I don’t watch much network TV, but someone told me about this show and I watched it last night. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but I think the fact that a show like this has made it onto network TV says something about the mood of the country. It’s based 15 years after the lights go out in the United States. Big cities become uninhabitable. They are abandoned. People kill each other for food. Bullets are a rare commodity. There is no functioning government. This is not an unrealistic picture of our future. It is entirely possible if we continue on the same path. In previous Fourth Turnings the mood of the country was captured by novelists, painters and photographers. Since no one reads books in this country anymore, it seems TV and movies are where you see the mood captured. Shows like this one and movies like Hunger Games are a reflection of the dark days that await.
Revolution takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. Fifteen years earlier, an unknown phenomenon disabled all technology dependent on electricity on the planet, ranging from computers and electronics to car engines, jet engines, and batteries. People were forced to adapt to a world without functioning technology. Due to the collapse of government and public order, many areas are ruled by warlords and militias. The series focuses on the Matheson family, who possess a special device (resembling a flash drive) that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago, but also a possible way to reverse its effects. However, they must elude Sebastian Monroe the General and President of the Monroe Militia who wants to possess that power for himself.
Opening Introduction:
| “ | We lived in an electric world. We relied on it for everything. And then the power went out. Everything stopped working. We weren’t prepared. Fear and confusion led to panic. The lucky ones made it out of the cities. The government collapsed. Militias took over, controlling the food supply and stockpiling weapons. We still don’t know why the power went out. But we’re hopeful someone will come and light the way. | ” |

Admin, you are exactly right about social mood showing through in this show, however preposterous the premise behind the story.

I’ve been watching it. It is ok, no Lost, no Walking Dead, but not bad. And thought provoking.
I want to see what happens, but won’t care if I don’t.
I hope the sheeple can use it to open their eyes – but I know most won’t – this future is too far outside normal as to render it a fairy tale to most non-thinkers.
Maybe the sheer volume of mounting evidence will save a few more. I hope so.

Ever watch Jerico? That was fairly realistic. A couple of books Lights Out and One Second Later were also pretty good.
This show is on too late for me. 10:00 p.m. I’m into my fourth bourbon by then. I’ll have to wait for it to come on Netflix, if there’s power by then.

I haven’t watched it. And I won’t watch it, because I won’t allow myself to be forced watching it every week to keep up with the predictable storyline.
However, I decided to watch the trailer ….. link below;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwfCRAtkYEI
I has just three questions. If this takes place 15 years “after the lights went out” then;
1) Why do their clothes look brand new or hardly worn?
2) Why do they ALL look so well-fed?
3) Why do they all look like they just got a haircut and/or stepped out of a beauty salon?
Answer: ’tis all Hollywood bullshit. All they are doing is grooming the masses for an Obama (or, whomever) New World Order to take effect BEFORE this shit comes to pass. You are being manipulated, folks.

Great concept, crappy execution.
No way is ANYBODY in an electricity free future going to have such pretty teeth, clothes or hair. And are so clean. No fucking way. They must have found a store of Revlon in a time capsule, heh. And how the heck are they getting water into their nice little suburban farms without electric pumps???
There should be mountains of skeletons from the 90% die off that would happen after the lights go off.
I am also pissed off that the “bad” guys are the militias, ie the guys with the guns.
Also, yeah right, the girl with the bow is such a Hunger Games rip off.
Still, if it gets people thinking as to how fragile our power grids are, then fine.
There is a new movie in development, dragonday.com, which sounds great. The premise is that the embedded Chinese made computer chips unleash a virus in the event of the US default on their debt, taking down the entire grid and crashing America, basically. The US govt goes VIchy and cooperates with the Chinese military in basically looting America to pay China back. It looks pretty nitty gritty, at least in the trailer. Check it out.

The Chinese are ALREADY doing that with their cheap ass clothes, tools, drywall, toothpaste, substandard steel, cement, dog food …. ALL of which have been in the news. So, yeah, that movie sounds rather realistic.

