Donald Trump — The Great Uniter

Guest Post by Monty Pelerin

Donald Trump has been called many things but the Great Uniter has not been one of them. However, his appearance on the political scene is creating a unification of sorts.

A Common Enemy

Nothing unites enemies more than a common foe who threatens harm to both. The Bloods and Crips are street gangs at war with each other, literally to the death. Merely being a member of the rival gang is reason enough to have your actuarial table altered. Even they unite when their joint existence is threatened. The most recent case was in Baltimore, although there are numerous other examples in other cities.

Our national version of  the Bloods and Crips — Democrats and Republicans — are joining forces against their common enemy, Donald Trump. Prior to his foray into politics, few would think of Trump as a great uniter. He doesn’t act like one, nor does he care to. However, he is a common threat to the plunder and pillage that both political parties have inflicted on the country. In that sense, they will unite against him. The media is also a major player in this game with interests in siding against Trump. David Limbaugh describes the current state of affairs:

The professional hand-wringers are freaking out over Donald Trump’s straight talk while displaying abysmal indifference to the deserved targets of Trump’s charges. The United States is incinerating, but all they can think about is Trump’s heated rhetoric.

Trump is resonating because, as a presidential candidate, he is giving public voice to many of the concerns that have Americans beside themselves.

Make no mistake about this. Regardless of what you may feel about The Donald, he scares the hell out of anyone who wants to maintain the status quo.

The Problem

Trump is a huge problem for the Republicans, Democrats and the media. He is saying, in his over-the-top braggadocious style, much of what ordinary Americans are feeling and wanting to be said.

Americans may not agree on the solutions, but they overwhelmingly agree that the country is going in the wrong direction.  Voters want things to change but no one in the political class is willing to admit that what passes for current wisdom is nothing but Washington doublespeak. No one is willing to risk offending someone for fear that they jeopardize their cushy income stream that results not from ability but political connection. Like the modern-day Mafia, enriching themselves at the expense of hard-working Americans, they prefer to remain in the background never taking a stand on anything. All the while they become richer at the expense of productive citizens.

beale3Trump is not a politician. He doesn’t need political office to become rich. He achieved that status without politics. How serious he truly is may be in question, but the impact he is having is not. He is this election cycle’s Howard Beale. (Watch Howard Beale’s speech and see whether it applies to today’s conditions, the way you feel and what attracts folks to Trump.) He breaks all the protocol of politics and he scares the hell out of the professional politicians.

Neither political party has been willing to address the issues head-on and in a no-nonsense fashion. Trump is doing so, whether you like his positions or bombast or not. He resonates with many because there is seemingly no other alternative to fixing the country. The public knows that they will only get more of the same from the political class.

Whether Trump would make a good president or not is moot. Given recent experiences with elections selecting someone by lottery might not be worse than those we elect.

I have no interest in voting for Trump (or anyone else for that matter). I do like what Trump is doing because he is rocking a boat that needs rocking or even sinking. Watch the ruling class unite against his threat. Listen to the squealing pigs whose preferred place at the trough is being threatened. That is music to my ears!

Trump the pigs!

He says he will wait and see how the Republicans treat him. If he suddenly becomes tame as a lamb, you can bet they made him an offer he can’t refuse.

Trumpest: 1) to boldly tell the truth even when it means stepping on TPTB’s shmeckle 2) a loose cannon that is blasting the enemy like an entire artillery battery 3) a modern Populist like Ronald Reagan or Ross Perot.

