OK, I have degrees in engineering and comp sci. I am the guy who used to do the partial differential equations for the EAI analog computers. That is the most fucking, absurd, confusing question I’ve ever encountered. If someone asked me that, I’d hit’em upside the head.

The very term “how do you make” – that’s not a mathematical term you will find in any book. I can think of no problem where you want to have an intermediate sum for the sum of two numbers.

This is just like the fucking Trans shit – it’s all about confusing people, to dumb them down, so they don’t ask questions.

It’s worse than that–trying to confuse a child’s mind. Sinful and insane. What is driving this craziness?

Dutch….that is the purpose of Common Crap, to dumb down the education so that it lowers the requirements to achieve greatness while it raises the grades of the not too bright or more likely the ones that never try.

The schools will have better grade averages for the chillun and the school administrators and teachers won’t have to falsify the scoring data to keep receiving funds for excellence.

Yup -time to send the social studies crowd to the corner. People who can’t solve for x in a simple algebraic equation have no business having any role in the affairs of government. It’s downright embarrassing that these morons get away with what they do. The so-called “educated arts” crowd are about as smart as a sack of hammers, and that means pretty much everyone in politics and the bureaucracy.

Wait, take two from five and add it to eight, isn’t that still 10+3?
Then add 3, so 16?
Why take two from five, what did the eight do? Why not take two from eight and add to the five then add three more 7+6=13 then add three more, goddammit back to 16.

The clue must be in the “make” 10. So it’s up to the student to ignore math and just do it.

Yes, once you look it up on the interweb this is a real question and some real answers to critics from core educators:

“It’s poorly worded. What the question should say, is something along the lines of “Using the ‘make tens’ strategy, rewrite the equation for 8 + 5 and solve”.
The student should write 8 + 5 = 8 + 2 + 3 = 10 + 3 = 13.
It’s not a hard concept and one that is familiar to anyone who has used Singapore Math.”

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh say what?

“Yes, the problem here is the ambiguity.

“Make 10” is a strategy… it’s a term of art that involves being situated inside a certain sort of problem-solving framework.
It’s not the same as “Make.” (“How much?”) “Ten.”
The problem is that the younger the student with whom you work, the more likely you are to run into students who are still working on processing instructions on the literal level.”

So………..math is not math anymore, it’s art.

Got it………..not really.

Look CARD802 – it’s Singapore Maff.

If you don’t get the right answer do they cane you? Fuck Singapore – some turd world country.

Those Neegrows in the ghetto can’t add 2 + 2, can’t remember who’s their dad. How the fuck are they going to do this?

This type of teaching completely ignores the fact that our brains have the capacity to memorize. Addition or multiplication of two digits has been memorized for centuries. Hell, I do it in octal or hexadecimal all the time.

Trump is correct – there is an assault on America – shit like this and the ‘bathroom’ people prove it.

I was a HS math teacher and I swear to God I was given many retarded kids in normal classes that couldn’t read or add 8 and 5 but I was required to pass them anyway. Have some pity on the poor teacher caught between the Principal and PC. Evidently the teacher is trying to teach retarded kids a method of adding two simple numbers by skimming off enough of the smaller number to get to 10 and then adding what’s left to ten. They will never master multiplication and division. Why didn’t the kid get partial credit?

This nonsense comes from university academics in Colleges of “Education” who have to publish this kind of hogwash in order to get tenure. This particular example is even worse than the “New Math” fad of the 1960s.

What is mind-boggling is that supposedly intelligent people fall for this crap because it is promulgated by so-called ‘experts.’ No wonder the average American has become a blithering idiot who is utterly devoid of common sense.

Two telling admmissions in the video below, #1 that Common Core is inferior. #2, that it was created based on white guilt (lol what a cucksucker).

(runs 00:01:26)

#1, if schools are free to use “higher standards” doesn’t that mean that Common Core is, de facto, a lower standard? Why would anyone in their right mind want their children taught to lower standards?

