Biden and Warren: The Democratic Ticket in 2016?

Would Joe and Liz stand a better chance than Cankles of beating the Donald?

Guest Post by Robert Gore at Straight Line Logic

Here’s an interesting speculation; reader comments welcome. What if the Democratic party comes to realize that Hillary Clinton is an albatross? Polls indicate that Bernie Sanders would do better against Donald Trump. If he is not the nominee, a few of his supporters will switch to Trump or Clinton, but many of them will stay home. Clinton, SLL recently argued, is a perfect set up for Trump’s unpredictability and personal attacks. She lacks natural political skills and is vulnerable on both issues and scandals. She is establishment and an ardent foreign interventionist. Trump made mince meat of a slew of establishment, ardent foreign interventionist Republicans. He’s narrowing the gap with her in national polls, and has caught up with her in key states Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida.

The email scandal hangs over Clinton’s head. The FBI has interviewed her close associates and will probably interview her. Bryan Pagliano, who designed her private email server, has received immunity from prosecution in return for his testimony. The cynical assumption, and still the betting favorite, is an FBI recommendation to seek an indictment against Clinton will be quashed by President Obama’s Justice Department. Even that outcome cannot be regarded as favorable for Clinton. Many will conclude that it’s the establishment taking care of its own, a key issue propelling both Trump’s and Sanders’ campaigns. There is also the strong possibility that someone in the FBI leaks damaging material that was the basis of the rejected recommendation, compounding the damage to Clinton.

For argument’s sake, assume Obama and the Democrat’s movers and shakers conclude that Hillary is a liability. Say they let the primaries play out and Clinton has a majority of delegates and committed super delegates. However, suppose a subtle message goes out to the FBI: the administration will follow whatever the FBI recommends and would not be overly upset if that was indictment. Were it to happen, Clinton would presumably have to abandon her candidacy.

Does that clear the way for Bernie Sanders? Not if the movers and shakers have their way. He is about as popular with them as Donald Trump is with his party’s establishment. Joseph Biden made a couple of interesting comments recently. He said he thought he would have been the best presidential candidate had he chosen to run, and he also said he and Elizabeth Warren discussed her as his running mate. Trial balloons? What if Clinton, upon announcing her withdrawal, released her delegates to vote for Joseph Biden and Elizabeth Warren, who had agreed, for the good of the party and the nation, to accept a last-minute draft?

The key is Obama. For him this would be the best possible outcome. His vice president is far more likely to preserve his tattered legacy than Clinton, who would want to carve out her own historical niche. Biden is not a polarizing figure, like Clinton, and does not have her scandalous baggage. His long string of goofy statements will be ignored by the press, as they always do for Democrats. He is a centrist Democrat and would champion mainstream Democratic policies. Having Warren on the ticket as his vice president would keep the gender-based vote on board. It would make her the automatic favorite for the Democratic nomination in 2020 (when Biden will be seventy-eight years old) or 2024. She’s very liberal and has been a strident critic of Wall Street and the banks, which will help with disgruntled Sanders supporters.

It might make the Democratic convention messier, it might take more than one ballot, and there would be those disgruntled Sanders supporters, but a Biden-Warren ticket stands a better chance against Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton. Sanders supporters would have three months to get over it. They are more ideologically aligned with the Democrats than the Republicans. Not to say that Biden and Warren aren’t establishment tools, but they haven’t been as blatant about it as Clinton, making them more palatable to the Sanders crowd.

Biden and Warren are much less vulnerable to Trump’s attacks than Clinton. Biden has been the vice president for eight years and was a senator for thirty-six, with stints as chairman of the Foreign Relations and Judiciary Committees. On paper he’s qualified. He has a genial personality and is a known, safe, quantity. Warren has made a name for herself and attracts substantial support from the party’s far left wing. Biden and Warren give the Democrats a much better chance of winning the election—with a coat tail effect for Democratic Congressional candidates—than Clinton. Were this scenario to play out, the election would have to be rated a toss-up and not, as SLL said in the recent article, “Trump’s to lose.”

