There are the Germanic peoples, and within them is the subset of the northern peoples, variously called the Goths (in the Roman era) and the Norsemen (c. 750-1000 AD). Genetic relationship? To over-simplify things, I wouldn’t say we’re all brothers, but we are cousins. Linguisticly, if you go back far enough, Proto-German and whatever came before Old Norse were probably very much the same, and those relationships extend to the english speaking world.
