WOULD YOU LIKE SOME THC WITH THAT COOKIE?

IT’S TGIF. LET’S KICK IT OFF WITH THIS HEARWARMING STORY. I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS. DEDICATED TO OUR DEAR FRIEND FROM COLORADO, BLOTTOMATIK.

A teenager in Colorado died after consuming an entire marijuana cookie that contained 6 servings of marijuana’s active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The 19-year-old man had received a marijuana cookie from his friend, a 23-year-old who bought the product from a store. The sales clerk instructed the friend to divide the cookie into six pieces, with each piece containing about 10 mg of THC, the recommended serving size established by Colorado authorities.

At first, the 19-year-old followed these instructions, and ate just part of the cookie. But after about 30 to 60 minutes, he didn’t feel any effects, so he ate the rest of the cookie, according to the report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Over the next few hours, the man showed erratic speech and hostile behaviors. About 2.5 hours after he ate the whole cookie, he jumped off a balcony on the fourth floor of his building, and died from trauma from the fall. Officials determined that marijuana intoxication was the chief contributing factor to the man’s death.

P.S. from SSS: You Stoners in Colorado have a nice weekend. Watch those cookies. Heh.

You can’t fix stupid.

I have a friend who wants to open a store in Colorado which I have no problem with; except he wants it to be part pot dispensary. I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. The regulations and start up costs is staggering (up to $15,000 just for licensing) and just defending yourself against the lawsuit if the family of this kid decides to sue would near wipe you out.

A crocodile killed a man while he was retrieving golf balls from a dam called Lake Panic at South Africa’s flagship wildlife reserve, officials said Thursday.

The crocodile grabbed 29-year-old Jacques van der Sandt in its jaws on Wednesday night and disappeared under the water at a golf course next to a staff residential area within the park boundaries, according to Kruger National Park officials.

Rangers killed the crocodile after a two-hour search following the attack, according to a park statement.

It said the body of Van der Sandt, the son of a park employee, was recovered with tooth marks on the back and front but did not have any “mutilation.”

Oubaas Coetzer, a police officer, said the crocodile attacked van der Sandt while he was standing at waist height in the water and reaching below the surface to feel for golf balls on the bottom of the dam.

“One guy challenged the other to see who can retrieve the most golf balls,” Coetzer said. He described van der Sandt as a keen golfer who grew up in the park and had probably seen crocodiles in the dam in the past.

The victim’s mother works for the park, and his father also worked at Kruger until his retirement.

Drinking Too Much Water Can Be Deadly: New Guidelines On Healthy Water Consumption Warns Against The Wrong Amount
Jun 30, 2015 03:35 PM By Samantha Olson

Flooding the body with too much water can eventually lead to death.

Drinking enough water is essential for the human body to function, but drinking too much can be just as dangerous as drinking too little. A panel of 17 experts from around the world collaboratively wrote guidelines outlining the safest way to drink water without going overboard. The new guidelines were accompanied by warnings, published in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, and announced at the International Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia Consensus Development Conference.

“Our major goal was to re-educate the public on the hazards of drinking beyond thirst during exercise,” the guideline’s lead author Dr. Tamara Hew-Butler, an exercise science professor at Oakland University, said in a statement. “Every single EAH death is tragic and preventable, if we just listen to our bodies and let go of the pervasive advice that if a little is good, than more must be better.”

Athletes are particularly at risk. According to the experts, 14 deaths of marathon runners, football players, and other athletes have already been attributed to drinking too much water or sports drinks during a physical activity. The condition is known as exercise-associated hyponatremia (EAH), in which the kidneys become overwhelmed by the large quantity of liquid it’s forced to process. The body’s naturally occuring sodium can’t keep up with the amount of water, leading to swelling in the cells and in severe cases, death. The panel recommends preventing hyponatremia by being in tune with your body and drinking when you’re thirsty — no more, no less.

“Using the innate thirst mechanism to guide fluid consumption is a strategy that should limit drinking in excess and developing hyponatremia while providing sufficient fluid to prevent excessive dehydration,” according to the guidelines, published in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine.

Watch for signs of EAH by knowing common symptoms, which include lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, puffiness, and weight gain during a physical activity. In severe cases, vomiting, headaches, confusion, agitation, delirium, seizures, and comas may occur, which can be life-threatening. EAH has been known to strike people who are in physically challenging athletic events, such as marathons, triathlons, military exercises, hiking, football, calisthenics during fraternity hazing, and even yoga.

