What’s Really Going on at Fukushima?
Fukushima’s still radiating, self-perpetuating, immeasurable, and limitless, like a horrible incorrigible Doctor Who monster encounter in deep space.
Fukushima will likely go down in history as the biggest cover-up of the 21st Century. Governments and corporations are not leveling with citizens about the risks and dangers; similarly, truth itself, as an ethical standard, is at risk of going to shambles as the glue that holds together the trust and belief in society’s institutions. Ultimately, this is an example of how societies fail.
Tens of thousands of Fukushima residents remain in temporary housing more than four years after the horrific disaster of March 2011. Some areas on the outskirts of Fukushima have officially reopened to former residents, but many of those former residents are reluctant to return home because of widespread distrust of government claims that it is okay and safe.
Part of this reluctance has to do with radiation’s symptoms. It is insidious because it cannot be detected by human senses. People are not biologically equipped to feel its power, or see, or hear, touch or smell it (Caldicott). Not only that, it slowly accumulates over time in a dastardly fashion that serves to hide its effects until it is too late.
Chernobyl’s Destruction Mirrors Fukushima’s Future
As an example of how media fails to deal with disaster blowback, here are some Chernobyl facts that have not received enough widespread news coverage: Over one million (1,000,000) people have already died from Chernobyl’s fallout.
Additionally, the Rechitsa Orphanage in Belarus has been caring for a very large population of deathly sick and deformed children. Children are 10 to 20 times more sensitive to radiation than adults.
Zhuravichi Children’s Home is another institution, among many, for the Chernobyl-stricken: “The home is hidden deep in the countryside and, even today, the majority of people in Belarus are not aware of the existence of such institutions” (Source: Chernobyl Children’s Project-UK).
One million (1,000,000) is a lot of dead people. But, how many more will die? Approximately seven million (7,000,000) people in the Chernobyl vicinity were hit with one of the most potent exposures to radiation in the history of the Atomic Age.
The exclusion zone around Chernobyl is known as “Death Valley.” It has been increased from 30 to 70 square kilometres. No humans will ever be able to live in the zone again. It is a permanent “dead zone.”
Additionally, over 25,000 died and 70,000 disabled because of exposure to extremely dangerous levels of radiation in order to help contain Chernobyl. Twenty percent of those deaths were suicides, as the slow agonizing “death march of radiation exposure” was too much to endure.
Fukushima- The Real Story

Dr. Helen Caldicott is co-founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility, and she is author/editor of Crisis Without End: The Medical and Ecological Consequences of the Fukushima Nuclear Catastrophe, The New Press, September 2014. For over four decades Dr. Caldicott has been the embodiment of the anti-nuclear banner, and as such, many people around the world classify her as a “national treasure”. She’s truthful and honest and knowledgeable.
Fukushima is literally a time bomb in quiescence. Another powerful quake and all hell could break loose. Also, it is not even close to being under control. Rather, it is totally out of control. According to Dr. Caldicott, “It’s still possible that Tokyo may have to be evacuated, depending upon how things go.” Imagine that!
According to Japan Times as of March 11, 2015: “There have been quite a few accidents and problems at the Fukushima plant in the past year, and we need to face the reality that they are causing anxiety and anger among people in Fukushima, as explained by Shunichi Tanaka at the Nuclear Regulation Authority. Furthermore, Mr. Tanaka said, there are numerous risks that could cause various accidents and problems.”
Even more ominously, Seiichi Mizuno, a former member of Japan’s House of Councillors (Upper House of Parliament, 1995-2001) in March 2015 said: “The biggest problem is the melt-through of reactor cores… We have groundwater contamination… The idea that the contaminated water is somehow blocked in the harbor is especially absurd. It is leaking directly into the ocean. At Fukushima, each reactor required one million gallons of water per minute for cooling, but when the tsunami hit, the backup diesel generators were drowned. Units 1, 2, and 3 had meltdowns within days. There were four hydrogen explosions. Thereafter, the melting cores burrowed into the container vessels, maybe into the earth.
