Witnesses: Father, 2 Daughters Beaten by Crowd During Memorial Day Cookout
A father and his two daughters are recovering after witnesses say they were beaten by a large crowd on Memorial Day in an attack they believe was racially-motivated.
A Bucks County man, who we are not identifying, told NBC10 the incident was the culmination of several months of bullying. The man’s mother, sister, brother-in-law and four nieces and nephews between the ages of 7 and 12 live at a home on Lawndale Street in the Juniata section of Philadelphia.
The father told NBC10 his sister’s family is the only white family living on the block and that for the past year the children have been the victims of racially-motivated bullying, name-calling and attacks. The father also says his own children, his 6-year-old son who has autism, 12-year-old daughter who has Asperger’s syndrome and asthma and 14-year-old daughter who has Type-1 diabetes, have been the victims of bullying whenever they visit.
The bullies are mostly kids and teenagers as well as some adults, according to the father. He also said during one incident bricks were thrown at the children. The father insisted however that it wasn’t the entire block bullying his family and that some neighbors have come to his family’s defense.
The father and his kids were visiting his mother’s home on Lawndale Street Monday around 5:30 p.m. during a Memorial Day cookout when he says a large group of people on the block kept going to the house and harassing his family. He also says one child pinched his daughter.
Not wanting the situation to escalate, the father says the family tried to leave. That’s when a group of around 20 people, mostly women and teenagers, tried to pull the man’s brother-in-law and mother off the porch, according to witnesses. The father then says they began to attack his two daughters. One woman also grabbed his daughter’s hair and pulled her head against a railing, according to witnesses.
As the crowd attacked, the father told NBC10 a man with brass knuckles began to beat him. The father says he fell to the ground, struck his head on a railing and the attack continued.
A witness called 911 and the crowd finally dispersed.
The father was taken to Aria-Frankford while his daughters were taken to St. Mary’s. They were all treated for head trauma and later released from the hospital.
Police told NBC10 they are investigating the incident though no arrests have been made.

Best CQ shotgun round is, hands down, the 12 gauge 3 inch mag, #1 buckshot. Winchester makes a fine version of this round, the Super-X. Part number XB1231. They also make 2 3/4″ shells in #1 buckshot as well.
Anyone or anything being hit with a full charge of this stuff is literally being hit with 24 pellets of .30 caliber each (the classic 00 Buck is only .33 caliber, but you get way less pellets per shell) at around 1100 fps. They will have a very bad day.
The weight of the shot in 00 Buckshot and #1 Buckshot is literally the same. The difference being is that you get 24 pellets in #1 buck and you only get 15 pellets in 00 buck, despite that there’s only a difference of .03 of an inch diameter between the two. No contest. I got turned on to this stuff back in the mid-90’s by an old SF Master Sergeant, and I haven’t looked back since.
Anything hit with this stuff will be knocked flat and I seriously doubt will be getting back up. It really is hell on wheels and I highly recommend it…

Matter of fact, since all the Rhody A5’s were 2 3/4, and one were making one for themselves, why not upgrade and use a 3″ mag? Choke is cylinder bore and you can build one for considerably less than 2K…
And I wouldn’t have that faggy rubber buttpad on it. A shotgun is a close quarters weapon. Which means a steel buttplate. The back end of a rifle or shotgun is just as viable a weapon as the front end… you just have to know how to use it.

Defeating armor is more a matter of velocity than composition. If you can shove a banana fast enough, it will go through armor. Well, okay, maybe not a banana. But a 1 kg block of aluminum fired from a rail gun will go through an M1A2 Abrams tank lengthwise at 5000 meters. The block was moving at 35,000 fps. The Germans did it back during the late 90’s. Composition doesn’t matter as much as speed, though composition does allow lower speeds to be used
Shotgun rounds move at about 1100 fps. And this shotgun round you speak of will defeat IIIA level armor? Eh… I’d like to see the data on that. Sounds dubious. How was the testing conducted? By whom? Did they use trauma plates? Which ones? Steel, ceramic, composite, etc?
After 25 meters get a rifle.
And I’d like to see some average Joe Baggadonuts with a hallway longer than 25 meters. Inside a house, we’re talking feet. Not meters. Which means the shot charge won’t have the time or distance to spread hardly at all. Which means the wound will be what’s called a “rat hole” – a massive hole about 2 inches across going all the way through. Looks like a rat chewed it’s way through. Very likely unsurvivable.
And any shotgun in good shape can be effective out to 100 meters with the judicious use of slugs. A Brenneke slug will drop a 200+ lb buck in its’ tracks at 100 meters, and most folks could reliably hit a pie plate at that distance with a shotgun and good slugs. Not saying it will ever replace a rifle, but if it’s all you got, then picking up a couple hundred rounds of Brenneke slugs will pay dividends.

My “bedside” weapon is a Winchester M12 riot gun with No. 1 buckshot. A leather cuff on the butt carries 2 Brenneke slugs and 3 more rounds of buckshot. I save the handguns for concealed carry and we don’t fool with lasers or anything like that. If you practice enough, you don’t need them. Plus, it’s just one more thing to crap out and shit the bed when you need it most.
