From what I’ve read, the Western Ukraine was never really a full part of the Soviet Union. I read into the mid-1950s, the Soviet army and NKVD were still fighting in the Western Ukraine against anti-Soviet/pro-Nazi partisans. I read one group, apparently shocked the US and NATO when they fought their way out of the Ukraine, through Poland and Czechoslovakia to the West many years after the war. It’s no surprise their grandkids haven’t changed much.
All of the self-righteous commenters here should try living in Putin’s Russia, and see if they don’t want to be anti-Soviet Nazis afterwards.
