IT’S SO COLD……

I’ve never seen a ZERO on my car dashboard as the temperature in my lifetime. Until this morning. It was zero degrees, with a windchill of -15 degrees. And it is going to snow tonight. And then by Friday, it is supposed to get even colder. So tell me again about the melting ice caps. I love those stories. At least I’m not Boston Bob, with his seven feet of snow piled around his house.

Great ones! I hate to tell you this but here in the cold Canadian north, (on the west coast) I washed my motorcycle yesterday and went for a 200 km ride. It is just under 60 deg. F, (15C) although it froze last night. Supposed to be this way for another 2 weeks. On the bad side all the local ski hills are closed due to lack of snow and our snow pack is at 30% of historical normal. We’re getting pretty abnormal heat…which is nice for winter (now over) but it does not bode well for salmon stocks unless we get mucho rain through the summer….unlikely.

Best of luck surviving the bullshit cold. I have worked in Alberta and did so one winter when there were no Chinooks. It is terrible driving around on square tires with cardboard in front of the rad so your heater works. But then again, there isn’t really anywhere to go.

Admin,
I will try to send you updated pictures later. I spent 6 hours on the roof shovelling off the snow and chipping off ice dams with an electric power hammer. Then yesterday we got 20 more inches of snow. It is up over most
of the first floor windows. Today I am off to UMass to see the kids for my birthday. This has been truly an amazing season for snow. BTW -2.6 degrees at my house this working.
Bob.

It is soooo cold outside, I saw a Rooster crossing the street with a Capon.

Now back to reality. Bright blue skies today with the temperature expected to hit 78-80 in the shade of my back patio, here in the east valley. The lemom tree has been pruned and new leaves are out already, as they are on the orange and grapefruit trees. The new orange tree just planted, is already sprouting buds. I’d send pictures of the Cariolina jessamine in full bloom, but I don’t know how to post them.

Stay cold my friends.

Its beautiful out here in Oregon and California with record heat all winter, but little to no snow pack. We’ve had some good rains, but the drought is still looking to continue at this point.

More Dimocratic Dumbassery, Global warming what a joke.

We got the first storm of the season, inch or so of ice pellets, roads are solid ice and we have no sand trucks, fucking ZERO. And of course I worked today. No big deal, I left early and made it fine. Horse’s are stalled in a warm barn, unfortunately that creates even more work for me shoveling shit, wait, that’s what I do here, so nothing new. Carry on. I don’t feel sorry for you’s people who lives in dis shit for weeks at a time.

What a bunch of wussies.

You’ve truly never seen 0 degrees on your thermometer? REALLY? In the midwest or northeast? PLEASE already.

Lessee….. I had to walk to my high school in 1970 when it was 8 below actual temp with chill factor 50 below, for a solid week.. in St Louis. It regularly gets that cold there in winter, and of course in Chicago. But we’re not complaining because we figure we could be in MN or in Ottowa or some such place.

Just put another sweater and a pair of long johns on and stop yer whining.

First, those of you who are cld, no one is making you live their.

Second, y’all are idiots for living there.

If God had wanted man to live in the snow, he would have given us fur.

Y’all do not have fur (well, maybe bb), now do you? That is a hint as to where you should live.

You made your bed, now lie in it, and shaddup.

Reminds me of the time I decided to walk to my apartment from Chanute AFB. I cut through the cornfields and waded thru 2 feet of snow. about a mile from home, I felt unbearably hot and took off my jacket. Once inside, I was restless and felt like my body was on fire. I have read since then, of victims of hypothermia who die with their jackets off.

You fuckin’ pussy! When we have a “good” winter, zero will be the high for two weeks straight with air temps dropping to -20 at night. As long as the wind isn’t blowing I love it. Unfortunately, we have not had a good winter in several years. Hasn’t been below zero once this season and we’ve had less than 8 inches of snow all winter. No cold temps equals lots of bugs this spring and summer. The Robins started arriving here three weeks ago.

I envy BostonBob! Sounds like he is having my dream winter! I can (and do) live without those ice damns. He needs better insulation!

bb,

I live in Sunnyvale, not San Francisco. We have microclimates here. There can be a 25 degree difference despite being only 40 miles apart.

As for my political affiliations, I’m neither conservative nor liberal. I don’t subscribe to the Red Team/Blue Team bullshit. Care to try again?

And the only help I need is discovering a way for you to disappear or get a life.

Steve , no need to.be hostile. I’m the only one that calls you out.I could tell from the moment I read your first post that your inner child was damaged. Now with pride the size of the Mount Sinai you strike out at mankind with a malice of heart that would make Satan proud.
Sunnyvale is nice but it will soon be just another dump in the Third world dump called California. What then?

Out here in the Middle of Nowhere where I live, we’re suffering from too much winter sun and warming. In January, highs and overnight lows were 6 degrees above average. February has been so warm that the golf course I play opened a few days ago. Usually there’s no golfing until the first week in April. People are enjoying their patios, sunning in the parks, and swimming in the river. A recent event, “Polar Plunge” became “Solar Plunge” and the sun brought out people in droves. Worse, there’s no relief in sight. Warm and sunny days are forcast for the forseeable future. If this weather keeps up I’m going to have start mowing the lawn in March.

The plum street trees are blooming, the stinky bradford pear threatens to bloom before I get a chance to cut off some branches. The fruiting plum sapling has some pink buds on it . The potted canna lilies are popping up along with the tulips. The oleander and the relentless climbing rose have kept my spirits up through the dreary winter. I cut the cactus back to 4′ last fall and trimmed the butterfly bush. time to rake my neighbor’s dog poop off my yellow lawn and mow it to expose the green shoots.

You folks in the upper Midwest and Northeast had better start paying attention to energy production in your area. In the bitterly cold winter of 2013-2014, power plants in the entire region hit 97% of their output capacity. 97%. And it was the coal-burning plants that saved your bacon because they are your main backup when Old Man Winter shits in your mess kit.

And here you go again this winter. You can keep rolling the dice and playing this “Green Game” with your power plants (shutting down coal plants with no replacement), but one of these days it’s gonna come up snake-eyes. You’d better have a shitload of firewood.

I figure that putting up with a couple of cold months in winter is just the price I pay to live in a region that has 100 inches a year or more precipitation annually, some of the best farmland in the world that does not need irrigation, is 600 ft above sea level, and has an ample local fresh water supply. It is also the most delightful place to live in the world in spring, summer, and fall.

And IL still has more nuclear plants than almost any other state, so I’m not worried about electricity.

All we need to do is beef up our insulation and buy more blankets and warm clothes. It’s easier to get warm here than it is to get cool in Phoenix in the summer. Takes less energy, too.