@Stuck: You know, I never looked at it like that but it is really true.
We Amerikans have to buy the crappy Chinese stuff in the first place, since we don’t make it ourselves anymore, with money we have to BORROW from the Chinese.
Then we have to buy the same shit over and over again cuz of planned obsolescence, with more and more money we have to BORROW, again, from the Chicoms.
Then, at the end of the day, all that shit goes kablooey and we still owe the Chinese tons of money.
Yeah, Dragon Day is here.

David says:
If this program was on ABC, CBS, or NBC then what it amounts to is propaganda in the truest sense of the work. Goebbels would be proud. He would be in his grave smiling and thinking to himself, “At least the government is readying the public for what is coming. Yes, we had some great propaganda films over here in Germany when I was running the show but this new program is good. Although the general public won’t make heads or tails of it and probably never even give it a second thought at least some will ask a few questions. Not enough to really matter though. And when the big hammer falls then we can say ‘you should have prepared’ and bypass the guilt trip. By that time all the debt-slaves will be wrapped up and then the country will give them a new solution that has already been prepared. They will like this new money system, a piece of good work. America is getting good at the propaganda business. They must be taking lessons from somebody. Ha, ha.”

Hope & Stuck, it is unlikely that the Chinese would be in a position to force America to do anything. Our submarines are more advanced than theirs, our missiles are more powerful than theirs, our biochemical labs are more advanced than theirs, our software is more advanced than theirs, etc., etc., etc. We have formed an unbalnced impression because of all the attempted hacking, dirty tricks, etc. that China has perpetrated out of desperation. I suspect the US military could hack China to its knees one way or the other…
Yes, America is fucked, doomed, etc. But China could well be in worse shape. It is very possible that there will be a separate Mandarin China and a separate Catonise China in the future, at a bare minimum. And each could wind up far behind the western world.

I thought the show was hokey. The key to the show is “why did the lights go out?”. My guess would be that a group of people believed that if the industrial civilization were to continue, we would extinct ourselves by destroying the very environment we depend on. Its exactly what we are doing, but I doubt the producer would play it out that way.

for those that ditched cable/satellite tv i highly recommend a roku device. netflix, amazon prime, lots of free old movies and tv shows..i do mean old…like roy rogers old, even the original lone ranger series on the western channel. i even found a channel that plays the ancient mystery theater shows you used to hear on the am dial of a radio(remember those), all crackly and everything. awesome investment if you have at least a dsl speed connection…I rock a whopping 1.5MB here in the sticks of missouri, works fine.

Mad Max the road warrior will remain the most ahead of its time movie forever.
Made in the 70″, and soon in a theater near you.
All the recent shits are propaganda to make you accept your fate.
Exept V for Vandetta that clearly shows that solutions come from the end of a barrel when you’ve been stripped from your last basical rights. Be prepared to die for your ideas.
Still better than dying in a phony war just for show…

Our food supply is Walking Dead.
Fossil Fuels are Walking Dead.
The Entire US are Walking Dead.

TV isn’t about the show content. It’s about mass hypnosis, pure and simple. Shows like the ones you describe are designed to suck in folks like us, so they can sell us something. A hamburger, a cold beer…a candidate for President.
Do yourself a big favor and turn off your set. Make an EDAP. Buy some solar PV’s now, while they’re relatively cheap.

Hubby had it on and I “watched” maybe 5 mins. from the kitchen.
The characters I saw were too pretty and well-groomed for it to be believable to me. Maybe if it had been 1 year after the grid went down, but 15 yrs? Please.
Yet another reminder why I don’t watch tv.

Really? You must be joking. Revolution and Hunger Games are absolute garbage. Apocalypse-lite for the easily entertained, brain-dead zombies you are always railing against. They are no more a reflection on the reality of what’s coming than a Bugs Bunny cartoon is a realistic representation of the life of a rabbit.

Apocalyptic movies always make good entertainment. It is intriguing to think about what is presented in the movie, but Revolution’s purpose is to sell theater tickets, DVDs and nothing else. The film’s only benefit is getting people to think about the unthinkable, even if only for a few minutes or hours.
Interesting comments.
