I don’t know what’s going on in his personal life, but checking into rehab the next day reeks of corporate handlers doing emergency “damage control.” Has American society become so politically correct that the lead singer for a punk rock band can’t make a statement and smash his guitar on stage without having to go for treatment afterwards? Are genuine displays of anger, frustration, and indignance no longer allowed? Green Day had their set cut from 45 minutes to 25 minutes so Usher could have more time to perform. Rock on, Billie Joe.

Sad. In days gone by, Armstrong might have been arrested for that profane-laden outburst. Here’s a photo of another guy, Jim Morrison, lead singer for the Doors, who had his share of on and off stage antics. He was arrested six times, including once in Las Vegas. Must be something in the water.

Yep, supposedly he did. Here’s a short account. Note the “two misdemeanors for public profanity” in the charges against Morrison.
Jim’s next arrest was on March 1, 1969 in Miami, Florida. Three days after performing at the Diner Key Auditorium, Jim was charged with a felony and five misdemeanors and a warrant was issued for his arrest on March 5, 1969. The felony was for lewd lascivious behavior, two misdemeanors for public profanity, two for public exposure and one for public drunkenness. Police said Jim exposed himself on stage although there is no evidence. The legal wrangling went on until the day he died.
