Apocalypse Now and Forever

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

As a political psychoanalyst I find the Super-bowl halftime show the best concise index of how psychotic American culture is becoming from year to year, and the 2015 version signaled a complete break from reality, a nightmare of twerking robots in a hall of mirrors, as if America had utterly surrendered its tattered soul to some rogue motherboard pulsing deep within Dr. Evil’s subterranean palace of sin. Hence it is the perfect analog for understanding otherwise incomprehensible happenings such as the USA’s role in fomenting further chaos and mayhem in Ukraine.

How otherwise to explain things like this morning’s New York Times report that the USA “now supports providing defensive weapons and equipment to Kiev’s beleaguered forces, and an array of administration and military officials appear to be edging toward that position….”

Earth calling New York Times readers: I regret to inform you that this decision was already reached a year ago when we paid for the coup d’état against the elected President, Viktor Yanukovych, after the poor sap decided to not sign up with EU but rather the Russian-backed Eurasian Customs Union. Whoops! You’re so out of here, Bub, State Department Under Secretary Victoria Nuland burbled in a clandestinely recorded phone call to the American ambassador. Will somebody please find Yats! Yes Yats! [UKR politician Arseniy Yatsenyuk] and plug the Bluetooth earpiece of power into his skull!

And so it went this past year with a cabal of the USA, the EU, and the IMF shoveling financial support (billions!), armaments, and surely boots-on-the ground into the Ukrainian morass. Last week, a reporter in eastern Ukraine approached a soldier in UKR army battle garb only to be told, in pitch perfect American English, to “get out of my face.” Say what??? The You-tube clip was seen all over the world and to this minute no agent of the US government has been called to account over it. Like I said, a hall of mirrors.

But anyway, we get a little ahead of ourselves because all this really begs the question: what business do we have in Ukraine in the first place and why should it matter to us that they align with Russia? And more to the point: why is it not transparently obvious that Ukraine is solidly within Russia’s sphere of influence, and has been, really, for more than 500 years, and for an excellent reason that has been demonstrated most recently in Napoleon’s invasion of 1812 and then Hitler’s Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of 1941.

In both cases, Russia owed it survival to the vast expanse of flat geography represented by Ukraine where “General Winter” was able to carry out his own defensive operations of relentless howling wind, snow, sub-zero temperatures, and frostbite that eventually vanquished the invaders. Through most of modern times Ukraine has been under the explicit “protection” of the Russian Czars or has been an outright province under the former USSR. Hundreds of years before that, Kievan Rus was the center of an emerging Russian culture and kingdom that only later picked up and moved to Moscow.

You get the picture: Ukraine has a long association with Russia, a principal association, not always happy, sometimes tragic, but a fact of life and history that the US and its foolish stooges in the EU bureaucracy now wish to challenge for absolutely no good reason. Does anybody who is not whacked out of his/her head on crack, or focused like a laser beam on the gender schism within the Kardashian Klan, remember when the US ever challenged the Soviets over Ukraine? No. And for the excellent reason that we accepted the relationship for reasons stated above. So, whose idea is it now that we should start World War Three over this remote region where so many other reckless adventurers came to grief? And what, by the way, do our people mean by “defensive weapons?” Are not most modern weapons designed to work both ways? Anyway, I see the list includes “anti-armor missiles” (i.e. tank-killers) and “drones,” the latter presumably guided by comfortable American military gamers effortlessly targeting pixelated “bad guys” between Slurpee gulps and taco bites, not exactly American Sniper style.

Governor Walker Endorses the Bush Doctrine

Gov. Scott Walker wants the American military to be everywhere on earth.

“I think anywhere and everywhere, we have to go beyond just aggressive air strikes,” Walker said during a live interview on ABC’s This Week. “We need to have an aggressive strategy anywhere around the world.”

Walker is Republican governor of Wisconsin and considering running for president in 2016. Walker said

soldurs’ protect our freedum by killin’ ’em over dare’ fo’ dey’ kill us over hare’

Here is a simple test to determine whether a soldier is a murderer or a hero. There are only fifteen questions and only one of two responses is possible so you should be able to keep track of your answers.

1. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and throws grenades at Americans. Hero or murderer?

2. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and incinerates Americans with a flamethrower. Hero or murderer?

3. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and blows up Americans with a land mine. Hero or murderer?

4. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and blasts Americans to kingdom come with a tank. Hero or murderer?

5. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and drops bombs on Americans. Hero or murderer?

6. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and cuts Americans in half with a machine gun. Hero or murderer?

7. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and launches missiles at Americans. Hero or murderer?

8. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and shoots Americans with a pistol. Hero or murderer?

9. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and maims Americans with mortar fire. Hero or murderer?

10. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and fires rocket propelled grenades at Americans. Hero or murderer?

11. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and shreds the flesh of Americans with cluster bombs. Hero or murderer?

12. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and burns Americans to a crisp with napalm. Hero or murderer?

13. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and destroys Americans with attack helicopters. Hero or murderer?

14. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States and kills Americans as a sniper. Hero or murderer?

15. A soldier from a country thousands of miles away travels to the United States via drone and performs targeted killings of Americans. Hero or murderer?

I don’t know of a single American who wouldn’t say, and say it fifteen times, that these foreign soldiers were murderers.

But why is it that when American soldiers do these things they are heroes but when foreign soldiers do them they are murderers?

