I thought Obamacare was supposed to be great and helpful to Americans and businesses. Why would Obama’s biggest supporters in Unions and in the insurance industry need waivers from such a great plan? The organizations receiving waivers sure makes me scratch my head:
- United Federation of Teachers Fund – 351,000 enrollees
- NY District Council 37 Health & Security Plan – 303,164 enrollees
- CIGNA -265,000 enrollees
- Aetna – 209,423 enrollees
- Teamsters Local 237 Welfare Fund – 51,649 enrollees
- Chicago Local 25 SEIU – 31,000 enrollees
Peruse the complete lists at your leisure. Why is a law that is supposed to be awesome for you and me, not being enforced on unions and the health insurance companies that helped write the 2,700 page monstrosity? I’m sure there’s a good explanation. Obama wouldn’t lie to us about Obamacare. It certainly doesn’t include any taxes and it will certainly be budget neutral.
Labor unions primary recipients of Obamacare waivers
Labor unions continued to receive the overwhelming majority of waivers from the president’s health care reform law since the Obama administration tightened application rules last summer.
Documents released in a classic Friday afternoon news dump show that labor unions representing 543,812 workers received waivers from President Barack Obama‘s signature legislation since June 17, 2011.
By contrast, private employers with a total of 69,813 employees, many of whom work for small businesses, were granted waivers.
The Department of Health and Human Services revised the rules governing applications for health reform waivers June 17, 2011, amid a steady stream of controversial news reports, including The Daily Caller’s story that nearly 20 percent of last May’s waivers went to businesses in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s district in California.
The labor unions receiving waivers include those that are monitored under the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, and those that are not. The waivers granted since June 17 are valid until 2013, but recipients must make sure their employees understand the “limits of their coverage,” according to HHS documents.
HHS granted waivers on a year-by-year basis under its initial application process, but waivers granted after June 17 are valid for a maximum of two-and-a-half years. (RELATED: Full coverage of the health care law)
By and large, unions backed the health care overhaul, a law from which nearly a half million of their workers are now exempt.

It used to be that way, but in the 1940s FDR under the OPA (Office of Price Administration) froze prices and wages (but not ‘benefits’) and thus was born the conceppt of employer-furnished health insurance. The best health insurance would indeed be more like auto insurance – coverage for major incidents, but otherwise pay your way in cash; ‘twould be much cheaper. Imagine how much auto insurance would cost if it covered everything – like oil changes for a $3 co-pay.

The US Dollar will soon lose its status as the World Monetary Standard, because of Obama’s spendthrift policies and HUGE Government. The Treasury Department doesn’t care how much inflation is going to hit us because of the Trillions of dollars in unbacked currency they’ve printed. Obama and the treasury have removed very common necessity from the formula to measure inflation so it doesn’t look too bad. If you cannot see what’s happening, then you deserve what will happen if we don’t get him out of the White House and slam the Democratics in congress with a wake-up call by kicking their butts in November! The government already has control over the Auto Industry, the Banking system, The Treasury Department, and will have our Health System, as well. I agree with the vast majority of the comments made here and I would add that if Obamacare (the so-called “Affordable Care Act”) was so great for the rest of us “little people” then the President and members of Congress who voted for this waste of trees (where are the enviromentalists on the incredible number of trees that had to die to print this stuff out) would abandon their government health insurance plan and be the first to sign up for Obamacare. Of course they won’t because they (the new Aristocracy) know what’s best for us (the new peasants/commoners) and they deserve better healthcare whereas us little people, in the words of Marie Antoinette, “let them eat cake”. Has anyone noticed that we’re just about back where we were in 1776 yet? We had an arrogant King who thought he could do whatever he wanted to us and we would just have to suck it up and now we have another man in power (on our very shores no less) who thinks he is King in all but official title. Guess our Founding Fathers risked their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor for nothing huh? As for me, I will neve comply with Obamacare no matter what the penalties are..I would rather die from some horrible disease than purchase Obama’s socialized medicine (works so well in Europe than people from there come HERE for healthcare). Woe to the Republic.