I think the entire Trump situation is really interesting. I have no idea what will happen. Trump is saying the right stuff but he is not letting religion pollute his message. If you listen to Cruz he is also saying the right stuff but it gets polluted with religion. He gave a really great speech in front of the Senate last week. If you have not seen it go watch it. Rubio cut his own throat with the gang of 8 immigration thing – very big mistake. Rand Paul is also interesting. I am not sure what to make of him yet. I do not hear enough from him. Jeb is basically a democrat – same as Hillary without as much amoral and crooked stuff. Christie was a good gov for NJ when he first got elected but he apparently got tired and fizzled out. Watch his speech at the Reagan Library on leadership. It is a good speech. What happened to that Christie ? Where did that guy go ? And then there is Trump. He is a little crazy but I do not believe you can make billions in the private sector and be stupid. I like Trump. I could vote for Trump – I vote every election. I held my nose and voted for Mitt. I had to force myself to vote for McCain – my great hope there was Palin. I voted for Bush twice before that. Bush had his problems for sure – big problems. But Obama, he is really bad and getting worse. I can’t believe he got elected twice. The second time he got elected I sat in front of the TV watching and drank half a bottle of Gray Goose and felt terrible for 2 days. I knew there would be trouble when he got reelected. Obama is doing a lot of bad things. Obama should not be president of America. He is the wrong guy. My wife and I went to Walmart today to pick up some stuff an as we were leaving I told her it was scary because these people might vote. Her response was “Yep”. And then there is Trump…

Can someone please turn the Trump channel? We know the emotional response Trump produces whenever he speaks. It would be refreshing to post other Republicans candidates views and/or voting records as well.

If Trump runs, he’ll get my vote, either as a Republican or as a Third Party.

If he doesn’t some other Third Party candidate will get it.

I have no intention at all of voting for any of the squishy mushies that are the Republican field and no Democrat will get my vote either because of their party platform they ascribe to.

Trump opposes all of the things I oppose and stands in favor of some of the things I stand in favor of. I can’t say that about anyone else.

Regardless of disagreement with any specific issue a candidate might have, it is important that the controllers of each Party want someone that follows the script. That is probably the biggest reason to aver to Trump.

The Dem’s (Obama) enriching the rich and mega-corps via QE and ZIRP.
The Rep’s (Bonehead and McConnell) forcing TPP thru CONgress.

They are all bought and paid for – why would you want to continue down the same path?

Precisely my view. Love him or hate him, Trump is doing what needs to be done: exposing the political class as a gang of corrupt, cowardly, unprincipled, greedy assholes. If all he manages to do is sow fear and chaos among them then he has done God’s work. In view of the Hillary meltdown, the fact that Bernie Sander is a seedy old shyster, Lindsey Graham is regarded as a real candidate, Scott Walker acts and looks like a K-Mart junior assistant manager and Jeb Bush is, well, Jeb Bush, who knows what will happen.

I despise the phony conservative party, but the Donald is the only one I’ve ever seen with a sack large enough to tell a shit-eating Marxist plant reporter to sit down and shut the fuck up…and for that I am grateful. Go Donald.

Is Trump getting US Secret Service protection? If I were in his shoes, I’d stick with my own personal security team. Who knows what “act” could befall Trump if he continues to climb in the polls? Let’s hope nothing sinister happens to him.

As commented on another Trump thread by John Angelo, if he ends up running on a 3rd party platform and splits the votes (15 Trump/35 Bush/35 Hellary), the winner won’t have a majority mandate.

I hope Trump is saying what he really thinks. It would be so refreshing.

I would love the people to know what Obama, Clinton, Bush et al really think. The US would go into meltdown if their true thoughts came out.

I’m beginning to think Jeb Bush is nearly as stupid as his brother. He is clumsy, often appears unprepared and says stupid shit.

Is Trump a test candidate? To see how far voters will swing? That would get us closer to a dictatorship?

Looking at ALL of the candidates, I find myself rooting for an Obama 3rd term.

when a non politician enters the fray the RATS circle the wagons to eliminate the threat to THEIR looting of this country……when a citizen population can sit by when JFK was ‘eliminated’ by this ‘gang’ of criminals,..and nothing is done..when 911 has 3 STEEL buildings come down for the ONLY time in history of steel Buildings…EVER…and nothing is done to these same criminals…..what chance does Trump have…..the line in the sand needs to be drawn and if the same results are ‘administered’ by these criminals…then the ‘Mussolini’ remedy may have to be considered to be the only solution to save this Republic….imho

It occurs to me that no matter what positions Trump or any other third party candidate takes on the issues, there is a conspiracy theory that proves that he’s just “controlled opposition”. So though I disagree with Trump about most things, particularly Israel and militarism, just the fact of his candidacy, and the fact that the “respectable” candidates are apparently going apeshit about it, does give me a ray of hope…