Time for another test. Again, there are only fifteen questions and only one of two responses is possible so you should be able to keep track of your answers.

1. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they wore a government-issued uniform?

2. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they were just following orders?

3. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they joined the military to serve their country?

4. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they were patriotic?

5. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because their government said America needed a regime change?

6. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they joined the military because they couldn’t find a job?

7. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they were just obeying their commander in chief?

8. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they didn’t make their country’s foreign policy?

9. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they were drafted?

10. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because their government said there were communists in America?

11. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they joined the military because their father had been in the military?

12. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they just did what they were told?

13. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because their government told them they were fighting a defense war?

14. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because their politicians are the ones responsible for their actions?

15. Should we excuse foreign soldiers because they thought they were defending the freedoms of civilians in their country?

Then why do we excuse American soldiers for these same reasons?

U.S. foreign policy is aggressive, reckless, belligerent, and meddling. We don’t need a foreign policy that strikes a balance. We don’t need a foreign policy that we can afford. We don’t need a foreign policy that is like Reagan’s. We don’t need a foreign policy that is less interventionist. We need a wholesale repudiation of the past century of an evil and murderous U.S. foreign policy.

Hero or Murderer?

For a far more prescient and penetrating “political psychoanalysis” of what brought about the present state of affairs in the West, read Douglas Reed’s 1950 take on the US as written by a foreigner on tour: “Far and Wide” is the name of the book. Caveat: “So controversial was this book on Communism and Zionism that it sent the author into indefinite retirement and forced his publisher out of business,” reads the new publisher’s blurb on Amazon. Reed was condemned as having been a “virulent anti-Semite”, and there appears to be evidence that the charge may not have been unfounded, but his work merits consideration, particularly compared with that of Mr. K, who some might consider a “virulent anti-Christian”.

I prefer to take people as they come, as individuals as opposed to stereotypes, but political trends tend toward the stereotypical, so keeping that caveat in mind…

Nothing keeps cold and hungry peasants occupied as well as Netflix, Facebook and the fear and grief of war.

They have surely screwed up this country to the very edge of insanity, and somehow we think the end game isn’t going to be cold, hunger and death?

How much longer before we figure our entangling our military in a world war might take some pressure/occupation out/off of us?

What a world we live in, thanks to god there will be a next.

Great article! Isn’t Biden’s son in some business venture in Ukraine? I can’t keep up with it all. Is it just a NATO base on Russia’s border they’re after? Perhaps cutting off the bread basket that is Ukraine from Russia? Or is it lots of money in fracking?

So where in the Constitution does it say we should tell everyone in the world how to live?
I’m so tired of all the RA Ra stuff about the military. Our own government is the only enemy to fear.
The potential for all this anti terrorist stuff to be turned around and used on U.S. Citizens is scary.
I see little Representing going on. The corruption and stupidity going on makes me ill.

I believe Governor Walker is from the same clan as George Herbert Walker Bush.

Let me point out a fact I recently learned….Victoria Nuland (“fuck the EU”) is married to Robert Kagan, co-founder of PNAC! You know, the neo-con organization that called for a “Pearl Harbor” type event to get the American public to “go along” with their ideas to inflict even more U.S. Hegemony on the sandbox & the world? Then 9/11 magically happened.

And here’s another “Bush” in the woodpile Vannevar Bush; this one a thinker not a stinker, in charge of the Manhattan project and a “Majestic 12” member (of UFO lore):

Administrator says:

Scott Walker, like George Herbert Walker and George Walker Bush, is a descendant of George Herbert Walker, a wealthy banker originally from St. Louis.

Thanks, I didn’t know that , but I’m not surprised. This farce of a Republican government is looking more an d more like an Aristocracy every day.

I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country.
Thomas Jefferson

Sorry TJ, the corporations where too strong and the populace too stupid.

Does anyone here have knowledge about Dorothy Walker barely spoke English and was a German national??? Yes, I am talking about GHW Bush’s mother.

Lynn
Lynn

Bea Lever, I am a genealogist and find nothing to substantiate that claim.
GHW Bush’s parents were Prescott and Dorothy Walker Bush. The 1930 Census shows that Prescott was born in Ohio and Dorothy was born in Maine. Prescott’s father was born in Massachusetts and his mother was born in Ohio. Dorothy’s parents were both born in Missouri. At the time of the 1930 Census, the family lived in Greenwich, CT. Both spoke English and neither were naturalized citizens. Children listed were: Prescott, Jr. (aged 7, born in Maine), Walker (aged 5, born in Mass.), and Nancy (aged 4, born in New York). For what it’s worth, Walker = GHW In their household were 3 live-in servants from other countries.

The 1920 Census for Dorothy Walker is from St. Louis, Missouri (Ward 25, District 0499). This Census lists her parents as George H. Walker and Lilian N. Walker. His occupation listed was Stock Broker. Children were: Nancy, Dorothy, George H., James, John, Donis. In their household were 5 live-in servants.

In the 1920 and 1930 Census records, questions are asked about literacy, language spoken, etc. Nothing indicates that Dorothy Walker (or any other Bush/Walker family member) weren’t fluent in English.

Would you please look @ Obamas Family tree and tell me where does that Negro hail from? Was he born in a hut in Kenya as I suspect? Thank you for your time.