Water is a key chemical of the body, which is why it needs to remain within a healthy range in order to balance the body. The human body loses water every day through breathing, sweating, urinating, and having a bowel movement, according to the Mayo Clinic. In order to replenish the body with enough water without overwhelming the cells, the Institute of Medicine determined the ideal amount is approximately 16 8-ounce cups (3.7 liters) for men and 11 8-ounce cups (2.7 liters) for women.

For athletes or anyone about to engage in a physical activity that will make you sweat, drink 1.5 to 2.5 extra cups of water to compensate for the fluid loss. Because sodium is lost through sweat perspiration, drinking a sports drink that contains sodium will help replace and balance out the increased water intake while reducing the chances of developing hyponatremia.

This is what drinking too much water during exercise does to your body
By Ariana Eunjung Cha July 1

The idea that you should always stay hydrated has been ingrained in many of us since childhood by everyone from Little League coaches to parents. For many athletes that advice has been translated into drinking a lot and drinking often while exercising.

Now a panel of experts says that practice is not only outdated but dangerous. On Tuesday, a group representing sports medicine doctors, physiologists and trainers issued new guidelines telling people to stop drinking in excess during physical activity. Practically speaking, that means you should only drink when you’re thirsty.

Writing in the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, the specialists said that “aggressive drinking to prevent dehydration is unnecessary and carries with it greater risk.”

“Fluid intake recommendations suggesting that athletes begin to drink fluids before the onset of the sensation of thirst were targeting those exercising in situations where high sweat rates were present and dehydration could evolve rapidly with known medical and performance outcomes,” they said. “Unfortunately, this advice fostered the misconception that thirst is a poor guide to fluid replacement in lower sweat rate situations. We believe that this has facilitated individuals choosing to inadvertently adopt overdrinking.”

The dangers of overdrinking can be serious and range from lightheadedness, confusion or nausea to cerebral edema in which the brain swells due to excess water. At least 14 athletes — including a woman who died two days after completing the Marine Corps Marathon in 2002 — are believed to have died from drinking too much during exercise in a condition known as exercise-associated hyponatremia or EAH.

When excess fluids build up up in the body the concentration of sodium can drop precipitously and the kidney become overloaded and are unable to excrete the water load. Cells begin to absorb the water. This can lead to swelling all over the body — most seriously in the brain — which can lead to seizures, coma or even death.

The effects are described in a 2013 article in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise by Oakland University researcher Tamara Hew-Butler, who is a member of the panel who made the new recommendations on Tuesday. Of the 669 finishers, 18.5 percent were dehydrated and 34.9 percent were overhydrated.

Another study, published in the British Journal of Medicine in 2010 by James Winger, a physician in the Loyola University Health System, found that more than 40 percent of 197 runners surveyed in the Chicago area drank in preset amounts or even drinking all they could hold. Winger has described fatalities due to overdrinking of water during exercise as “essentially 100 percent preventable.”

The expert panel recommended treating EAH with a saline solution that is three times more concentrated than the normal saline solution given to patients for rehydration.

I think you’ve finally jumped the shark on this topic SSS. I’d still like to see you and Stuck do an article with you arguing the pros and Stuck arguing the cons of marijuana use.

How’s about you whip up some factual numbers regarding alcohol deaths versus THC deaths? Go ahead and limit the time period to the 1960’s thru present day or even 2005 thru 2015. Hell, I bet more golfers have been struck and killed by lightening than all others being killed by weed.

I’ve personally never heard of a death attributable solely due to THC toxicity. The dude in the article could have jumped off the balcony for many reasons and I certainly don’t trust “officials” whose job depends on toeing the line.

The last time I had an edible was a batch of fudge whipped up by a friend about a dozen years ago. Like the guy in the article, I experienced a significant delay in effects. I was taping drywall at the time. Once it kicked in I had to sit the fuck down to truly enjoy that buzz.

Drinking too much WATER has killed 14 people, new research has revealed

16:47, 30 June 2015
By Mirror.co.uk

Victims of water intoxication include marathon runners and football players – but deaths have occurred even during yoga and lawn green bowling

Careful: Drinking water has KILLED 14 people

At least 14 people have died from drinking too much water while doing sport, according to new research.

Victims of water intoxication include marathon runners and football players – but deaths have occurred even during yoga and lawn green bowling.

Those who are playing sports or exercising should drink only when thirsty and not “preload”, say experts.

Flooding the body with liquid, even sports drinks, can cause a life-threatening condition EAH (exercise associated hyponatremia).

And excessive fluid intake does not stop fatigue, muscle cramps or heat stroke.

Careful: Experts have warned not to preload on water before exercise

Dr James Winger, of Loyola University, Illinois, said: “Muscle cramps and heatstroke are not related to dehydration.

