70% of rainfall that falls in California washes out into the Pacific Ocean unimpeded, uncaptured, and unused (as if the Pacific is in danger of running dry).

And they’re tearing down dams and killing reservoirs right and left to protect some insignificant fish that is doing just fine without it.

I have absolutely no sympathy for California, they are reaping what they are sowing.

My water bill is higher than El Coyote’s and he lives in the LA area. Admin posted recently in a thread a story that said many of us are paying higher water bills to subsidize California’s water.

How is it people in Cali pay much less? Well I guess I am doing my part to help.
AT LEAST DRAIN YOUR DAMN SWIMMING POOLS. THANKS

Anon, the dams being removed in CA are mostly small, old, decrepit, and dangerous dams.

And there are precious few suitable sites left to build dams on there. Every really good site for a dam was taken by 1950, and every semi-decent one by 1970.

Bea, if urban and suburban swimming pool owners were the only big users, CA would not be having problems. 80% of the water there is used by agriculture, which gets steeply subsidized water to grow wet-climate and/or low-value crops that don’t begin to pay for the costs of the water. Growers have been getting their water for 10 cents per dollar of the cost of diverting, storing, and shipping it for 80 years.

Stop the subsidies, and make users pay the full cost of their water, and usage will drop to sustainable levels very quickly. But that, of course, will not happen because of the wealth and political power of major landholders and growers, which include companies like Union Pacific and Tejon Ranch, will holdings in the hundreds of thousands of acres.

Farmers in CA only have outsized political power because the other 99% of Californians still have cheap water coming out of their taps. If their taps run dry, they’ll vote to strip farmers’ “water rights” – as they should. Those water rights are subject to the vagaries of democratic action. The fact that Californians have allowed agriculture to use 80% of the water shows that Californians are not completely dismissive of the importance of agriculture. They already show exceeding deference to farmers, but that deference needs to be curtailed. If drip irrigation causes the price of almonds to double, so be it. Higher prices for vegetables, fruits and nuts will encourage their cultivation in other areas where there’s more consistent rainfall.

Look at it on the bright side. When the golden horde starts rioting there will be no water to put out the fires .Maybe just maybe. the masses of white people will wake up to the fact that the ruling political class is not only corrupt but incompetent.

Build a fence around it and don’t let the sonsofbitches out.

Only be fair, that fence.

That’s basically what they did to those fleeing the Dust Bowl looking for agricultural work there, built incoming road blocks and checkpoints and wouldn’t let anyone in, just kept them confined in camps along the border..

I’d be willing to donate as case or two of this:

Here is an idea from the Romans. Don’t bother with the video, it is the usual lame CNBC shit.

Given the CA water predicament I now have a legit reason to think about them every time I flush.