There is one final consideration. Obama loathes the Clintons and the feeling is mutual. If Clinton is indicted, he will showcase the indictment as proof that his Justice Department does not politicize investigations. Hillary will be in a heap of expensive, lengthy, and risky legal trouble. Wouldn’t Obama relish the prospect of the Clintons groveling for a prospective pardon like Gerald Ford granted Richard Nixon? He would extract from Hillary a promise to release her delegates (and campaign contributors) to the Biden-Warren ticket and from both of them a promise to give it their heartfelt support. Assuming Obama held up his end of the bargain (not a safe assumption), he would issue the pardon after the election to minimize the political fallout. Democrats would be happy to put the matter behind them. Only Republicans would complain and for Obama, that’s the cherry on the sundae.

Something to think about.

Don’t be too concerned. Trump’s been game planning that scenario for a long time. http://www.newsmax.com/t/newsmax/article/670161

Biden is a doddering old fool, an amusing gasbag, to be sure, but an international joke (though, let me say, a man miles ahead of Obama in character, ordinary decency, and, I think, love of country). As for Warren, better known as Chief Bear-Who-Shits-In-Woods, she is a complete dingbat, as would become quite obvious five minutes into her campaign. No, the Democrats have the candidates they deserve: a worn out, corrupt, cackling old witch who doesn’t know shit from Shinola about the real business of government and a crazy old Jew who belongs back in the Garment District passing out Yiddish language Commie rags. Trump would eat either of them alive.

So a guy who had to plagiarize his way into the bottom 10% of a mediocre law school and a dictator wannabe as the ticket. We would be doomed.

Warren would be our first injun princess VP! Wonder if the redskins would be slobbering for her like the kneegrows were slobbering for the HNIC? Naw, injuns know the score when it comes to govt promises.

Interesting and well thought out possibility Robert.

I do think there’s something else that might be at play. I believe cankles and obozo have mountains of dirt on each other, and the more time that passes that the hag isn’t indicted makes me think this even more.

She thinks it’s her turn. I don’t see her going away quietly.

Indeed, food for thought.

And funny that they keep us guessing.

A lot of talk going on about this lately. Good, thought provoking piece. It will be interesting to see if the Russians really do have her emails, as judge Napalitano says, and if so, if they choose to release them. I agree that Clinton and Obama have mountains of dirt on each other. The amount of skeletons in killarys closet has to be enough to make a zombie army. The Obama thing is interesting, what does she have? Proof he wasn’t born here, proof he went to school on foreign exchange scholarships, who the fuck knows. I just find it hard to believe that of she really had that kind of dirt, she wouldn’t have released it in 2008, when she could have destroyed him and become president instead. That kind of restrain doesn’t seem very Clinton-esque.

As far as Biden/warren goes, they might be able to pull it off. Biden is the consummate insider, and as the OP states, his stupid statements are written off as ‘good ole uncle joe’ and other such nonsense since he is a democrat. All the establishment types will jump onboard. Warren is completely full of shit, especially her ‘I’m an Indian give me a job’ bullshit, but she is a free shitter almost to the same degree as sanders. Most of his supporters want free shit, and she will promise many of the same things, so sanders young supporters would be on board. That would be much tougher on trump, IMO.

Greetings,

It is fun to speculate but I see this going all the way to election day as a Hillary vs. Trump event. See, it doesn’t matter if you have a Mt. Everest sized pile of dirt on Clinton as her supporters are too brain dead to understand any of it. I mean, many do not have the fundamental language skills to even understand what is going on. Look at her base – just look at it. It is the establishment and the half retarded victim class and neither one cares about her crimes.

How the worm turns..

Not so long ago it was all about It was machinations about how to run Trump out of town on a rail. How he was unelectable. Too much baggage. Now the scandals plaguing the Clintons might finally find their mark.

Not soon enough in my opinion.

Hildabeast cannot come close to beating Trump, so yes, the establishment will remove her. They will not let Trump take the office easily. He will still beat a Biden/WaWaWaWarren ticket though.

Doesn’t matter though, nothing will change. We are doomed to a financial collapse that will make the 30’s look like a carnival. A society cannot have $200TT in debt with a GDP of $18TT(bullshit, when bank profits and goobermint spending is removed, maybe $12TT) and survive.

Don’t think there will be an election in November. Somebody will get killed, or US will get something going with those islands the Chinese are building.