#2, Teach new math/english that parents can’t help with to level the playing field so that students are competing directly with each other instead of gaining competitive advantage at home. Given the demographic it is intended to help, this basically means; implement a system that white parents can’t help their children with. This then, in turn, puts them on par with “underprivileged” counterparts in single family households where undereducated guardians are (or more likely are not) involved with the child’s education {disclaimer, this is my interpretation of the motives, not an ideology I subscribe to}. This reveals, in no uncertain terms, that progressives are the true racists, lowering standards because they believe minorities cannot compete on an equal basis without intervention.

There is only one way to make everyone equal. It is impossible to raise everyone to the highest standards to achieve equality, it simply cannot be done due to financial, cultural and intellectual limitations. The only way to achieve equality is to bring everyone down to the lowest level, or perhaps slightly above it. Of course to accomplish this, the standards and traditions of the most advanced group(s) must be destroyed…ain’t socialist egalitarianism grand!

Doing this shit to children ought to be a higher crime than murder. Murder of a child would be more compassionate that condemning them to a life of ignorance and stupidity. tRump will fix it right?

Uh—did anyone notice that the teacher’s reply actually adds up to eleven, not ten, anyhow?

She said, ” take two from five” ( which leaves 3) and add it to 8…… 3+8= 11 in my universe……

Common core’s purpose must be to make our posterity stupid, malleable and compliant because I know it sure makes my head hurt and I feel like I need to shut off for a while…..

I have a kid on elementary school (not in America, but this progressive leukaemia has infected all the west from Greece to California so is about the same). I have a more tinfoil thought about this situation. It is not to dumb them down. Smart boys will get through and become doctors, engineers, and the like as competent as our generation are. In our generation there are also guys with an IQ comparable to a brick. Not everyone was brilliant in our generation.
I think that the real purpose is to separate them from their family. I remember that when I had a math problem I could ask my dad (who was a lawyer) and get a decent answer about how to add, subtract, multiply. A little less with trigonometry (in that case I would go to my uncle who was a surveyor). Now, with this “new” math, I cannot answer my sub 10 year old kid’s questions without studying myself. And I am an engineer that had participated in math Olympics when younger.
I thing the issue is not to dumb them down, Is to make the older generations look dumb and wrong before their eyes.

My Dad did math in his head and encouraged me to do the same. I flunked math several times in high school because I wouldn’t show my work on paper. OK, I’ll hush now.

Having lived with this crap, I can tell you the real reason is to get the child to give up. They take the will to learn out of the child. Hence, the reason there are democrats, no logic is ever learned anymore.

My son’s elementary school teacher listed an answer he had provided (“Is 3/4 > the 2/3”) as wrong.

I sent a note to school with him the next day that pointed out her obvious oversight, which I attributed to her simply being too busy grading papers. She sent the note back replying to the effect, “No, she was not incorrect.”

I made an appointment to meet with her and when we sat down, asked, “Is 75% greater than 66%?” She understood what I was implying, that she had gotten her response wrong and a little embarrassed, said she ‘correct the matter.’ How? By going back to grade school?!

Two weeks later my son comes home with a science question that had asked if the moon was a satellite? He had responded that it was, and again, another teacher marked it as wrong.

We took him out of public that week, along with our other two kids and have been homeschooling ever since.

The public school system in this country is a sad joke, promulgated on the public to instill obedience and simple-minded conformity.

Conformity to what? An entire social system that is unraveling (by design) at it’s very core?

No thank you. “I’ll have exactly none of that shit,” and neither will my children be forced to endure it.

My Great-Grandfather was taken from his family when he was 6 or 7 years old and put in a “School for Indian Children”, as they called it back then. He got out when he was 16 when his uncle got him a job with the Hudson Bay Co. in North Ontario as a book keeper.

When he was grown with children, working as a book keeper for a railroad, my grandmother and her sisters would skip school, and come to his office at the train station for a written excuse to take to their teachers. When Great Grandma fussed at him about it he said that he’d had to go to school behind bars, and his girls didn’t have to go if they didn’t want to.

I hated every minute of every day I spent in public school. All I learned there was to despise that whole system and to find ways to escape it.