According to Dr. Caldicott, “One hundred tons of terribly hot radioactive lava has already gone into the earth or somewhere within the container vessels, which are all cracked and broken.” Nobody really knows for sure where the hot radioactive lava resides. The scary unanswered question: Is it the China Syndrome?
Following the meltdown, the Japanese government did not inform people of the ambient levels of radiation that blew back onto the island. Unfortunately and mistakenly, people fled away from the reactors to the highest radiation levels on the island at the time.
As the disaster happened, enormous levels of radiation hit Tokyo. The highest radiation detected in the Tokyo Metro area was in Saitama with cesium radiation levels detected at 919,000 becquerel (Bq) per square meter, a level almost twice as high as Chernobyl’s “permanent dead zone evacuation limit of 500,000 Bq” (source: Radiation Defense Project). For that reason, Dr. Caldicott strongly advises against travel to Japan and recommends avoiding Japanese food.
Even so, post the Fukushima disaster, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed an agreement with Japan that the U.S. would continue importing Japanese foodstuff. Therefore, Dr. Caldicott suggests people not vote for Hillary Clinton. One reckless dangerous precedent is enough for her.
According to Arnie Gundersen, an energy advisor with 39 years of nuclear power engineering experience, as reported in The Canadian on August 15, 2011: “The US government has come up with a decision at the highest levels of the State Department, as well as other departments who made a decision to downplay Fukushima. In April, the month after the powerful tsunami and earthquake crippled Japan including its nuclear power plant, Hillary Clinton signed a pact with Japan that she agreed there is no problem with Japanese food supply and we will continue to buy them. So, we are not sampling food coming in from Japan.”
However, in stark contrast to the United States, in Europe Angela Merkel, PhD physics, University of Leipzig and current chancellor of Germany is shutting down all nuclear reactors because of Fukushima.
Maybe an advanced degree in physics makes the difference in how a leader approaches the nuclear power issue. It certainly looks that way when comparing/contrasting the two pantsuit-wearing leaders, Chancellor Merkel and former secretary of state Clinton.
After the Fukushima blow up, ambient levels of radiation in Washington State went up 40,000 times above normal, but according to Dr. Caldicott, the U.S. media does not cover the “ongoing Fukushima mess.” So, who would really know?
Dr. Caldicott ended her speech on Sept. 2014 by saying: “In Fukushima, it is not over. Everyday, four hundred tons of highly radioactive water pours into the Pacific and heads towards the U.S. Because the radiation accumulates in fish, we get that too. The U.S. government is not testing the water, not testing the fish, and not testing the ambient air. Also, people in Japan are eating radiation every day.”
Furthermore, according to Dr. Caldicott: “Rainwater washes over the nuclear cores into the Pacific. There is no way they can get to those cores, men die, robots get fried. Fukushima will never be solved. Meanwhile, people are still living in highly radioactive areas.”
Fukushima will never be solved because “men die” and “robots get fried.” By the sounds of it, Fukushima is a perpetual radiation meltdown scenario that literally sets on the edge of a bottomless doomsday pit, in waiting to be nudged over.
UN All-Clear Report
A UN (UNSCEAR) report on April 2, 2014 on health impacts of the Fukushima accident concluded that any radiation-induced effects would be too small to identify. People were well protected and received “low or very low” radiation doses. UNSCEAR gave an all-clear report.
Rebuttal of the UNSCEAR report by the German affiliate of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War d/d July 18, 2014 takes a defiant stance in opposition to the UN report, to wit: “The Fukushima nuclear disaster is far from over. Despite the declaration of ‘cold shutdown’ by the Japanese government in December 2011, the crippled reactors have not yet achieved a stable status and even UNSCEAR admits that emissions of radioisotopes are continuing unabated. 188 TEPCO is struggling with an enormous amount of contaminated water, which continues to leak into the surrounding soil and sea. Large quantities of contaminated cooling water are accumulating at the site. Failures in the makeshift cooling systems are occurring repeatedly. The discharge of radioactive waste will most likely continue for a long time.”
