These can give you a flavor of what we experienced yesterday. Avalon took these videos with her camera. She waded into the fray. She and Michael have spent a good chunk of today getting them on Youtube so you could see them. The first is in the morning at Zuccotti Park as the protestors prepare to march on the banks. The rest are all from Times Square at night. The speakers say three or four words and those around them scream them so the crowd can hear what they are saying. This is because the police don’t allow bullhorns or speakers. The phone number they shout out is for the Lawyers Guild. The report that protestors were being arrested at 47th spurred this episode. The protest stretched 5 long blocks.

you picked a good day to visit, admin.

i skipped yesterday, i had stuff to do and had a guest coming for dinner. but mostly, i had a feeling things might get rough yesterday, and i didn’t want to risk arrest or my head cracked yesterday.

(i am willing to on some occasions, like tuesday when the action was in my neighborhood. but not yesterday.)

between the streaming video OWS is providing, and the various web cams all around times square normally, i had a great view of the action. it got really close to blowing, the cops were thisclose to blowing it and needlessly arresting people at 47th and seventh. very very high up brass in the nypd stepped between the line of cops and the crowd and backed the cops off. to the applause of the crowd. that was at around 7:30pm i think. amazing how scared and stupid the cops were; at least the top guys have brains.

the incident that yielded the largest number of arrests at once was over on sixth avenue. i think 42 arrests or so. i did not see what happened; the best webcam of the action was from the building where Fox News is located. i had just commented on the irony of fox providing an excellent view of the peaceful OWS protest, when they cut the feed.

I’ll never say never but look, I grew up in the sixties. Went to Berkeley. Revolution was in the air for real then. Hardcore. Huey Newton and his negroes were parading about in black leather and shotguns and shooting cops! It wasn’t play acting. Patty Hearst got kidnapped and ransom demands sent to her father. Electrical transmission towers in Contra Costa County were being blown up. You could get 50,000-500,000 people on the streets on any weekend. It didn’t do anything but get Nixon elected. He was actually a liberal in disguise but you gotta be careful. It could’ve been Agnew his Veep and I doubt it would have gone down so gently.

OWS isn’t near critical mass. It does have an advantage in that it has not yet disgusted the average American. I’m not opposed to it but unless it starts to focus on Ben Bernanke instead of his stooges I’m skeptical.

hey, they never pinned that cop murder in sf on the panthers. all the other incidents, the panthers were returning fire.

(those guys were heroes to me in my teeniebopper years. much to the chagrin of my father. but they did a good job of exterminating the negroes with guns. that was the lesson i took away–negroes parading around with guns get exterminated.)

I don’t underestimate the movement. I do question some of those who would seek to capture it. Karl Denninger is a very bright guy. I listen to him. Same w\ith Charles Hugh Smith. Brilliant fellow. But to go on RT Televison just to….be on TV. Seems as corrupt to me as Sarah Palin’s daughter on Dancing with the Stars. Putin’s Russia is not about advancing the best interests of the US. If I was on RT I’d be happy to criticize Obama and Bernanke IF I could also criticize shooting journalists and seizing private property! Didn’t hear Denninger or Smith doing that. So…. who do they represent? Us,. themselves or a foreign power?

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 4

    @scott -

Karl has recently explained why he will talk to RT and anyway, this is not the first time. I watched that latest clip, and it did not occur to me that it was “television.” It’s the Internet. Borders can mean nothing at all. Besides, truth is truth. Right now, the damn Russians and Communmist Chinese are more “Capitalist” than are we here in the US.

You’ve mentioned Denninger and “capture” in the same breath; I’m not sure if you’re suggesting that Karl is attempting to do this or not. If you are suggesting it, then I don’t feel you know much about Karl Denninger.

If the MSM in the U.S. showed real footage of what was occurring, we wouldn’t need to go to Russia Today for REAL videos. Think about that for a second.

By the way. These videos are from that communist sympathizer AVALON. We were there. I don’t need someone telling me what I saw and heard with my own two eyes.

there is a lot of that going around. i would get strangers challenging my descriptions of what i’ve seen and heard downtown. but people who know me; co workers, friends who have a record of me being a fairly reasonable and reliable person. they have no problem denying what i have seen for myself.

as groucho said, “who are you gonna believe–me, or your own eyes?”

during the egyptian revolution, i had to watch al jazeera for news. well, we. including the frigging president of the usa. because that was the only or best source for actual news.

now, RT is serving that purpose. of course i question who the messenger is and what is their agenda. but that does not invalidate the message. especially when they are the only messenger actually doing the job.

You, going up there to show us the real deal, gives me hope. Unfortunately, I think that Anonymous is govt psy-ops (Right up there with Julian AssAngel-assange who hacked into the Pentagon but avoided jail time. Ponder that one for a min.) That’s what I was trying to say before you and your attack pack gang of rabid, old, stinky men trounced on me and called me ugly names without even knowing who I am or what I know.

“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”

Great posts on your trip to OWS protests in NYC!

A month ago there was about 100 protestors in Zuccotti. It takes TIME for a movement to grow. Or did 500,000 protesters just suddenly show up back in your day?

Also, the media back then was more honest than today. In fact, the media even sympathized with the protesters in many cases, especially the anti-war stuff.

You say you want the movement to focus on Bernanke. Just him specifically? Wow, that would be quite a narrow platform. Besides that, have you not seen the tons of “End the Fed” signs? Close enough, no?

I know you regular posters here hate blacks, but do you not remember The Million Man March on DC? The lowest number was estimated at 400,000 in one day.
