This is exactly the formula for coughs that I was raised with and with which I raised my children. Works great, cost is minimal and you don’t need a doctors prescription to get it. If there are ingredients in cough syrup you can’t pronounce, that does not necessarily mean it will be more effective.
I remember that my mother would mix the above ingredients and heat them in a small black cast iron skillet , blending and heating slightly makes the taste smoother.

That’s the same prescription that I use when I get a cough. Of course, no teaspoons are used.

The ironic thing is that the prescription is actually effective at breaking congestion and quelling coughing.
I read a couple articles a few weeks ago that showed the studies done on modern cough syrups and they fair no better than placebos.
Honey and lemon both stops my daughter’s cough and when mixed with pure filtered water makes one helluva refreshing drink.
And, of course, adding the whisky makes it a great adult beverage, yum.