“Both the damaged nuclear reactors and the spent fuel ponds contain vast amounts of radioactivity and are highly vulnerable to further earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons and human error. Catastrophic releases of radioactivity could occur at any time and eliminating this risk will take many decades… It is impossible at this point in time to come up with an exact prognosis of the effects that the Fukushima nuclear disaster will have on the population in Japan… the UNSCEAR report represents a systematic underestimation and conjures up an illusion of scientific certainty that obscures the true impact of the nuclear catastrophe on health and the environment.”

Fukushima’s Radiation and the Future
Mari Yamaguchi, Associated Press (AP), June 12, 2015: “Four years after an earthquake and tsunami destroyed Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant, the road ahead remains riddled with unknowns… Experts have yet to pinpoint the exact location of the melted fuel inside the three reactors and study it, and still need to develop robots capable of working safely in such highly radioactive conditions. And then there’s the question of what to do with the waste… serious doubts about whether the cleanup can be completed within 40 years.”
“Although the Chernobyl accident was a terrible accident, it only involved one reactor. With Fukushima, we have the minimum [of] 3 reactors that are emitting dangerous radiation. The work involved to deal with this accident will take tens of years, hundreds of years,” Prof. Hiroaki Koide (retired), Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute, April 25, 2015. “It could be that some of the fuel could actually have gone through the floor of the containment vessel as well… What I’ve just described is very, very logical for anyone who understands nuclear engineering or nuclear energy,” which dreadfully spells-out: THE CHINA SYNDROME.
According to the Smithsonian, April 30, 2015: “Birds Are in a Tailspin Four Years After Fukushima: Bird species are in sharp decline, and it is getting worse over time… Where it’s much, much hotter, it’s dead silent. You’ll see one or two birds if you’re lucky.” Developmental abnormalities of birds include cataracts, tumors, and asymmetries. Birds are spotted with strange white patches on their feathers.
Maya Moore, a former NHK news anchor, authored a book about the disaster: The Rose Garden of Fukushima (Tankobon, 2014), about the roses of Mr. Katsuhide Okada. Today, the garden has perished: “It’s just poisoned wasteland. The last time Mr. Okada actually went back there, he found baby crows that could not fly, that were blind. Mutations have begun with animals, with birds.”
The Rose Garden of Fukushima features a collection of photos of an actual garden that existed in Fukushima, Japan. Boasting over 7500 bushes of roses and 50-thousand visitors a year, the Garden was rendered null and void in an instant due to the triple disaster — earthquake, tsunami, and meltdown.
The forward to Maya’s book was written by John Roos, former US Ambassador to Japan 2009-13: “The incredible tale of Katz Okada and his Fukushima rose garden was told here by Maya Moore… gives you a small window into what the people of Tohoku faced.”
Roos’ “small window” could very well serve as a metaphor for a huge black hole smack dab in the heart of civilization. Similarly, Fukushima is a veritable destruction machine that consumes everything in its path, and beyond, and its path is likely to grow. For certain, it is not going away.
Thus, TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) is deeply involved in an asymmetric battle against enormously powerful unleashed out-of-control forces of E=mc2.
Clearly, TEPCO has its back to the wall. Furthermore, it’s doubtful TEPCO will “break the back of the beast.” In fact, it may be an impossible task.
Maybe, just maybe, Greater Tokyo’s 38 million residents will eventually be evacuated. Who knows for sure?

I hear the people in Fukushima don’t need microwave ovens – they just use their mail boxes!
The USA is dotted with nuke plants running way beyond their original designs, accumulating more and more spent fuel rods in pools on site.
There is (as I understand it) ZERO money for decommissioning those plants and finding a place to permanently store their 90% still active “spent” fuel.
