Johnny Carson had Carroll O’Connor on his show soon after the series debuted. Johnny didn’t even try to conceal his contempt for the actor. Even Johnny couldn’t separate the man from the role. Lucky for the kid my uncle called him an ambulance after teaching him a little respect for his elders.
