QUOTES OF THE DAY

“And I apologize to all of you who are the same age as my grandchildren. And many of you reading this are the same age as my grandchildren. They, like you, are being royally shafted and lied to by our Baby Boomer corporations and government.”  ―    Kurt Vonnegut,    A Man Without a Country

“Do you think we enjoy hearing about your brand-new million-dollar home when we can barely afford to eat Kraft Dinner sandwiches in our own grimy little shoe boxes and we’re pushing thirty? A home you won in a genetic lottery, I might add, sheerly by dint of your having been born at the right time in history? You’d last about ten minutes if you were my age these days.”  ―    Douglas Coupland,    Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture

“For me the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people. As far as my experience goes, they are also no better than other human groups … I cannot see anything ‘chosen’ about them.”

    -Albert Einstein

Kurt Vonnegut was on of the writers who had a big influence on me when I was really young. It bothers me to know that he died an angry, pessimistic man.

I read that last book of his that you’re quoting…. I can’t argue with his take on things…but the decision to be hopeless is something that I believe is a personal decision.

The baby boomer generation will adapt and summit to any goverment you yuths develop. It is really us Christians who will not. That is who you will eventually blame for all your problems! A dictator has to vilify someone. History seems to repeat itself.

  6. flash says:

Kurt was American POW held in Dresden when the RAFand AICs greatest generation of genocdial maniacs decided to murder several hundred thousand civilians.
My father-in-law of German ancestry participated in that bombing and never forgave himself for it..

” On about February 14th the Americans came over, followed by the R.A.F. their combined labors killed 250,000 people in twenty-four hours and destroyed all of Dresden — possibly the world’s most beautiful city. But not me.

After that we were put to work carrying corpses from Air-Raid shelters; women, children, old men; dead from concussion, fire or suffocation. Civilians cursed us and threw rocks as we carried bodies to huge funeral pyres in the city.” Kurt Vonnegut

Yes. it was Kurt V. who educated me about Dresden. He wrote about it over and over. It was the seminal event of his lifetime.

I like the Einstein quote. I feel much the same about Christians as he did about Jews.

I ‘ll see your Einstein and raise ya’ three Newton’s.

The Christian ministry is the worst of all trades, but the best of all professions.

    – Sir Isaac Newton

‘This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent Being. . . . This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of his dominion he is wont to be called “Lord God” παντοκρατωρ [pantokratòr], or “Universal Ruler”. . . . The Supreme God is a Being eternal, infinite, absolutely perfect.’2

    – Sir Isaac Newton

‘Opposition to godliness is atheism in profession and idolatry in practice. Atheism is so senseless and odious to mankind that it never had many professors.’3

    – Sir Isaac Newton

  13. Big Cat says:

Einstein was a man who cheated on his wife and then abandoned his wife and children for his mistress. And of course, once he married his mistress he was forced to find another one. Anybody who lives like that will refuse to believe in God. Einstein was a brilliant scientist but anyone who denies that God exists is ultimately a fool. He’s no longer an atheist because there are no atheists in hell.
