PUTIN WILL NOT BE BACKING DOWN

Russia not attacking west, just defending its interests – Putin

Published time: December 18, 2014 11:03

Russia is protecting its national interests, but it not attacking any western nations politically, Russian President Vladimir Puitn said.

Putin said that the only contribution Russia made toward the current period of tension “is an increasingly strong stance in defending its national interests.”

“We are not attacking anyone in the political sense,” he said. “We are only defending our interests… The displeasure of our Western partners, particularly the Americans, comes from that.”

Russia’s actions, described as aggressive in the West, are a response to what Western nations are doing, Putin said.

“Russia in the 1990s completely stopped the long-range bomber flights that the Soviet Union used to carry out,” he said. “But American strategic bombers with nuclear weapons still flew. Why? Against whom? Who was being threatened?”

Putin’s comments came in response to a question from the BBC’s veteran world news editor, John Simpson, who asked Putin whether the current crisis in relations between Russia and the West was a result of Russia’s aggression. Simpson cited the increased patrols of the Russian Air Force in international airspace as an example of such aggression. The exchange happened at Putin’s annual Q&A session in Moscow.

The US has been ignoring Russian interests despite Moscow’s complaining about this many times, the president said.

“Take the anti-ballistic missile system. Who unilaterally withdrew from the ABM Treaty, which was a cornerstone of the international security system? Was that us? No, the US did it. They unilaterally withdrew and are creating threats toward us,” Putin said.

Unlike the United States, which has dozens of military bases around the world, Russia has only two, Putin said. And those are in places where Russia’s national security is directly threatened, in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the president said.

“And you are telling now that we have an aggressive policy? Do you have common sense? Do we place our troops at US borders? Who is placing NATO troops, military infrastructure closer to us? Does anyone listen to us, talk to us about it? No, nothing. There is always the same response: it’s not your business,” Putin said.

Putin added that Russia simply wants to be treated as equal partners by the West.

“We want to develop normal relations on security, counterterrorism. We will work together on nuclear non-proliferation. We will work on threats like illegal drugs, organized crime, dangerous infectious diseases, including Ebola. We will do it all together as we will cooperate on the economy, as long as our partners want that,” Putin said.

Russia will never give up Crimea, never. Russia did not start this, remember Victoria Nuland got caught with her panties down fomenting the uprising in the region? It’s all about oil and natural gas.

On Zerohedge yesterday ……… China to bail out Russia

Russia could fall back on its 150 billion yuan (HK$189.8 billion) currency swap agreement with China if the rouble continues to plunge.

If the swap deal is activated for this purpose, it would mark the first time China is called upon to use its currency to bail out another currency in crisis. The deal was signed by the two central banks in October, when Premier Li Keqiang visited Russia.

“Russia badly needs liquidity support and the swap line could be an ideal tool,” said Bank of Communications chief economist Lian Ping. The swap allows the central banks to directly buy yuan and rouble in the two currencies, rather than via the US dollar.

T4C,

Is that a observation or a testimonial of Putsy’s staying power?

Could you see Obama doing a three and one half hour presser with no prompts, pre-screened questions and no fawning toadies in the audience. I would pay to see him sweat that out.
Bob.

Putin won’t threaten, he’ll do. That alone gives him a nearly consistent ‘first-mover’ advantage.

Yes. And much, much more than just that.

“And the goals of this war are clear: it is to undermine Russia economically, destroy it politically, dismember it geographically, and turn it into a pliant vassal state that furnishes natural resources to the West practically free of charge.” ———– Dmitri Orlov

The Brics are now actually larger economies than the West.

The BRICs have banded together to help stave off Benny/Yelly’s printing presses and Pelosi, Boehner, Cheney, Bush and Obama’s spending. That they became bigger than us by using Gingrich’s and Clinton’s and Greenspan’s “helpful” laws, treaties, reversals of laws and open borders with graft from their pockets to the CEOs and now and then the “shareholders.” Sure as HELL not the common Westerner.

So, if Russia decides to start using the world’s largest economy’s fiat, instead of the world’s warmongering and fading one, why would this be a surprise to anyone? And, it will just solidify the Brics and their already strengthening stand.

The West is built on social promises that cannot ever be met, spending that has no basis in financial reality, crony-capitalism and/or do-gooder/people control, yet we still “look down” on the East.

