Now if they could just find the killer.

Police in Los Angeles are testing a knife recovered on a property once owned by O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted in the murder of his former wife and her friend, the Los Angeles Police Department said on Friday.

The department is investigating the Buck knife with a retractable blade, which was apparently turned over to a police officer a number of years ago by a construction worker at the property, the Los Angeles Times newspaper reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

The knife was found on the grounds of the house where Simpson lived at the time of the murders. The house, in the posh Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, has since been razed.

Los Angeles Police spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said the agency’s Robbery Homicide Division was investigating. She declined to provide further details.

Simpson, a retired pro football Hall of Fame running back for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills, was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, in Los Angeles. Simpson later lost a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the victims’ families.

Simpson’s ex-wife and Goldman were stabbed multiple times in the neck and head but the murder weapon was never found at the time of the nine-month long trial that ended in 1995 with his acquittal.

Simpson cannot be prosecuted again for the two murders because that would constitute double jeopardy.

Simpson is now in prison on a 2008 armed robbery conviction related to the robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas hotel.

While the knife was turned over a number of years ago to police, detectives are now investigating its history and checking it for hair and fingerprints, TMZ, the celebrity gossip website, reported.

This far down the line and with no chain of evidence to show anything in relation to OJ, unless both his fingerprints/DNA and Nicole’s blood are found on it any results will be pretty much meaningless and a waste of time to look for them.

He’s already been acquitted anyway so there is nowhere to go with this.

First thoughts on this one…

“At this point what difference does it make?” – Hillary Clinton

“Who the hell cares?” – Peter Griffin

Second thoughts on this one..

Isn’t some cable channel running a TV series based on the O.J. Simpson murder trial right now? This smells a lot a like a publicity stunt to boost viewership of said TV series.

The kids OJ had with Nicole (and even his kids from his first wife) must go through some terrible mental gymnastics if they’re still trying to maintain the delusion that he didn’t kill her. He should have just killed himself when he was in the Bronco.

Just a coincidence that this happens so many years later but when a TV mini-series is playing about the OJ trail?

I smell a publicity stunt…

(didn’t see Cricket’s comment before I posted mine–guess I’m not the only one who is suspect about this)

I hope there is some sort of support group out there for the children of parents who murder each other, because it surely happens often, and I can think of only a few things that would be more difficult to deal with emotionally than the knowledge that one of your beloved parents murdered the other. The child is completely orphaned, and children in this position often wonder what they themselves did to contribute to the situation that came to such a pass. It’s difficult enough to deal when you realize your parents do not love each other.

It must be worse when your parents are public figures and the horrible event is being thrust into your consciousness constantly, when you’d just like to put it behind you.
