Question of the Day, August 27

Am I the only one who doesn’t read “anonymous” comments?

I always read them, most of the time they seem to be a regular who just forgot to sign on.

What is wrong with Anonymous comments? In this day and age being anonymous is a simple and very justified precaution. The substance of the comment is what counts. Not everybody wants to stick their head in a buzz saw.

So they make up a name then. When you have 2 or 3 anons commenting at once, you can’t possibly know who you are addressing.

Yes.

So you pay more attention to contrived personalities than what is said in the post?

Only if they are VERY short … two or three sentences … because I read very fast, and it’s almost impossible for me not to immediately see such brief comments.

But, even not reading them is ineffective when others comment on them.

I do not read long comments. Ever.

Anons are chicken-shit cowards, imho.

I always read them. Better to be Mr Anon than have friends hate you all the time and skip your comments every time. I’m no coward but why cause my name to become Mr Persona Non Grata..

Of course I don’t.

The closer to a real name someone uses, the more cautious they have to be in their statements. So I’d rather think that anony-moose comments would tend to be most honest.

Not to mention, that TBP endorses some conspiracy theories and lambastes others.

I tend to skim all comments only reading those that grab me or are relevant to my particular line of ranting.

As an aside: anyone else getting jerked down to the bottom of the page by a video ad? It happens sometimes when I’m reading or writing and it is very annoying.

Greetings,

Yeah, I read them. I also check out the links that people post. I’ve been turned on to a number of interesting podcasts (The No Agenda Show) or documentaries or other blogposts by the people here.

Thanks.

Nope! I file them under “assclowns” and move on. If the next message or two down the thread indicates it was a regular (non-assclown) I’ll go back and read it.

Skipping all the assclowns really speeds up the reading of TBP and reminds one of that old old TBP charm pre-assclowns.

Life is too short and I, and the world are suffering assclown fatigue.

On TBP? I read everything. It’s an entertainment medium, right?

On other Web sites, the number of “Anonymous” comments seems to rise in proportion to how much of a pain-in-the-ass it is to register and/or log on.

The operators of such sites either haven’t got the message about making their operations user-hostile and its correlation with click rates dropping.

Could give a crap whether u read this or not.

I COULDN’T give a crap whether you read this or not,
unlike Anonymous who COULD give a crap whether u read his post.

If you do care about crap, read W.H. Auden’s “Geography of the House” for a brilliant poetic reflection on that quotidian primal pleasure.
Guaranteed…If you don’t like poetry, you iconoclast posters and commentators will love Auden.
Type in “Geography of the House… Auden” on the Google search line.
Then print out the poem, frame it, and put it on the wall beside your toilet in your outhouse.
Here’s a taste of the treat.
“Seated after breakfast
In this white-tiled cabin
Arabs call the House where
Everybody goes,
Even melancholics
Raise a cheer to Mrs.
Nature for the primal
Pleasure She bestows.

Sex is but a dream to
Seventy-and-over,
But a joy proposed un-
-til we start to shave:
Mouth-delight depends on
Virtue in the cook, but
This She guarantees from
Cradle unto grave…..

Read Auden and you’ll become lovers of the Eratoic in no time.

We don’t have a local coffee shop, this is the closest thing for me so I read it all. Sometimes someone says something and you never heard from them before, but it’s a great observation- who cares who said it if it makes you think?

So for me, yeah, I read them, always.

Skipping comments from folks you judge as assclowns is a private pleasure that hurts no one. It is sort of like playing pocket pool, you smile and none the wiser. <-there a double meaning here, this is one of the rare times I will point out what should be obvious.

But I appreciate reading all kinds of opinions by identifiable personalities, in my mind's eye, I have seen the woods around HSF's compound. I've seen Stucky jerking off his magnificent purple pud of pleasure while commenting and researching articles. I've seen Billy suffering from a back operation. I've been on a rekkie mission with SSS. In the hospital with T4C. No, I wouldn't skip reading comments just because I don't like to waste my time, I'm here to waste time and acquire experiences I couldn't do if I read every reader's digest ever printed.

When somebody posts anonymously, it seems like there is some info missing, like labels on a graph, I am left wondering who can I attribute a comment to. I understand Stuck's displeasure, I'm left wondering when a particularly poignant quote is attributed to "Anonymous".

A heart felt shout out to “An Anonymous” for caring . As for the crap poet.
I always enjoyed these lyrics from the Femmes.

” I was thinking and a thinking ,till there was nothin I ain’t thunk .
Breathing in the stink.
Till finally I
STUNK.”
