I believe that historic hotel still exists. You should inquire as to the current price for such a spread.

Not me, the older sounded quite interesting.

I notice the oysters and little necks are missing from the new one, as well as the Lobster Salad.

The 60 times never tells the whole story, does it? Always much more Hidden Inflation if you look for it.

not only was it 60x cheaper it was all Non Gmo Food, todays food is filled with toxic substances, so you are now paying 60x more to poison yourself

I’m sure not everyone ate everything on that menu, so 50 cents did not buy all of that food.

I remember my father telling me that back around that time he got one penny a week for his allowance (he had ten brothers and sisters, and they were not rich). What people don’t consider is that wages were also low back then, like 20 cents per hour. My grandfather’s 1800 sq ft house with attic and cellar, brand new, cost $3,000 in 1912.

Everything is relative, high wages go with high prices, low wages go with low prices – that much stays the same. Interesting menu nonetheless.

That original menu rocks! I can live without beets and coconut cake and Chow Chow if made with cauliflower but other than that, bring it on! The new menu looks great too and for $30 it’s no wonder you need reservations!

  9. sebastian says:

Another way to compare the price difference: .50cents in 1909 might be paid in either 2 quarters or 5 dimes of the time period. Those coins were made of real 90% silver and would have totaled about 1/2 ounce. An ounce of silver today is ‘worth’, by price manipulation, about $16.34. So this “.50cent” bounty of food would cost, relatively speaking, about $ 8.17cents in purchasing power of the coins of the time period, not

You really cannot compare the “.50cents” of 1909, real money, with the fiat coins of today.

    Happy Thanksgiving to All.

I LOVE roasted homeless children with plastic FEMA breading but you have to take ‘em out before they turn to ash. Gravy helps.

I’m off to ’21’ for a late evening Thanksgiving dinner.
The price is a bit more spendy than it was
for dinner at Hotel Gettysburg 105 years ago.
But, with the money pouring in these days,
what’s $200+ a person for dinner and drinks
when one can eat well and recognize and
be recognized by America’s best people?
    The ad language is below…

Admin, there is a prob with wordpress. I have cookies and javascript disabled and the name and mail fields are filled in with names and email addresses that are not mine.

Personally my gravatar is linked to a gmail account that is no longer existent, but I do expect quite a few users to get spammed.

To those it effects, if you are not logged in WP will, sometimes, pre-enter the last user to post on that thread, so this is posting as @s Gordon, but it’s actually TE.

This has happened for years. I blame WordPress, as many of us know WP ES.

Now you know, register and sign in or deal with this glitch occasionally, I guess. It’s been happening for at least four years, so I’m guessing it, like so many others, aren’t on the WP radar of critical issues.

    Happy Thanksgiving All!
