Courage

“The truly courageous do not live in anxiety from morning to night, they are calm because they know who they are.”

I’m interested in whether anyone on TBP can recognize this quote and where it is from (other than Billy).

I keep that book next to the dictionary. More relevant than anything I have ever read in dealing with life as it really is.

“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” Luke 12:22-26

With all respect, knowing who you are might not always prove to be the tonic one needs for courage. I am sure that the Jews shoved into the gas chambers were well aware of their identities. A strong belief in God, strong principles and a determination to act on them at all times might be a better formula for courage.

That one was too easy, even if I hadn’t actually read the book a couple of times over the years.

True story.

I once had a terribly anal and worthless manager and his key mantra was PLANNING!! He’d say shit like ‘if you fail to plan then plan to fail’ and every other fuckin’ cliche’ in the book. So, the new sales year is approaching and he wants a detailed plan on our strategies, tactics, engaging the enemy, blah blah blah fuckity blah blah. I really despised that motherfucker. Anyway, I finished my entire plan — about 8 pages iirc — in half a day. All I did was literally copy quotes from that book, as well as entire passages word for word, and throwing in just enough local stuff to make it look legit. He thought it was one of the very best plans he ever saw in his life. hahaha!! What a fucken maroon.

What wrong ?I thought none of you believed in spirits.

Let’s start over ….Be anxious for nothing , but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving , let your request be known to God .,and the peace of God ,which surpasses all understanding , will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7.

Much better . Right Harry ? No worries or anxieties.

That’s the word Dan Rather used nightly to sign off his newscast when he was in the anchor chair: “Courage”. He knew what was going on.

Sir Thomas More—Courage is when you know that your stand will surely result in your death and you stand for what is right, anyway!

Courage in Spanish is coraje which means simply rage. My grandpa said, where there is fear, there is no ‘rage’ or courage.

You make too much of the word. It means that people of valor (which means ‘worth’ in Spanish) react with righteous rage where the majority merely tremble.

All the other shit from the iChing and self-help books is just so much masturbation, if you have balls, you have testosterone, and testosterone is enough.

Then David spoke to the men who were standing by him, saying, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?”
