QUOTE OF THE DAY

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,

The bible says there is no rest (peace) for the wicked, yet folks insist that Christmas is a time to proclaim Peace on Earth. How can there be peace on earth when heaven suffers violence?

I guess Christmas is no time to talk about Jesus, oh well, back to shopping online at Amazon. They have a ton of self-help books cheap.

Greetings,

That is a great story but there is no historical evidence of such an event.

The census mentioned has been confirmed multiple times and logs of both priceline and expedia show no rooms available.

TBP is a place that busts many, many myths, and reveals new truths. I still recall THE biggest mythbuster for me …. that Abe Lincoln was a scoundrel. For 50 some years I believed he was America’s second greatest president, after George Washington. I fought hard and long against that idea. Just didn’t want to believe it. But, finally, truth squeezed my testicles until I cried “uncle”!

Sometimes people get an overload of truth and they pop a fuse … as Jack Nicholson said, ‘You can’t handle the truth!”. Sometimes The Mythbuster is not welcomed into the congregation …. especially if he attempts to bust a cherished story on a cherished day. It all gets so tiring, and one can almost hear the pleas of the reader — “Shaddup!! Do you have to muck up everything?? Can’t I just keep this one story as being true!!”.

And that’s why you got 3 thumbs down (so far) …. even though your comment is almost certainly correct.

If you believe in Angels then you have to believe in Demons. If you believe in Demons you have to believe in Obama. I don’t wanna believe in Obama!!!

An ‘Argument From Silence’ is considered by some to be a logical fallacy. In other words, the lack of public records is not evidence for OR against the Roman census at the time of Jeebus’ birth. IMHO, the story lacks credibility for other reasons.

From the scripture verse above “Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the ENTIRE ROMAN WORLD. ….. And EVERYONE went to their own town to register.

The ENTIRE Roman World! EVERYONE (not just Jews)! Holy crap!! By Jesus’ time Jews were spread out all over the Roman World, and beyond. Imagine a system of taxation based on people returning to their ancestral homes .

So, Jews from France, Spain, Northern Africa, Turkey, and other places all had to travel to Palestine. And Luke says all nations were so burdened. People not living in France had to return to France, people not living in Spain had to return to Spain, and so on down the line. This idea is NUTS!!

“The Romans were a practical race, skilled in the art of government. It is incredible that they should have taken a census according to such a fantastic system. If any such census had been taken, the dislocation to which it would have led would have been world-wide. Roman historians would not have failed to record it.” ———— “The Rise of Christianity” by Bishop E. W. Barnes

Besides all that, WHY would Joseph have to return in the first place? People were assessed a tax on their possessions; specifically, land and livestock. Joseph had neither. It does paint an amusing mind picture though. A Jew with 500 sheep in Spain travels east, a Spaniard with 500 camels in Turkey travels west …. millions of animals and people crisscrossing the entire freaking Roman empire … pretty much halting all commerce. And there’s no record of this anywhere? Nuts. Just, nuts!!

Even one of Jesus’ disciples didn’t know Jesus was born in Bethlehem —- “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—JESUS OF NAZARETH, the son of Joseph.”

Apparently, even Jesus doesn’t know he was born in Bethlehem …. he certainly NEVER refers to his birthplace. He actually seems to prefer to have people believe he is from someplace else.

About a week before the crucifixion Jesus is addressing a crowd in a loud voice, saying “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” But the crowd thinks he is a Nazarene, and someone asks — “How can the Messiah come from Galilee? Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”

This would have been a perfect time for Jesus to set the record straight. But, he keeps silent. And the scripture says “thus the people were divided because of Jesus.”

In a hundred years there will no record of Nickel.

Stucky says: Even one of Jesus’ disciples didn’t know Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

So says Stucky of New Jersey who was born in Austria, in case you didn’t know.