We live at a time when kicking one can after another down the road is a National Pastime. When the bills come due for all of this magical thinking now in place, I wonder how on Earth mankind will make it.
If I didn’t know better I’d say all of our politicians and high level bureaucrats are closet Satanists who conspire to bring about the end of the human race.
D.C., thing is we have a whole slew of “G.E. Mark I” nuke plants with the same design as Fukushima; spent fuel pool on the 3rd story, 100 feet in the air, same million gallon an hour water cooling needs, same station blackout generator problems. And some of these plants were positioned downstream from dams that are now leaking. An inland tsumani is as effective as a tidal wave when it comes to washing all that plutonium downstream!

The simple presence of background radiation is NOT, as I understand it, that big a deal. People exist in places that have high background radiation without apparent effect, which follows from an understanding of hormesis (do a search on “radiation hormesis.”)
OTOH, the wrong isotopes spells Big Problems.
What really bothers me is that when nuclear power was proposed in the USA (and elsewhere) there was a perfectly plausible method of reprocessing spent fuel and reusing it until, eventually, all the long-lived isotopes were “burned” up in power production. Somewhere along the line this fuel cycle program was shelved in favor of producing vast quantities of highly radioactive (i.e., FULL OF ENERGY) “spent” fuel.
It’s as though someone figured out how to get paid VAST sums of money to simply babysit the spent fuel, and they bought themselves enough congressmen to make it happen.

We are surrounded by misinformation that gets established as “fact” and then becomes the basis for all downstream actions. We are absolutely drowning in “things we know that just ain’t so,” that started life as political public relations and became “bedrock” (pseudo)knowledge.
This leaves someone like me, who has enough knowledge to have an inkling what’s going on, but not nearly enough knowledge to separate total fact from total BS, completely baffled.

A simple solution to eliminate the problem would be to nuke the Fukushima with a multi megaton thermonuclear hydrogen/fusion type bomb. This should neutralize the radioactive material in the area and make Fukushima as safe as Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a few years. This approach could also be utilized for cleaning up the Chernobyl site.

Like you, I have a really tough time figuring out what to believe. You may be familiar with the site http://www.geoengineeringwatch.org which has some really great info confirming the reality of chemtrails. Where I part company with Wigington is that I don’t believe available evidence supports the existence of CAGW, although since virtually all available evidence comes from USGOV or UN agencies, who can be sure? In any case, no global warning means their motives for chemtrailing probably aren’t altruistic.
What are the possible motives? I believe they are creating the California drought because 1) Agenda 21 ain’t gonna happen by itself, people need to be “nudged”; 2) there’s some really nice farmland in the Central Valley that the big agribusiness companies can pick up real cheap if it can be rendered unproductive for a few years; 3) the increased mortality, population reduction and profits for the medical/pharmaceutical cartel from increased incidence of Alzheimer’s and autoimmune disorders due to aluminum in the spray are a nice bonus to TPTB. Good solid confluence of interests there.
I really hope to be proven wrong about all this, because if true, it means the gov is already at war with us in a very visible and demonstrable way.
Stuck, a couple years ago, after learning more than I should have sought about Fukishima and our own nuclear plants/spent rods (which, by the @dc, we consumers have paid out billions of dollars into a fund attached to our electric rates that hasn’t been used for its stated purpose of the fuel rods, go figure), I came to the conclusion that if a major nuclear war doesn’t kill us, solar flares or emps or just plain old bureaucratic incompetence, pay for past services and the reality of how broke we actually are is going to eventually cause shit to hit the fan.
More than one psychic states most of us will go out via nuclear before 2040.
I decided that there is NO will to uncover the truth (hence people eating fish from Asia and the USDA stopping to check it for radiation within a couple months of Fukishima), and no will, nor apparently cash, in fixing our very real limitations and life-spans that we are getting ready to bump up against.
Yet one more way they are culling our herd. We create systems to alleviate human death, so apparently our Lords and Betters are working hard to balance the system back out.

