DrugSense Drug War Clock
Current Time
Federal Spent
State Spent
Total Spent
All Drug Arrests
Cannabis Arrests
Imprisoned

Above is a clock showing how successful the War on Drugs has been YTD. We are spending $40 billion per year on the War on Drugs. Here are a couple of facts from the data above:

  • Cost per arrest is $24,497
  • Cost per non-marijuana arrest is $50,615
  • Cost per person imprisoned is $3,767,706

Based upon the facts above, the legalization of marijuana would save taxpayers about $20 billion per year. If we allowed it to be taxed, it would generate a few billion in tax revenue.

Is the war on marijuana worth it? Can we afford to fight this war? I wonder what SSS thinks?

Marijuana leads to cocaine which leads to heroin which leads to excessive masturbation which leads to becoming a homo.

Do you really want your children to play Spank the Monkey in your basement until they are in their 20′s? Of course not. You want your boys to get pussy, and your girls to get cock.

Not having a homo offspring is worth about $4 million dollars, so the economics you posted above are moot.

Those statistics don’t tell the whole story. You have to factor in the profits made by the private prison industry and the savings that the prison labor force supplies to the military industrial complex. Then you have to think about the TBTF no longer laundering drug money and you see how the entire economy would collapse.

    S

i have backed off from the ongoing arguments about drugs. because i am confident that you understand the positions and ideas that i hold, you disagree, and my restating and repeating them is not going to move you. and vice versa.

however, i am moved to bring up something. in the peacock thread, you had this to say about poverty:

—So the real problem is poverty? Well, Lyndon Johnson stated the “War on Poverty” in the mid-1960s nearly a half-century ago. Public Housing. Food stamps. School lunches. And on fucking infinitum. How’s that working out for poverty, trillions of dollars later? Slightly worse than the 60s.

Get a clue. “Government isn’t the solution to problems, government is the problem.” Compliments of Ronald Reagan—

if we substitute ‘illegal drugs’ for ‘poverty’, you get one of the main arguments we ‘pro-drug’ folks have to offer. including the reagan caution.

forgive me if i misrepresent your view, but i believe you have responded to this argument that ‘even more money must be spent on enforcement and interdiction’. (please correct me if i have this wrong.)

yet, i am going to go one step further, and assume you would not suggest such action (more money, more resources) devoted to anti-poverty government measures.

i am very serious in this~i do not intend to try to change your mind, or to try to ‘win’ an argument on the internet.

i am sincerely interested in how you differentiate these two situations. just because i do not see a difference (and i do not), does not mean differences do not exist. and i speak only of efficacy–not import, moral imperative, or any other need for action. only efficacy, and/or alternative effective measures.

i will assume we agree drug addiction is a holy fucking terror, a mortal threat to society as well as to the individual. as is poverty (although the definition is dicey, and actually i believe the war on poverty was a success; the war on ignorance, horrible schools and job opportunities, not so much. but starvation and homelessness of non-mentally ill folks is a hell of a lot lower than in the 60s in america, but i digress.).

You crossed a line, twice, by double posting that picture of Salma. You must understand one simple rule here on TBP. Posting photos of Salma Hayek are under my exclusive purview. Thank you for your understanding.

Administrator, do you realize what your proposal would do to the police departments, criminal justice system, and prisons in this country? Ending the war on drugs would lead to tens of thousands of state and federal layoffs. The U. S. already has an unemployment problem. Do you want to make it worse? One can only hope that the powerful public employee unions will nix any effort to reduce public spending which is so important for the health of our economy.

Remember that Nobel Price economist, Paul Krugman, has said that a decline in government employment and inadequate federal spending is the cause of our sputtering economy. (Business Insider 10.11.10.)

It’s a good thing Casey Anthony wasn’t caught growing or selling marijuana or she’d still be in prison today. Casey Anthony walks free today. Dr. Mollie Fry is two months into a five year federal prison sentence, she and her husband bankrupted from court costs, lawyer fees, and appeals. Upon release in 2016, they’ll be approaching age 60 with a felony record and forbidden to work in the professions they’ve worked all their lives. Caylee Anthony is dead, her killer unpunished, while two fifty-something grandparents are punished for following a state law in order to help severely ill people.

    AwholeDr

The story on “Dr” Mollie Fry just breaks my heart. She said to the press, “Cannabis is proven medicine. Why would the state of California create laws based on what the people want, and then allow the federal Government to override them?” Fry asks. “We were growing medicine. I was helping people.” Stupid bitch didn’t even bother to check federal laws on growing marijuana plants and was doling out Mary Jane to 215 so-called patients!! And she can’t even understand the supremacy of federal over state law.

Dr. Fry’s license to practice has been revoked for some time now, as has her husband’s license to practice law. Christ, these two are in the running for Stupid Is As Stupid Does. In my view, when your license to practice medicine is revoked, you’re not a doctor anymore, and you can’t claim you have “patients.” As I said, stupid bitch.

“And she can’t even understand the supremacy of federal over state law.”

“when your license to practice medicine is revoked, you’re not a doctor anymore”

The key phrases in your quote.

I see a slight discrepancy there. The ability to distinguish bullshit Federal laws over existing state laws. Let’s see, even the U.S. Attorney general (Eric “dick” Holder) is unable to enforce, or chooses not enforce, Federal laws in California.

So a person must have a license to be a doctor? Not a medical school education and diploma? By your reasoning, the state is responsible for determining who is a doctor? That’s frightening. So, when I go to Africa, I’m supposed to get a license there? Just because her license was taken away, doesn’t delete her desire to “help” other people nor delete her medical knowledge. Fuck helping other people, they should all be thrown in jail.

Somebody trying to help somebody else= stupid bitch.

Catching pot users may be a simple by-product of catching other drug criminals, and so may in reality cost very little. Kind of like when I spend $1000 fishing for tuna and catch some mackerel. Throwing back the mackerel will not reduce the cost of catching tuna.
