Social Security would be just fine if …………..
The LBJ administration didn’t dump the SS receipts into the treasury’s general income fund, and ………
Congress had the balls to 1) address actuary realities such as people are living longer and pass adjustments to benefit collection accordingly, 2) face up to the fact that the ratio of beneficiares is catching up to workers paying into the system, and 3) significantly raise the limit on taxable Social Security income.
My folks consider themselves staunch conservatives; both are retired.
But nothing brings out their inner socialists like a conversation about Social Security.
It’s the Common Core of Retirement Systems.
The Boomers only started retiring at 65 y.o. FIVE years ago (2011 – 1946 = 65). Sorry, not Common Core, but you get where I’m coming from!
There will be lots more Boomers retiring as the population bulge makes its way through the economic Python – lots more.
Having paid into Social (in)Security, they will want what they are due.
