Asteroid Coming for Halloween

Asteroid-10-31-2015

One of the closest flybys of an object will take place appropriately on Halloween. We don’t have to hide under the bed or run out and stockpile water and food, nor will it hit the Earth and rid us of politicians. So the end is not here. Historically, if it is a comet, in ancient times it will be an Omen or a major change in politics. That much may be appropriate.

The object 2015 TB145 wasn’t discovered until October 10th, so obviously we do not have a lot of warning if it were to hit. Nevertheless, this flyby may be a very interesting event. It’s going to come within 1.3 lunar distances of the Earth, and it measures some 1,300 feet in diameter. That suggests NASA at least will be able to get some very good photographs. If we can see it with the naked eye, that would be really something and more akin to an ancient omen.

I think I see Syrian refugees on it.

That 1.3 lunar distance is almost duck time in cosmic speak! A head shave!

At 1300 ft. diameter, depending on closest approach position (i.e. it may pass while the sun is up) you just might find it with binocs. Probably too small for neked eye but real toss up..

You gotta break a few eggs if you wanna make an omen.

Maybe it will be captured into earth orbit and can become a 21st century exile destination for our more notable neocons…

It will be visible in medium to high power binoculars. The larger the aperture the better as it will only brighten to mag 10.1. Motion will not be readily apparent but watching it for 5 minutes should reveal it’s motion. That’s assuming you’re watching the right “star” as it will appear as no more than a star even in a telescope. Best viewing will be between midnight and the onset of astronomical twilight.

Hope it lands on Pope Francis. Or Paul Ryan.

Impact either Chicago or LA or the Vatican. My wishful thinking.

IS ,how do you know these things about ..the universe ? Are you an astronaut? Are you a PHD in astrophysics? Ever been to outer space ? Ever been to the moon ,Mars or Jupiter ?

IS ,you always act as if you know something we don’t about this universe. Please tell us your experience and expertise .Your academic credentials. Your work related experience.

If not please stop all this foolish speculation. Thank you very much for your corporation.Your friend bb.

For a typical modern smartphone to be able to display more than one pixel of an object 1300 feet around, the object would have to be no more than roughly 1000 miles away. That number increases as the quality of the camera increases, but even the best isnt going to see more than a pixel at further than a few thousand miles. It wont see anything at lunar distances, which are two orders of magnitude greater.

421 ,I gave you a thumbs up even though I’m not sure what you said.Sounded good.

IS ,just giving you a hard time .I really enjoy your musing on the origins of the universe.

Hey Iconoclast421, get an attachment to mount your smartphone camera to the eyepiece of your telescope …

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Friggen Jupiter gets all the big comet action, and we get shit like this. Even if it air burst over NYC the death toll wouldn’t be nothing to write home about, a million…maybe two—–tops! We need something that’ll shake us up. We need the real deal. We need the Ayatollah of ELE-Ahs.

WE NEED SMOD 2016!!!! The Sweet Meteor Of Death will cure what ails ya!