DC, I think you may be referring to Thorium reactors. Good information about this on the web accessible with a simple search. The reason Thorium reactors are not in widespread use today is that they don’t produce the radioactive waste that was needed to build weapons in the early days of nuclear engineering. Chock another one up for the DoD/MIC.
I read somewhere that when the idea was first proposed to GE and Westinghouse to build nuclear power plants, they said no. They did a study and told the .gov that the liability issue was too great and besides that, what the hell will we do with all the spent fuel rods?
The .gov was obsessed for someone to build breeder reactors so they would have a endless supply of fissionable material with which to build thousands of H-bombs. So they guaranteed both energy giants that the taxpayers would foot the bill for both the spent rods and the liability issue.
I had always wondered why the power companies got all the profit, but it was up to the taxpayers to get rid of the nuclear waste. Now I know the answer. It was simple greed, avarice and psychopathic behavior on the part of all involved, except the citizens, who will now grow sicker and sicker and will die horrible deaths.

Answer: Fukushima, now, equals the detonation of 5,910.11 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs or it’s about 6,000 Times worse than the A-Bombing of Japan; and, it is still going strong, with no end in sight. That is equal to 6.45 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs a Day for 916 Days. There are only 336 cities on Earth with more than One Million people. That is the equivalent of 17.5 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs apiece.

It is here that it occurred to me that 66 years previously, atomic bombs fell, contaminating Hiroshima and Nagasaki with radioactive particles that should have made those cities uninhabitable for thousands of year. Why are we are so concerned, then, about those partially melting reactors in Fukushima, yes, now determined to be a nuclear accident level 7 disaster, the same as Chernobyl, when both cities are not only safe, but vibrant?
The atomic bomb that detonated over Hiroshima used Uranium-235, while the Nagasaki bomb had Plutonium-239. The half-life of U-235 is 700 million years, while that of Pu-239 is 24,000 years. In other words, once on the ground, they will be there for a very long time. I thus again visited both peace parks to get to the bottom of all this.
I asked for and received several pages from the Hiroshima Peace Museum regarding this issue. To quote:
“Today, the background radiation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki is the same as the average amount of natural radiation present anywhere on Earth. It is not enough to affect human health.”
Part of the answer is that these bombs exploded high up in the air and all the radioactive material blew or rained away… somewhere. I guess.
But, Little Boy over Hiroshima was only about 1% efficient, so what happened to the 139 pounds of the U-235 that were particularized? From all reports, the plume dissipated over land and sea. Same for Nagasaki and the 12 pounds of Pu-239 particles. There was a slight increase of leukemia in the Nagasaki region, but no additional incidence of cancers anywhere in and around Hiroshima. Thus, contrary to any kind of logical sense, while the high altitude (1968 feet for Hiroshima and 1800 feet for Nagasaki) of the nuclear explosions immediately killed 200,000 people, these cities soon became safe, and are thriving today. I’m, actually, still wondering why.
But with respect to the relative long-term danger of nuclear power plants versus ATOMIC BOMBS, another article mentioned that there is a lot more fissionable material in the former compared to the latter. For example, a 1000 MW reactor uses 50,000 pounds of enriched uranium/year and produces 54,000 pounds of waste, which keeps accumulating, so in a 20-year period, there should be more than a million pounds of radioactive material on site. Little Boy had only 141 pounds of U-235, while Fat Man used 14 pounds of Pu-239.
Chernobyl released 200 times more radiation than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs, combined. As far away as Scotland, the radiation rose to 10,000 times the norm. Frighteningly, the Fukushima reactors are said to be more dangerous than Chernobyl (Uranium-235) for two reasons: more enriched uranium, and Fukushima #3 has plutonium. At this time, the Fukushima reactors have only emitted about 10% the total radioactivity of Chernobyl, but there seems to be no soon end to this crisis.