We have had our centuries in the sun, as did they in their former glories. I get the feeling history is going to rhyme again.

Meanwhile, we will be whipped into war frenzy to cover up and alleviate the coming horrors.

Russia meanwhile, with their apartment gardens, open trade with China (which, btw, controls many, many, layers of the world’s supply chains. all they have to do is stop filling cargo containers and start filling rail cars and we would be fuked), and actual resources owned by the country will be just fine in the end.

The worst thing the Russian people could do is to allow the overthrow of Putin. I tend to believe they know that.

We are playing a game that worked great in the past when we were on top of the world. We haven’t been there for a long, long, time now and the only people that don’t recognize that seems to be us.

I’m sure it will work out fine. For somebody. Maybe us, maybe not. Either way will be interesting, no?

Don’t see how that can possibly happen.

In Russia …. Putin is more popular than sex.

In USA!USA!USA! ….. Obama is barely more popular than ebola.

“Where’s your car article?” ——— Admin

I planned on finishing just before Christmas, on Tuesday … give people some holiday cheer to read.

But, I will do all I can to have it done by Saturday, the latest.

It will be, by far, my longest article to date. So, far about 30 cars …. people can read it in small chunks. Think of it as 30 small articles, not one gigantic one.

I know which cars will be featured and I have all the pics. Still have research to do on about half of them. I’ll try for tomorrow … but, as I said, will do my best to make it no later than Saturday.

@Stuck, don’t say that is any Urban Jungle. THERE he is still popular even as the people suffer.

Watched the same EXACT behavior when Coleman Young (and Kwalme Kilpatrick) were Mayors of De’toilet.

As their city burned, their children bled, their jobs fled, they blamed the people that didn’t live/work in their city and DEIFIED their black leaders.

The entire country is no different. We will support those that tell us what we want to hear, blame the demons they tell us to, and never, ever, question that our cold children and grumbling stomachs are 100% the fault of the rich, evil, fucks that rule us and harvest our labors, our health, and our very souls.

Other than that, right on. I don’t think Russians are stupid at all. And as a Norse-descendent, the Ruskies are closer in genetics to me than most, they are my kin and I pray they are able to resist and thrive around our evilness and warmongering.

“I can’t wait to read about my 1971 green Ford Falcon …” ——- Admin

Wow. The ’71 Falcon was one of the cars in the essay. Yup. I don’t want to keep you waiting .

comment image

The 1971 Ford Falcon marked the beginning of a marketing strategy at Ford Motors know by the slogan “What the fuck were you thinking?” … the same group that designed a car known as “Blowme”, later renamed Pinto. In 1971 cars such as TransAm, Corvette, and Ford’s Mustang were guaranteed to get the driver a nice piece of ass. Conversely, Falcon drivers were the smartest kids in college as it was a virtual guarantee that they would never ever get any pussy. By their senior year such students often resorted to Deranged Masturbation. Upon graduation, 99% became accountants. Due to years of making poor purchasing decisions, these people would buy even more retarded cars as adults … like a Prius.

The list is pretty much composed of cars with production runs of under 500.

Guns or butter. Or as they say in the case of Russia , guns or oil. As a practical matter what will Putin use to pay for the military and internal security apparatus?

Not for nothing, that goes for government spending of all nations including the state of Texas once oil prices drop.

I just think once the levee breaks on an oil Cartel that oil production will ramp up not down. As desperate governments need more volu,me to make up for the declining price.

Stucky,
Too funny, I now have coffee all over my keyboard. My first car was a 1969 Mercury Cougar convertible. 351 small block, fast as hell. I’m surprised I didn’t kill myself. Sony cassette deck with Cricket and and Jensen speakers amped up with a 100 watt radio shack equalizer. Loud and fast with some good tunes in 1978. I had a lot of fun in that car.
Bob.

Sensetti

My first car was a 1973 Ford Galaxy 500. I bought it in 77 paid cash 1500 dollars. Car only had 30k miles on it, still had that new car smell, which did not last long. Cigarettes, spilled beers, and debauchery soon followed that ole car. Damn, the more thing change the more they stay the same.

Re Sensetti: I had one of those with a 429 4 brll. Ran like a scared cat. Bought it from the orig owner for $350! Drove it for 3 months while my other car was being fixed, then sold it for $500. All I did was put gas in it.