This scenario has been on my mind since the primaries began in February, and I think it looks more likely by the day. I think it is one reason Biden chose not to run in the primaries- why do that when you have an easier path?

Robert: excellent, thought provoking article. This could very well come to pass. However, Hitlery will not go easy into the good night. She and her POS husband want the White House so badly they can taste it. I’m still planning on a gun-grabbing, FSA supportive Gimmiecrat becoming our next “president”. Anyone see where Presidente fox is threatening war if The Donald is elected? Will be a very interesting summer!

The Hildebeest is an exceedingly weak candidate. She is a pathological liar like her husband, except that she has no political skills and she has no substantive record of accomplishment. Rather, one could argue that she has a long record of failed efforts (1994 health care reform, and the fiascoes in Ukraine and Libya as Sec of State). Her only real advantages are that (1) the Clintons have always successfully bamboozled the poor stupid kneegrows into voting for them, and (2) at the national Democratic party level, the fix is in for the nasty bitch.

Hitlery’s biggest problem is Hitlery. Every time she opens her mouth it costs her votes. So, if the lying termagant Hitlery is the Democratic nominee, I think that the combination of Hitlery’s lies plus the agitation from the Mexican and Chinese governments against Trump would ensure a Trump landslide in November. We Americans really don’t like it when foreign countries try to dictate to us.

It gets more complicated if Bernie is the Democratic nominee. Young people know how badly the economic deck is stacked against them (unpayable student loans, crummy job prospects, unaffordable housing), which is a big reason they favor Bernie so heavily. If Bernie is the nominee, young people show up at the polls like they did for the Obummer in 2008. The race is much, much closer but I think Trump still wins by a whisker.

A Biden-Sanders ticket is a huge wild card. A lot would depend on how many serious gaffes come from Biden’s mouth. Remember that Jerry Ford almost pulled out a win against Jimmy Carter in 1976, and it was probably Ford’s huge gaffe in the debates (that the Soviet Union’s satellite states in Eastern Europe were actually ‘free’) that cost him the election. Still, a Biden-Sanders ticket would likely make the race too close to call, but I think Biden could pull it out and win handily.

My own view is that the Republicans deliberately threw the 2008 election to Obama by nominating McCain-Palin, figuring the Democrats would get tagged with Great Depression 2.0. But they underestimated the ability of the Federal Reserve to short-circuit the trajectory of the depression with zero interest rates and trillions in money-printing. Still, the accumulated weight of 8 additional years of nonstop economic and financial fraud is getting ready to come home to roost, probably in 2016 or 2017.

I think the Democrats see the next economic crisis coming fast, so my guess is the Democrats go ahead and nominate Hitlery to throw the election to Trump, letting the Republicans get tagged with Great Depression 2.0.

I guess someone worse than Hillary could show up. I still say the coming economic collapse will show up no matter who is in power. At least Trump hasn’t openly said he would grab guns like Hillary.

Interesting and thought provoking article. Thanks. Here’s my scenario. The FBI will recommend to the AG that charges be brought against Clinton. Almost guaranteed. Doesn’t matter what Obama and the AG do at that point, The Bitch is toast. The default candidate is Sanders. Period. Think about it. Trump will proceed to bury him.

The irony of the far-left bank-hating Elizabeth Warren is that her chair at Harvard Law School is funded by Goldman Sachs and JPMChase… I read somewhere that she takes home about $350k from them, all the while pretending to go medieval on their asses… If true, Donny would have a field day exposing that set of facts to the public. Also, Biden looked like an absolute fool during the last election cycle in his debate with Ryan… He wouldn’t be able to pull that off again with Donny loaded for bear…

My prediction, which I have made before:

As Hilliary continues to do so poorly compared to Sanders (see the youtube videos of the Dem convention in Las Vegas), Obama will let the FBI investigation go forward. The Obamas loathe the Clintons and he will let her candidacy move forward ONLY if he thinks she can win and thus “preserve” his legacy.

(whatever the fuck his legacy is, but whatever)

If she continues to be so awful, the investigation will move forward enough to either derail or taint her candidacy to the point where the DNC convention will be a madhouse.

Then, the “white knight”, Biden will emerge, likely with Warren or another progressive female candidate, maybe Kamala Harris, the Attorney General from California.

Book it.