A particularly inflammatory issue about this subject is the specter of plutonium, which is a byproduct of U-235 nuclear reactors. For one, you can make more bombs, and the Cold War is why the USA chose uranium over thorium in the 50s. However, it is reported that you can actually hold plutonium and your skin will protect you from the radiation. A key matter is that radioactivity danger is inversely proportional to the half-life of the material. Thus, a chunk of P-239, with a half-life of 24,000 years, should not be a health concern. Apparently, you can even eat it, and you should survive. In fine particles in your lung, plutonium can cause cancer.
Other radioactive products of these nuclear reactors are isotopes of iodine and cesium. Iodine-131 is particularly mentioned, because it has a half-life of eight days, and therefore very radioactive. In the sea, though, much of this material loses potency quickly, so in a hundred days, it should not be a danger to human health. Cesium-137 has a half-life of 30 years, so it is unfortunately conformed to affect our lifestyles: radioactivity is high, but safety, as such, comes only after 300 years, the time when Chernobyl is supposed to become good for human habitation. Natural accumulation of mercury already has been judged bad for your health, so you can fully expect all kinds of radioactive fears forthcoming about eating seafood, for public perception rules markets more than reality.
Further on the “peaceful” uses of nuclear, Chernobyl showed that a major nuclear power plant accident can contaminate a large region for a very long time. An area the size of Switzerland for 300 years is the case of Chernobyl. You DON’T want to click on The Children of Chernobyl. It is reported that 330,000 had to be relocated. Fukushima, being at the same highest level as Chernobyl, will mean that residents within a few miles (but how many?) will never be able to return home. Additionally keep in mind that plutonium might this time be a contaminant, and the dangerous period for this isotope is 100,000 years. But, remember that Hiroshima and Nagasaki are thriving today, and it has only been 66 years.
In any case, this damning liability of nuclear fission facilities could well be the conclusive reason why there will be no new plants into the long-term future. This is why we should be afraid of Fukushima and any nuclear facility.
That should be convincing enough, but one final screw into the fission coffin is that society will simply determine that nuclear power is not worth the potential damage. Chernobyl supposedly cost Ukraine, Belarus and Russia hundreds of billions of dollars. This was greater than the revenues gained from all the nuclear power plants in those countries from the beginning of operation in 1954 to when the accident occurred. The cost of Hurricane Katrina was about $125 billion, but what can we do about hurricanes? (Actually, the Blue Revolution has a possible answer.) Something similar to Chernobyl will be true for Fukushima, as the estimated cost of damage will exceed $300 billion. When you realize that Tokyo Electric Power Company reported a net income of about $1.3 billion last year, you must get the message.
Thus, these mathematics and overwhelming preponderance of evidence should lead you to a conclusion that nuclear fission is far too risky. Yes, this combination of 9.0 earthquake, 124 foot tsunami and three partial nuclear meltdowns at the same location might not happen again. But consider that many nuclear facilities are located at the coastline in the path of a possible 200 mile/hour hurricane, and you should be worried. This is unbelievable, and really not a sensible comparison, but the energy yield of Little Boy and Fat Man together is one-fourth the energy released by an average hurricane in ONE SECOND.
Further, there are 436 nuclear plants. What if a terrorist organization or two or more managed to have one of their members hired to work in them. By now perhaps there could be several terrorists here and there plotting to cause maximum damage as insiders. There is no way to prevent these types of orchestrated mission, and the impact will be catastrophic if this reactor happened to be in the vicinity of a large population, as no doubt will be within the planning strategy of these organizations. If a Muslim, such a suicidal effort will allegedly get you and your family to Heaven, and there could be that psychotic environmentalist.
Thus, you very much should worry about Fukushima and any operating nuclear facility. The problem is that with Peak Oil and Global Warming, and now, the end of nuclear fission, is Humanity Doomed? While you ponder over those negatives,on the plus side, the Sakura blooms are at peak in Tokyo, I just returned to Hawaii and there is always hope for fusion. After all, if our Sun and all the stars use this process to provide energy, here, surely, must be the ultimate answer.
