Crippled Cruise Ship Docking Today
March 1, 2012 | ISSUE 48•09
A crippled cruise ship owned by the Carnival Corporation was towed to the Seychelles after a fire broke out in the engine room and knocked out power, resulting in the second major accident for the company in the past six weeks. What do you think?

They must be gearing up for something really big for their 100th anniversary tribute to the sinking of the Titanic this April 15.

Hey, give them a break! What about the thousands of passengers they haven’t killed or scared the shit out of?

Hopefully the entertainer-hypnotist from the nightly 7:30 p.m. post-buffet shows was able to convince everyone they were still having a good time.

I think Admin is purposely deleting that little green onion thingy at the end of some of the articles he’s posting. He’s in a cranky mood today.

SSS,
I think you are right. This story smells like a rotten onion and I took a bite.

I have a serious question. The Titanic had about 8 decks, while the Costa Concordia has nearly twice the amount. This despite that the Titanic’s massive reciprocating steam engines and rows of boilers must have weighed quite a bit more than the latter’s diesels. Were the engineers who designed the Titanic, and other vessels of the era simply over-conservative or are contemporary cruise ships top heavy? I say this recognizing that had Captain Smith opened the watertight doors and allowed the Titanic to flood evenly, it would have capsized too prior to sinking. That leads to another question…were the Concordia’s watertight compartments compromised because of the power failure? How is it that a much smaller ship built in 1911 survived longer with 300′ of it’s length opened to the sea than a 2005 model with half that length of damage?

We’re scheduled on one of their ships in June from Perth to Singapore. At this rate we’ll have the whole ship to ourselves which is good because if it sinks we’ll definately have space on a lifeboat and won’t be concerned about canabilism if food gets low. I’m looking forward to this trip like I’m looking forward to a new asshole.
