. That. Stupid. The US MInt does not “plate” anything. Late night infomercials are rotting your brain!

You’re on top of things and mostly correct. Yes, pennies and nickels lose money due to higher prices of the metals to make them.

The key issue is demand. While I touted the popularity of certain mint products, Joe Six-Pack’s purchase of them has fallen off a cliff. The mint made over $1 billion in profit in 2007. That dropped to $400 million in 2010. Duh. Even Admin could figure out why that happened. And continues to happen albeit on a lesser basis.

More confirmation of how the middle class is getting royally screwed.

The government is extremely good at taking from those that produce and giving to those that do not.

The only thing they are good at will in the end destroy the country. Imagine that.

SSS said:

That link I provided shows that metal content alone is not higher than one penny or one nickel respectively. When you add in labor and tooling, costs exceed face value for those two coins. All other circulating coins generate 8.4 cents to 94.8 cents per coin.

Regarding numismatic coins, Joe Six Pack is buying in quantity. Popular offerings continue to sell out in record time, often just hours. Bullion gold and silver sales are setting all time records so I fail to see how they have sharply declining profits based on sales.

I’d be interested in seeing annual profit numbers but I’m off to work!

Stop arguing. “The alloy (of a penny) remained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper.”

Got that? The price of zinc has DOUBLED from 50 cents per pound to over a dollar since the mid 2000s.

Further, I’M Joe Six-Pack. I stopped buying mint products in 2010, precisely when mint profits tanked. Your assertion that Joe is “buying in quantity” is total bullshit. As is the “popular products” statement. The mint is NOT making very many popular products. It’s making shit like the First Ladies series.

I know this niche market. Stop arguing.

@SSS: Ahh, Dude, ya know I hate the government but I don’t necessarily hate the people that work for government. I was at the NIH for 2 years as a fed.gov employee before I went to medical school and I met some AMAZING people.

My problem is with the MANAGEMENT of government cuz it was my experience that the most worthless, ass kissing pieces of shit MFer’s, douchebags that rose to the top. LIke shit in the toilet bowel.

There is something seriously wrong with Human Nature that allows otherwise pretty good people to fall for the lies/charisma/happygas lies of the sociopaths that eventually rule us.

Bruce
Bruce

Well I hate government as much as anyone but I can see two things at least that have been of great benefit to us.

There is the USGS that is a very valuable resource and made tons of knowledge available to everyone and anyone.

The Texas Railroad Commission is a state regulatory agency over the oil and gas business. They regulate the industry but have an efficient means to gain exception to most things as long as sound reasoning and data are presented. The regulations they have made make sense.

The massive amount of information and records these agencies organize, maintain and provide is outstanding. Their value far exceeds their cost. It would be more expensive and difficult to operate without them than it is with them. These two agencies may not seem to be important to all citizens but if you have used any form of hydrocarbon for fuel or used products that are derived from or made possible because of mining or mineral extraction over the years they have been very positive factors in all our lives.

Should we dismantle the Federal government and reduce state governments some useful and publicly beneficial government agencies should be maintained and funded in some manner by the people for the people. When all is considered as in many areas probably 80% of Federal, State and Local government is bullshit and 20% truly worth having.

Kill the bankers (and this means actually putting them and their kin to death) and get rid of the politicians by whatever means pleases the people and we will be cleared to actually make some positive headway. Of course that won’t happen and sooner or later the SHTF,. Then chaos reigns supreme. Wild anarchy and brutal, horrific, unbridled and unaccountable freedom will devour the people. And that’s without any famine, natural disasters or pandemics thrown into the mix. We are triple dog doomed.

That is why there needs to be term limits on ALL government workers. Elected, appointed, or employed. They all need to go after a certain term of service. Otherwise the ass kissers, butt suckers, and psychopaths take over. 10 years max…then get the fuck out and produce something that adds value!

SSS

“That is why there needs to be term limits on ALL government workers……..10 years max…then get the fuck out and produce something that adds value!”

Would you apply that reasoning to military pilots? Initial training alone is a multi-million dollar expense per pilot. Then there’s upgrade training in the aircraft you’re assigned to fly after pilot training. Another million-plus expense. By the time you’ve got a fully qualified pilot in sophisticated and expensive aircraft such as the F-15, F-18, or F-22 fighters, it’s been more than two years of training costing several million dollars for each and every pilot.

Is it more cost-effective to bounce that pilot out after 10 years, or do you get more bang for the buck with 20 or 30 years total service? You do the math and let me know.

Government is good at claiming ownership to and enslaving us for everything God has given to the people on this earth to survive. Land, water, air, minerals, food, our children, our own bodies, our minds. They do their best to capture our souls, and mostly do a good job of kicking God out of our consciousness for the purpose of our enslavement to them.
