Question of the Day, August 4

Do you still vote for the perceived lesser of 2 evils, i.e. Romney, McCain?

IMO, Trump is a one-trick pony: He’s pretty accurate about the problem of illegals. Outside, of that, many negatives.

The “why” of his popularity is shown in this cite from the Wall Street Journal, cited by Denninger:

“His rise is not due to his supporters’ anger at government. It is a gesture of contempt for government, for the men and women in Congress, the White House, the agencies. It is precisely because people have lost their awe for the presidency that they imagine Mr. Trump as a viable president. American political establishment, take note: In the past 20 years you have turned America into a nation a third of whose people would make Donald Trump their president. Look on your wonders and despair.”

“Contempt” strikes me as an accurate word.

IMO the USA is doomed. Only when we really hit bottom, and only then we may hear the wake-up call – that is if there are enough people who know how to rebuild.

There is no way to fix our current problem. Elected officials won’t act, they want to remain in power, and grow wealthy. We have so many rules / regulations that it is not possible to revise or sunset them. Each year we grow more and more top heavy.

There is no ‘one’ person who can change the Tower of Babble that we have built. We need the ‘Great Reset’.

Dutchman,
“An elected official isn’t simply “one” person, it is the representation of the majority of voters and what they want done.

The trouble with voting for “the lesser of two evils” is that people are still voting for evil.

It is no longer even possible to peacefully purge evil from our political and economic systems.

The police state built by Bush and Obama is not designed to protect the country from terrorism, but rather to protect government and corporations from the wrath of the people.

People can be lulled into complacency indefinitely, so long as their bellies are full of sugar and carbohydrates. The combination of obesity and diabetes, AKA diabesity, keeps people in line.

If the day ever comes when the masses are hungry, there will be one hell of a violent revolution. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to have croaked before that takes place.

Anonymous: “it is the representation of the majority of voters and what they want done.”

That’s the point – they don’t do what they are elected to do. They do what enhances their power and wealth.

As for the majority of voters – they don’t really know what they’re voting for.

Just vote for Satan and you’ll never again vote for a lesser of two evils …sarcasm off now .

I’ve vote in every election since I was legally able to do so . This next year I may sit it out…to do as Carlin said,”I withdraw my consent ” .

No. I’ll be voting for some third-party person. Not with any expectation that they win, but in the hope that whoever supposedly “wins” will have less than a majority of the popular vote, and suffer impaired legitimacy, so we can start moving this sinking ship towards the inevitable change in its structure. Kind of like the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the USSR.

I’m still surprised by the number of my friends and acquaintances who either say:
“If you don’t vote you lose your right to complain”
or
“If you vote for someone other than a democrat or republican you’re throwing your vote away”

Evil is evil. I will not vote for evil. If my choice is between two evils that have been put in place by super-pacs I damn well do have a right to complain regardless of whether I voted or not. I’m not the one throwing my vote away, it is all those people who vote for evil because they think a lesser evil is the best we can do. If they refused to vote for evil then we could potentially elect a choice who is not evil, but they refuse to listen.

Nothing will change or reform this government. Even after the coming economic collapse the population will be so divided between racial , class and political ideology that no change will be possible thru voting. That’s just the way the ruling class planned it.Only secession from The federal government can anything good be accomplished. It will destroy what’s left of the republic but going it alone will be the only way to get free from the government , the tax burden, the regulation burden and all the Debt.

And then there’s Bernie Sanders, the one guy out of the entire bunch of candidates who actually cares about the people he represents and isn’t a shill for the corporations.

And most of you wouldn’t even consider voting for him. Shameful, ain’t it?

I no longer vote at the Federal level. Fuck’em! They’ve been consolidating power and destroying this country since before I was born. They’ll be doing it without me lending them legitimacy with my vote.

’tis a shme Rand Paul isn’t a billionaire like Trump so he could buy his own airtime – if they’d allow him too.

Palin? Well at least her and Todd might create a drunken brawl in congress that would be like popcorn and beer interesting to watch.
