Brazil is spending $40 billion on the games but never got around to cleaning up the polluted sewage-laden water where the distance swimmers will be competing. Being an Olympic athlete seems to require overcoming environmental hazards as part of the mix. There was the smog and general air pollution of Beijing, now the water pollution in Rio, and coming up in 2020, the potential of Fukushima radiation in Tokyo.