“You get heat stroke because you are producing too much heat.”

Mild symptoms include lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, puffiness and gaining weight during an athletic event.

More severe cases lead to vomiting, headache, altered mental status such as confusion, agitation and delirium, as well as seizure and coma.

It has occurred during endurance competitions such as marathons, triathlons, canoe races and swimming; military exercises; hiking; football; vigorous exercise during college initiation rituals; and even yoga and lawn bowling.

Deaths: People have died after drinking too much water while doing yoga

Athletes often are mistakenly advised to “push fluids” or drink more than their thirst dictates by, for example, drinking until their urine is clear or drinking to a prescribed schedule.

But excessive fluid intake does not prevent fatigue, muscle cramps or heat stroke.

There is no universal rule about how much water is too much, but the Mayo Clinic in New York suggests drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day – equivalent three and a third British pints.

But exercise calls for an extra 1.5 to 2.5 cups while during warmer temperatures and pregnancy people should drink more.

I’d wager that the majority here have at least tried the demon weed before forming an opinion instead of simply spewing the govt propaganda but your income depended on the propaganda so that explains a lot. Despite a career fighting weed like your owners told you to do, owners by the way who profited from the drug trade despite your “work”, it’s more prevalent than fucking ever! Talk about epic fail! I’d be obtuse about it too if my life’s work was for naught.

As you know I was never in favor of legalization but as with you I favored decriminalization. Would that have precluded a death, this death, by stupid behavior? Anything taken to extremes, including drinking too much water, is not good. In the words of an attorney friend, anyone can be sued by anyone at anytime for anything. So what’s you fucking point?

However, the TINY contribution I made to the mission is far more valuable to our understanding of the Universe than your efforts in fighting the epic fail of the War On Drugs. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m sure your efforts in your work were just as sincere as mine in my work. I did a lot of stupid things when I was young. Among them was getting in my car and driving when I was wigged out on some drug. I and my ‘641/2 Mustang were one. I knew exactly how far I could push it. I drove it drunk of course, but also on Acid and MDM, at night. Back then when given some drug at a party where I didn’t know many people I would get paranoid and just need to get out.

I would get in my car and head to the country and drive until I came down enough to figure out where I was. The flashing images of scenery kept my mind busy so I didn’t freak out. Never once did I even so much as run over an opossum. I did fail to negotiate a 90 degree turn once but fortunately for me, there was a dirt farm road I ended up on so I was okay. I wouldn’t recommend this behavior to anyone but my attitude back then (which I still believe is true), is that if you are determined to maintain, you can.

Jeez dude……..The Federal govt is defying Federal law at every turn. The Federal govt is bankrupting the US Treasury with it’s bullshit war on drugs that actually requires the drug trade to continue and grow. Fact is if the Federal govt had not usurped the Constitution way back when, it would have been up to the States to govern themselves in these matters. Instead, a culture of “leading” States on with funding and threats of removing that funding for not toeing the line further bankrupts the nation while simultaneously stealing our freedom. The people of CO voted on a matter that concerned them. Let the chips fall where they may.

Hopefully other states will take notice and follow a different path going forward. I think the govts of CO and WA saw it as a revenue generator plain and simple. With states going broke I look for more of the same predatory behavior. I’ll bet the Feds jump on the bandwagon and implement a Federal tax on weed.

The currently pacified conditions with the Federal Regulations regaurding Marijuana, will boil up at some point. The ‘pull’, International Treaties, have on the outcome, is unclear, either a Supreme Court Ruling or significant Congressional action will obliterate a UN Agreement, No?
Whatever treaty is signed, is ‘guidance’ at this juncture, because 1000’s of people are openly growing and selling weed right now, in public, without intervention of the Fed.

Like I referenced in my original comment, the real bottleneck is in the onboard computer/transmission speed. Still, New Horizons acquired so much data that it will take 16 months to send all that data out. Light time from Pluto to Earth is 4.5 hours (it’s only 8 minutes from Sun to Earth) and New Horizons is still cruising away from Earth at nearly 40,000mph so that time increases constantly.

I know the Globalist are chipping away at our sovereignty at every opportunity, with the Executive branch leading the charge, and the Legislative largely complicit, but the Supreme Court is the ultimate arbiter of Constitutional interpretation.
I am not suggesting they would, but the court could conceivably rule in Colorado’s favor in a shocking display of honor to the intent of the 10th amendment, ordering the abrogation of any conflicting treaty provisions.
All treaties are decidedly temporary, and of lower legal stature than the Constitution and the Justices interpretation of.
The Executive does not have the power to abrogate the Constitution through signing of treaties.
