I think that we are at the precipice of peak sports salaries. We have a failing economy, everyone is broke or they do not have the discretionary cash to attend sports events like in the past. Where the teams are going to get the money to pay those exorbident salaries is a mystery to me. You need steady revenue steams to accomplish that and with the consumer at the end of his rope, that’s not gonna happen.

Basketball player DeShawn Stevenson has come up with the answer and had a cash machine installed in his own kitchen, next to the toaster.
Stevenson, 31, who has earned more than $26 million so far in a 12-year playing career in the NBA, was so proud of his latest unique accessory that he posed for a photograph with it.
The 6ft 5 ins defensive player, who sports a large tattoo of Abraham Lincoln on his neck, is currently with New York team the Brooklyn Nets.
He previously played for teams in Utah, Orlando, Washington DC and Dallas. He was arrested last year for public intoxication in Texas.
It was not clear whether his free-standing cash machine will charge Stevenson and his friends a fee each time they use it.

In case you have not noticed, nearly every major stadium built for a major corporate team in almost any city, was at least partly, if not wholly , funded by the taxpayers…… without a peep of protest from idiot sports fans who happily pony up $75 or more for tickets, or from local businessmen who defend this rape of the taxpayers because sports presumably “bring money” to the city.
To WHOM do they bring money? As far as I can tell, the only beneficiaries are the giga-rich team owners and the retarded prima donna players. Sports teams employ few middle income workers, and most of the non-players they employ are low-wage stadium workers- the people who sell the concessions and clean the place up.
Right now, Rahm Immanuel is letting Chicago be shaken down for a reno of Wrigley Field for the benefit of the mega-rich Ricketts family, owners of the Cubs. After all, why shouldn’t these people get a $200 M gift from Chicago taxpayers, since the city also ponied up $300 M for the construction of Sox Park (known as U. S. Cellular Field) and I forget how much to destroy the appearance of Soldier’s Field. This tragic misuse of tax money has been repeated in every city in the country that is home to a major sports team.

i used to think the same a few years back, but i was wrong. it is unlikely to happen until our currency collapses.
the money in sports is almost entirely in the TV contracts. TVs are cheap, and i think people would sooner stop paying their mortgage than their cable bill.
sports revenue goes up every single year and will continue to do so we blow up, just like bread and circuses.
